Came home from work to find off again in Maenam, didn't come back on until 8:30 pm. Seems to be a daily occurrence at the moment!:-(
-
Had a look today in Tesco Lotus Chaweng shop that was suggested.
180 Baht for passport photos and a variation of other photo requirements was also listed on the wall inside the shop, my new passport photo's (after the photoshop treatment) no longer resemble me, I've never looked so good, I'll be cancelling that face-lift appointment pronto.
Many thanks
Now a truly Handsum Man
Just make sure the photoshop treatment is not too obvious or overdone! My photos from that shop were rejected because of that when I renewed my passport and I was asked to send again.

I think the British Embassy in Bangkok will only issue an emergency passport if you have an urgent need to travel - you have to provide proof of this.

Still no power in Maenam area around Soi 4 area although ring road area is on! We did not get our 2 hour ration expected midnight til 2 am so no electric since yesterday morning!
-
chocolate hob nobs and digestives in big c and a reasonable price.
Are they back in stock now? I checked the other day... "no have" McVities bickies Big C a lot cheaper than Tesco on McVities ... and more types plain and milk chocolate!!!...not seen them in Tesco . .... (when either store has them) usually slow to re-stock You have to catch em fast.. or they're gone!!!
Missed the Bounty bars in Tesco today....
There was mention in the food forum a few weeks ago, that Cadbury's was back in Thailand.... slooooow on getting to Samui!!!
Both Hob Nobs and Chocolate Digestives (Milk & Plain) were in stock yesterday at Big C.
Big C had Bounty, Lion Bars, Milky Way and Rolo a few weeks ago but no more in stock since early November.

Just back my village cableguy, says can put together with true dish but then can not see those grammy sportchannels. So ASN, Eurosport etc only on c-band dish? That make sense as true have this truelife+ box and Eurosport is on channellist only with biggest black c-band dish.
I have it connected to IPM Ku band dish and all channels are on.
Call GMM call center (02 841 8888) to unlock channels. At the voice prompt, choose/dial 1, then punch in the 16 digit STB card no. found under menu/Application/STB info. By the way, i hope you already figured out the passcode to enter menu mode is 0000.
After 10-15 mins, all channels will be active.
Enjoy.
Set up the box today and working fine apart from the locked channels - will follow BV's helpful advice above tomorrow, but.........how to change the menu to English or is this not an option?
To change menu to English:
Press Menu on remote and punch in 0000 (passcode).
Assuming that menu is in Thai,
Scroll down to 4th item (or 2nd item from bottom) and press OK
Press on 3rd item and press OK
Press on 3rd item and press OK
Scroll down to 3rd item below 0% and press < or > on remote and press OK.
Language is set to English.
Thanks BV! Got menu changed with your much appreciated help.
Now just need to get through to GMM call centre to register - constantly engaged!!!!

Is anyone actually using this Thai Expat TV service mentioned earlier in this thread by what appeared to be people trying to promote this service?
Having checked the website out it appears to be a valid IPTV streaming solution with decent UK content and a fairly low monthly subscription but does it actually work/ is it legal?
I'm fed up paying Truevisions through the nose for their "services"; what sort of company hands out HD PVRs with no built in PVR and naff all HD content?! Then makes you shell out extra monthly fees to record once you've purchased your own HDD... that's right, they expect you to pay monthly fees for the privilege of recording content to your own HDD!!!
Extra monthly fees for HD... 3x flipping channels, sports and HBO content already exist in SD and the 3rd channel is some sort of ridiculous parody of TV... are you joking?
It's about time someone offered a suitable alternative to ex pats in Thailand, is Thai Expat TV a potential solution? Only real experiences please.
Signed up for the free trial yesterday and been using it on and off for last 24 hours.
Not 100% stable - occasional buffering, pixelation and audio distortion. Using 3BB 5MB line.
Presume this will deteriorate further if multiple users online at same time, eg during Euros???

I am pleased to say Foxy has won a reprieve. Our pleas to the hotel have been heard and she is back on a trial period! Thanks to the hotel for their understanding.
Perhaps someone could do the dog a favour by NOT LETTING HER RUN OUT AT BIKES because she'll end up getting an innocent motorcyclist killed. i know she's a nice dog but i can say in all honesty that she nearly had me off my bike once and its just not acceptable what she does. I'll add to that that i've lost count of how many people she's caused to have major wobbles by running onto the road.
So i ask the question..surely working there for so long you must have seen the danger she was causing? Why didn't you restrict her movement to make this situation safe?
Are you sure this is the same dog Carmine? Foxy lives on a dead end soi with no through traffic and has never run out at motorbikes until very recently and then only at one particular person on a bike.
I think the dog you refer to may be "Dead Dog" referred to in earlier posts who chases cars/motorbikes along the ring road near Boncafe/PTT - or used to - he has not been seen for the last week or so!

hi, thank you for caring for the poor puppy. if necessary the dog could stay at another vet animalclinic opposite bangkok airways. they are closed only one day afaik. any home found yet?
And a photo?
Thanks for the info Elfe. Pup needs crate confinement for a few more days and is improving day by day. Managing to provide this at the moment and received an offer of help from forum member Itsala so hopefully there will be a good outcome for this lovely pup.
Photo attached now that pup is fit enough

Any further news?
Puppy has amazingly survived and is making good progess. Unfortunately has to leave the vet clinic tomorrow as they cannot keep him there over Songkran. Still no luck finding the owner but will keep trying. Pup needs another 3 weeks of quiet, safe environment due to sustaining a skull fracture whch needs to heal.
Desperately looking for a solution - already have two boisterous dogs and no space to give him the seclusion he needs. If anyone can help please PM.

Found injured yesterday evening by the ring road - PTT - Boncafe area.
Well nourished, obviously has been looked after and wearing a collar. (Looks like a black lab or lab cross)
Please PM me if you have lost this puppy or know who it may belong to.
(Sorry no photo to post as yet).

Deworming any dog is doing it a favour. From the sound of your post, though, there may be something more radical wrong with him.

Blood parasites cause lethargy and general malaise. Worthwhile talking to a vet or Dog Rescue about giving a course of appropriate treatment - cheap and effective if started early enough. Treated the soi dog outside our office this way as impossible to take him to the vet. If it is blood parasites dog will get progressively more anaemic (pale gums a tell tale sign) and disease is ultimately fatal.

Soi Dog is very real and has even taken in many dogs rescued from the meat trade. A very worthy charity for those who want to help animals.

check out their website (google soi dog foundation - not sure if I'm allowed to post link). The documentary movie on their site is well worth watching and highlights the vital work they do.
-
There's a place in Bophut on the ring road near to Pizza Company and the Boat shop - kodak sign outside.

Have bought coriander seeds several times at Makro (they were in the Indian Spice section), however not been in stock the last few times I've looked.
There used to be a small store near Laem Din that sold Indian spices - don't know if it's still there - was along that road with the Chinese Temple just after where Kush used to be.

So is it a work permit requirement? I am being told it is. I called one hospital and they said it was a new work permit requirement. Another one said it was not.
As far as the police urine tests done in discos, they target Class I drugs only, not cannabis. The unfair thing about this is I know many expat tecaher strung out on Xanax that they buy illegally at pharmacies.
As per my post earlier it is definitely not a work permit requirement.
Definately a work permit requirement here in Surat Thani Provnce and has been since early last year.

I have an indoor-only cat. You'll find anything you need here in Thailand, including litter boxes and all kinds of litter (my cat likes the crystal type, but I've seen everything, from clumping litter to organic stuff).

My cat is now 16 and has always been an indoor cat (11 years in Hong Kong and then brought him to Thailand), The only thing I haven't found here are his favourite treats which I had to wean him off. Everything else readily available.

Is the ferry still running from Maenam to Thong Nai Pan?
Just started again this week.
-
I have used Hong Kong Post speedpost/ems in the past. Reasonable rates - if I remember correctly up to 20kgs was around 750 HKD. to Thailand.
May be worth checking out although their maximum insurance coverage was not great.
-
Glad that some of you have a good connection, but for new buyers - watch the coverage in your area.
It's a waste of space for me.
Anyone using TrueMove 3G in Maenam area around Soi 4/5? I'm looking for an alternative / back up to 3BB which is down quite frequently.
Staff at True say coverage everywhere apart from the interior of the island but from this thread it doesn't appear to be the case.
Is CAT-CDMA a better choice in Maenam?
Appreciate any info.

Suggest checking with the Labour Dept in the area she will be located re WP and Non-O visa before making a decision. The local office here (Surat Thani) have recently introduced a new policy and will only issue WP to Non-O visa holders if the visa is based on marriage to a Thai. Otherwise they insist on a Non-B visa before issuing a WP.
-
How would she get a 12 month extension? Her contract, which she signed this past September 12, is good for one year. What hoops must I jump through to get this visa? How easy would it be to get a new work permit with my dependence visa? Again thanks a million
L
It seems that there has been a recent rule change (at least with Surat Thani Labour Dept) that you cannot get a work permit if on a dependent extension unless the spouse is Thai. Interested to know if this is a national policy or just the local office being difficult as usual?

No caterwauling tonight..........peace and quiet all around.
Hopefully that's it, 5 nights is enough to endure or do they take a break and start again before the fair ends?

Try Central Dept store in Chaweng - first floor, they have a good selection of baby items and equipment
