New shop just opened up. Opposite the Siam Commercial bank. Directions from Bamboo bar are take the road from Bamboo as if you were going towards the bus station end of town. Siam Commercial is the purple colourde bank on the left as you go along that road. Its almost dead opposite. Its at its very early days and doesnt look much yet. Has the bread etc on display in the window and the inside has a few tables and chairs. I believe the guy used to have a stall in the night market area.
I got a loaf of white bread , very fresh and an apple and blueberry pie and apple pie from him. Very nice. His missus was saying he is doing steak and kidney pie tommorrow so I will have to take another look.

This place has opened recently. www.burirambeach.com
Its on the main road going out of Buri Ram. Go past the Big C works then keep going til you get to the Chevrolet dealership. Turn left there. Has a big bouncy castle up front and the swimming areas out back. Good fun for the kids.

Keep it up mate. Is good to hear news/weather from home when there are some of us away working in pretty horrible places. Am only away for 6 weeks at a time but coms with the missus is hard as the phones are so bad where I work.
It doesnt take much to realise why so many of us live here. Wife from the area and husband works away. Wife has family around when husband away = happy wife. Plus its a nice quiet area to relax in.

Thanks for the replies.
Am really after someone to show her how to operate a car if you know what I mean. I have tried a few times but when she gets a bit flustered the language problem comes in and its hard.
Khun Pad sounds good. Just what she needs. Also easier that she will be taught by another woman.

Does anyone know of any sort of driving school in the Buri Ram area. Have not seen anything in my time here but maybe somebody has.
Thanks

The official Tamiya shop is on RCA (Royal City Avenue) I think its off Petburi at the Rama 9 end. Ask a taxi to take you to RCA. When you get on to RCA road, the shop areas are in lettered bloacks, ABCD etc. The Tamiya shop is in Block B i think. If you are heading towards the Rama 9 end of RCA, its on the right. Quite visible from a taxi. Look for the Tamiya star. Sorry for being hazy with the directions but when I go there I know where it is.
It has loads of RC stuff from cars to tanks to choppers and all the usual plastic kits. No other branded stuff sold there though.

Thanks
Will have to take the translator with me next time. Will be easier than trying to muddle through with my bad Thai.

Has any one been shooting at the Buri Ram golf club. I went for a look after a game of golf, found the ranges but couldnt make myself understood that I wanted to shoot. I think the soldier was saying no gun.
Thanks all

Air Asia does some very cheap deals to Singapore if you book up in advance. Hotel 81 chain has very cheap hotel rooms. Had no problem when I did my multi o although it was just before the show 400k came in. Have spoken with people who did it after and they had no problem. Be aware that Air Asia runs the same plane back and forth all day so delays add up. My late evening flight had a 3 hour delay on it. Cheap they may be but 3 hours extra in the airport. Bummer.

Get to the embassy early and have a word with the gate guard. he will give you an application form. There is a starbucks opposite and up the road a bit. Fill it out there. Saves the hassle of getting it on the way into the embassy.

3.0 g Vigo Automatic (black of course)
Mine nearly 2 years old. Hasnt missed a beat. Excellent value for money. Regularly do the Issan Bangkok run and its very comfortable. Took my 60 year old UK Mum from Issan to Koh Chang in the back seat and she said it was very comfortable. Can do 800km on a tank of diesel. Could do more but I dont want to run it that low. Have had 160km with lots of power left. Done a small amount of offroad in it. No probs. Was advised to run it in 4WD every 2000kms or so. Regularly take 13 members of family out for dinner in it. Hardly affects the performance.
Would recommend it for anyone

My one is so quick, I have never noticed the glow plug symbol. I start it like a petrol engine car. Key in and turn. Starts perfect every time.
Supermanny, take yours back to the dealer. Thats not normal.

Years ago I took my 6 year old Peugeot to a main dealer to have an intermittant engine management problem looked at. The car was about 3000 pounds sterling to buy 2nd hand. The cost of just diagnosing the fault was astronomical. Nowhere else had the diagnostic machine other than a main dealer. Result was wait til the fault cleared and then sell it direct to a dealer. I was leaving the UK at the time so I just wanted rid of it.
I know have a 1 1/2 year old Vigo. Main dealer prices are very very cheap so I wouldnt think of taking it to a non main dealer to have work done, so the car will go on being serviced by Toyota.
In the UK, servicing/repairs etc gets so expensive, it is cheaper just to buy another car, meaning a higher turn over and lower prices. Here there are less older cars anyway, much cheaper servicing so they stay more expensive.
Take the plunge and buy new and then change every 3 years. After the first outlay its pretty good value for money. You buy a car in UK, drive it off the forecourt and loose 20% straight away. More if its a high end model. Thats not good value

Bovril is a victim of the BSE problems and no longer manufactured as it is made from actual meat extract.
You've just ruined my day - do you mean that I cannot find it ANYWHERE?
What's the point in going on - I'll tie my hands behind my back. tape a plastic bag over my head and jump off my first floor balcony.
Only a cup of hot Bovril will revive me sufficiently to face the rest of the day.
(Or a couple of large draft Chang)
(But I'm in Saudi at the moment - another five weeks before I get home - so watch out all you lazy TCNs - I'm not happy!!!!!)
Fear not dear sir!
Have done some time in the UK recently and Bovril is still there. I brought a large pot back with me. Very nice on a slice of hot toast.

I work in Nigeria and have been approached over the years with almost all the scams there are. Sadly now I dont believe anyone and am a real cynical bastard.
This website really made my day. Some of the reverse scams are quite long winded but very good.
www.ebolamonkeyman.com
For all those that have fallen for a scam, have a look and enjoy.

Thanks Conan
Will get on to them. have seen some designs on the net so when i get the bricks, I will have a bash at making one.

I want to build a brick BBQ. Does anyone know where to get heat resistant bricks. Guess you need them to do this.
Thanks

Thanks guys.
I guess the job for the missus is out the window. Sounds like a lot of hassle.
Good news on the UK embassy. That has put my mind at ease a bit.
Next problem will be how long it takes to process the extension application. My vise runs out on the 8th jan but I have to leave for work on 24th December. Will 2 weeks be enough to process it?
-
Good point about paying her for a while before applying. Mine is due in Jan so I guess not enough time. I am still going to try the UK embassy to get a letter confirming my income but as it is a work related salary, not a pension, I dont know if they will do it.
Its so much bloody hassle this, seeing as I more than qualify for the rules. If that doesnt work then I guess its off to Singapore again.

Hi all
In one of the other topics, it was mentioned that to qualify for the 40 k a month for a visa extension, it is possible to pay ones wife so she can pay the tax and get the appropriate papers to show the immigration.
Does anyone have experience of trying this. Can you pay the wife for the post of,say, housekeeper or cleaner/cook etc. I know 40k a month would be well above the norm for this kind of work, but if it gets round the problem, why not.
What paperwork is needed to pay the tax and do you need to register for it.
Any help on this would be gratefully recieved. I am under 50 and dont have the grandfather rights on the 400k option. Dont really want to be going to Singapore once a year.
Thanks

Thanks to all who have posted replies. Will be down in Jomtien in a few weeks and will check out all these places.

Does anyone know if the embassies will do letter confirming income from a regular job. I work 6 weeks on 6 weeks off in Wesy Africa and have a monthly salary way abouve 40k a month.
There is a post here about paying your wife a salary and get tax paid that way. What job can that be for and how does one go about doing it.
Thanks
