Wish they would just work out a cost and let us married guys get on the 30 baht plan, of course it would cost much more and should include more. Make it a government plan. This would increase funding for public hospitals. Wait, i forgot its Thailand sorry for wasting your time. 555555

Well at least they put something out. I am doing my next extension of stay on Tuesday, i have my embassy letter for this year, i will talk to them and see what they want me to do next year. Transferring every month is easy enough i guess, i hate to pull out 15K USD out of one of my 401's if i don't need to. I get 3500 from the VA every month, i never will understand why the Embassy can't log into the VA payment system or SSI for that matter and say yes this person is getting this. Either way i will figure it out. Wanted to thank UD Joe for taking the time to provide us with all this information. Happy hour approaches in Issan, have a great day everyone.

Its difficult to know, i agree with Joe we need to wait and see what Thai immigration says, my best bet they will say nothing, and we will be left with trying to figure it out. I will be going to get my letter shortly from the US Embassy and if that does not work in January, i don't know. I will bring back up including statements from DFAS and the VA, a copy of my US bank statement for the past year. HOping one of them works. If not, then the option would be to go to Laos and get a new visa and start the 90 day clock by depositing funds every month in excess of the 65k.
Now, my situational plan is this, i will go open a bangkok bank account and change my direct deposit from VA over to Bangkok bank of NY. VA does IACH so i won't get the money till like the 4th every month but that's okay, i no longer will require the US Embassy to do anything connected with my visa. As long as this years Embassy letter works, next year i won't have to even worry about it. Just go to the bank and get what ever immigration wants.

Moderators please close this thread, i was misled by the embassy staff, i don't want bad information out there. My apologies.
-
Yep its true i just got the email. Taking the email over to immigration here shortly to see what they want to do. I am sorry i was lied too. See post The embassy lied to me. For the entire letter. Man, my battle buddy is pissed they lied to him. Gonna be some bad blood at the embassy for a while.
-
Well I just called my JUSMAG contact back and asked him why he would bullshit this guy. He is pissed, but facts are facts. Sorry lads, i got bad information, i take full responsibility for spreading bad information. I apologize to all.

10:13 AM (4 minutes ago)toU.S. Mission in Thailand to Cease Providing Income Affidavit
October 26, 2018
Bangkok, THAILAND
As of January 1, 2019, the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok and the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai will cease to provide the income affidavit for the purpose of applying for Thai retirement and family visas and will not notarize previous versions of the income affidavit. The Royal Thai Government requires actual verification of income to certify visa applicants meet financial requirements for long-stay visas. The U.S. government cannot provide this verification and will no longer issue the affidavits.
Please consult the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, D.C. and Royal Thai Immigration Bureau websites for information on how to meet the requirements for a Thai retirement visa or extension.

Don't apologize to me, I know what immigration told me and what the embassy has said. The rest of all this is simply fluff. I make twice as much as i am required to in order to stay here, i will find a way no worries there. Life is a Leo, drink it up.

It comes into my USA account, some gets transferred to Bangkok Bank some comes out of the ATM as i use NFCU so all the fee's are returned to me on the 20th of every month. That may be the only change i will make is to start transferring at least 90,000 Thai Baht to my wife's account at Bangkok Bank every month, rather than just transferring 40 or 50 K a month and then pulling the rest out 20K at a time from the ATM.

Well UbonJoe, i just spoke with a long time battle buddy at JUSMAG, he called over to the ACS spoke to the Person in Charge and was told NO CHANGES ARE COMING, CEASE THE RUMOR MILL. They will continue to issue the letters. Buddy says its a cash cow for the US Embassy, no way they are taking away the cash cow. Its an integral part of the finances here in BKK.

Not to mention the 15K a month in health insurance we now pay to make sure everyone in the family is taken care of.
-
The issue is i don't have 800K to pop into a Thai bank i have to use the monthly income. Three kids, private schools, you can see how my 130K a month gets eaten up pretty quickly.
-
I have no problem proving my income, i can walk right over to JUSMAG and get my proof of income, in fact i am sure i can get someone over there to send it directly to the ACS if need be. I just called a friend at JUSMAG, he called over there to the ACS to people he knows, they basically told him, Thai visa does not make the rules and I should go drink a beer and relax.

A little Zebra eh, let me guess its a British Zebra.......... ROFL......

I am going with what my EMBASSY has told me on the phone and what immigration told me in person. I am 2 for 2 same facts. The US Embassy told me THIS WEEK that i am fine, no changes are coming, stop the rumor mill already.
-
I went to do my last 90 day report a few days ago, this time i took the wife with me as i have been reading on this forum of changes coming for people like me who use their VA pension (130,000 TBH per month) for the income requirement as part of my yearly extension to stay based upon marriage to a Thai National.
She stated the following:
NO CHANGES FOR US CITIZENS NOR HAS THE THAI GOVERNMENT ASKED FOR ANY CHANGES TO BE MADE
GO TO YOUR EMBASSY GET ME THE SAME LETTER AS YOU HAVE DONE FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS AND YOU WILL BE FINE
NO CHANGES ARE IN THE WORKS
SHE MADE 2 PHONE CALLS TO BANGKOK TO CHECK
IF ANY FUTURE CHANGES ARE MADE, THE THAI IMMIGRATION OFFICE WILL PUBLISH THEM LEAVING PLENTY OF TIME FOR PEOPLE IN MY SITUATION TO ADHERE TO THE NEW RULES.
STOP LISTENING TO THE RUMOR MILL ON FARANG INTERNET, ONLY THAI IMMIGRATION KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING
So i will go down just after the first of January like i always do, get my income letter and take it to immigration with the rest of the package that just require me to change the dates and press print.

Navy fed told me that they receive IAT format ACH's but have no ability to send them nor are they planning to in the future. Back to the ATM I guess or SWIFT transfers.

They came to visit me at our baan a while back. Two guys, asked for my passport, took a photo of me and the wife, spoke to several neighbors (all relatives) thanked us and left. Really nothing to worry about. Took about 10 minutes.

9 minutes ago, Berkshire said:If I understand the OP correctly, he's saying that the "Thailand experience" is largely about the bargirl bar scene. While I disagree with that premise, I will say that he's probably right about the slow demise of that industry. Some are saddened by that, others celebrate it. I'd say I'm in the latter camp.
No, it was a observation through the eyes of those tourists. I live up North, farming Pigs and making bacon, hams, sausages is my Thailand experience. I could live anywhere in Thailand or elsewhere, but i prefer rural life, simple life.

Has customer service gone down hill? Do you feel the smart phones have killed the bar scene in Pattaya or Bangkok? Do the girls now care more about their phones then the customers.
Reason i am interested is the wife and I went down to fun town earlier this month to get some shopping done and let me have my farang food extravaganza. We do this about every 6 months, as kids grow out of clothes. I was having a bourbon at a beer bar while the wife was getting her hair done, and i noticed some stark changes. Three guys were asked to come into the beer bar so they did, soon as they ordered a beer the girls all scattered, none of them would even come over to them when called. I felt kind of sad for the tourists and said you should just beat feet and go somewhere else. I didn't know where to send them, but down Soi 7 they went.
All the girls were just on the phone, non stop. I physically had to get up and go over to them to get my bin.
I think the internet has ruined it.
Thoughts on this matter from the gallery.

Why 800k, Why not 80k?

I don't even think anyone in Thailand cares if i spend 1.2 million Thai baht a year or not. But I do.... They just make it up as they go along lads. All we can do is ride the wave or simply jump off our board and call for a jet ski out of here.
