  1. I Agree on MHS loop, road in poor condition on a lot of corners, way too much traffic, lunatic silver vans cutting the corners, and those switchbacks lose their novelty after the first 30 or so, not much fun.

Honestly, go to Nan, best roads in Thailand, very little traffic. They built the roads along the tops of the hill ridges and then deforested it so you can see several bends in front to see if traffic is coming so you can get the hammer down.

Have a read of my trip report on Nan below.

Dude, quit talking about Nan. Its supposed to be a secret. Shhhhhh.

    oooops, I'll get me coat....

  2. I have driven 2 different everests from 2 different dealers on test drive. Both had dash cams mounted up by the rear view mirror. From the drivers seat they were not visible. The wiring went up into the roof trim. I am asking the wife to find out where they are fitted as I want one but never wanted the dangling wires to a power socket. Makes me think can they fit a rear facing one and hide the wiring too.

  4. IMHO

Question for you please. I couldn't get an answer due to my ineptitude at speaking Thai. When putting the gear into S, does it just let you shift the gears yourself or does it change the gear gear change points. My Focus does this, when in S it holds the gear longer, changes gear quicker, livens the car up. I had a test drive of a 2.2 today but not long enough to get a feel of the gearbox.

Damn it drives nice though, so quiet inside, really really quiet. Took a 3.2 ranger out after to see the powe difference.

Can't wait for my T+ in October.

    Thanks

  5. I have a Shark Evoline helmet. Its very good.

I found a Shark dealer on the ground floor of MBK yesterday. Its an expat running the shop and its near one of the escalator blocks. He has a display with the crazy type of helmets, predator look etc but has proper helmets inside and said he can get any Shark helmet as he is authorized importer. I didn't ask price.

www.ridersdna.com is the address on his card. Also has facebook under same name.

    Hope that's a help.

  6. Whilst there I took the 3.2 Wildtrack ranger for a test just to feel the engine. Very nice.

The new Everest and Ranger have complete new ECUs and engine calibration. If you thought the "old" 3.2 Ranger was nice you will love the "new" version.

It was the brand new model Wildtrack I test drove and yes it was very nice.If I was looking for a pickup, look no further.

I had tested the 2.2 model about 6 months ago. It was the test drive model in buri ram. They had it all done up in the buri ram united colours with huge off road tires. So as I drive off down the road its tracking all over the road and making that horrible whumwhumwhum noise. I look at the rep and say what is wrong. He laughs and says we put new tire. I couldn't quite get the logic, make your test drive car look nice but drive and sound terrible. Maybe that does sum up Thai mentality though......

  7. So drum brakes in the back

Still has those horrible fold up chairs that block the rear quarter windows.

    No electric passenger chair

    No blind spot system

    No cross traffic system

No reversing sensor or parking sensors, hard to believe but that's what the blurb says.

Looks like Toyota really pushed the boat out with this new model. Hope all those nasty hard plastics are gone too.

  8. I have been to Ford Korat today for a service on our Focus. Whilst there I got the wife to confirm our order for the Titanium + Everest in red. They showed me the confirmation on line from Ford Thailand with the wife's name and said again, beginning of October, please don't worry, is not like Ranger 1st time. Wife also had a call from Ford HQ confirming our order so it looks like it will be there on the predicted time. The test drive ones are arriving at the end of July so I will be back early August for a drive. The sales guy said it would be a titanium + as the test drive model.

Whilst there I took the 3.2 Wildtrack ranger for a test just to feel the engine. Very nice. Much nicer inside than the Revo and doesn't have that ugly stick on tablet. Goes very well too, gave it the beans several times on the test.

Showroom also had 3.2 new shape Ranger wildtracks inside so it looks like the production problems are getting sorted.

Did some comparisons, Everest to the Fortuner, no rear disc brakes on the Tuna, still has those horrible fold up rear seats so the back quarterlight windows get blocked. Looks like the Everest is ahead in safety features also. Not surprising as it was designed for the Australian market. Guess Toyota Thailand doesn't worry so much about the Thais.

I think the only thing the Tuna has which Everest does not is push button start. Cant say I like it on the Focus, am forever leaving the key fob in the car when I get out. A key in an ignition is better IMHO.
