  1. Many times late on longer haul flights, very often miserable service and an attitude less than customer friendly. They have awful vinegar cheap wine and only chang beer of which they seem to have only 8 cans (ok few) as they always immediately run out. I can count at least 4 times bags damaged in Samui by their ground handlers. Too boot they charge an extremely high fair. They are not my favourite carrier and yes i have complained.

  2. post-34946-1204360462_thumb.jpg

I was flying with Bangkok air in the past 4 month about 25 times & I just can say, NEVER AGAIN !!!

I will avoid to fly with Bangkok Airways in Future.

They are almost with 80 % of their Flights delate, between 1 to 5 hour (my own experience & others as well).

I dont understand, how they can be "ASIA'S BOUTIQUE AIRLINE" ?????

In one Flight, where the parts of food still on the Seat, in another Flight where the COCKROACHES running around.

Am not counting the Rude Flight-Customers...

my flight today was the worst of all flights before, the meal was so bad, i think, they really dont give good meal anymore.

in the mealbox, a bad smelling cheese pie, small piece of Fruit, which was really not fresh anymore, and the Question:

"you want Coffea OR Juice"... :o

Before, i get both, now i must ask for... :D

I made a Picture of the INFLIGHT MEAL OF >ASIA'S BOUTIQUE AIRLINE<

    such a shame...

and they have the most expensive flights in the Country, specially to Samui.

I am not willed, to let rip me off from Bangkok Airways anymore.

Now is Thai Airways flying to Samui, just fly with a real good Airline !

    Nice Flight...;-)

P.S. sorry for my english, its not my first & even not second Language...

    SamuiRep

Agree I would rather be ripped off by Thai but they have less flight options, so what to do..

  3. This is disturbing.

Friends of mine, a Swedish couple, was brutally robbed early Wednesday morning in Patong (Feb 27). They've been to Safari and went to a nearby ATM to take out some money. After the money was withdrawn, 2 Thai males approached them and asked them to hand over the cash. At first they refused, then another 5 Thai males joined in. One pulled up a shotgun and pointed it at the Swedish couple. Another guy pulled out a knife and held it close against the Swedish man's stomach.

The robbers got away with all the money, wallets and watches. Then they started to beat up the Swedish male. The couple panicked and started to run. Luckily they got away unharmed (other than a few bruises from the beating).

The Swedish couple called the Tourist Police (1155), but to no avail. Seemed liked the police did not understand the seriousness of the situation, or they simply did not understand English. The choice is yours.

This is the first time I ever heard of a stickup robbery in Patong after living in Phuket for 13 years. Except, of course, for a few katoeys ripping gold chains from each other and other minor stuff. I have pushed the couple to contact the media regarding this, I am not sure they want the hassle.

That just typifies how low its got and how often now this happens, its worse than wild west. Until they get control of these youths and guns, it will only get worse i fear as once they get away with it once tourists are seen as easy pickings for a gang like this. Plus of course there are plenty of Gangs.. and youths are impressed with such stories and will copy cat

  4. SIA regional arm eyes Singapore-Samui slot

Limit on number of flights major obstacle

    BOONSONG KOSITCHOTETHANA

SilkAir, the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, is planning to introduce scheduled flights between Singapore and Koh Samui in a move that would break the monopoly on the route by Bangkok Airways.

    http://www.bangkokpost.com/Business/26Feb2008_biz48.php

Competition should be good - guess my only worry is whether price competition will really occur - SilkAir's fares from Singapore to Phuket are eye-popping - couple of hundred Sing $ higher than flying SIN-BKK on their parent airline!!!

For some reason i cannot get this link to work, can you copy full article ?

    thanks

  5. How old are these young 'uns? Children five or six years old and under will have no memory of whatever they do so ultimately it makes no difference what they do (to them).

boy and girl each of 12 years and a 13 year old girl. not exactly babies. any ideas welcome.

Horseriding which they can go onto the beach which is quite good. Its about an hour trip, not to do mid day of course.

    Number = 08609203514

  6. Thanks for the info Soundman. I believe however that the poison was thrown onto our land. 2 dogs have died and three are sick. The three that are sick are always at the house and don't leave our land. The two that died are the strong type that run around with other local dogs. They would have been the ones who would be the first to see someone throw something ( perhaps poison meat ) and eat it. The others would get the leftovers.

This has happened in NonDinDaeng just on the edge of town. We have about 10R land. My English friend down the street had a dog poisoned last year that died.

Could a reward help find those responsible ?

Any hope if I gave the police 1000 baht to help find ?

Any ideas how to find these lowlifes ?

In a country where there a severe problems in all almost every layer of its society, do you think the police would even bother looking at your case? Despite this being a cruel and evil action, I sincerely doubt they would care.

The more you tell about the story, the more I think it is your neighbors. Having - 5 - dogs, 2 running loose with other local dogs, well - you are looking for problems. Get a friend from outside snoop around the area and chat with some locals who could hate you and your dogs so much, I guess they will brag if the right questions are asked.

Would 10 Rai of land not be enough for 5 dogs then , i beg to differ ?

  7. In my view its getting worse full stop from bangkok down, Pattaya , Phuket, Samui any major tourist center. Before was different in that to attack kill a foreigner was taken more seriously, now its seen as nothing at all. Agree many come down for a quick smash and grab but in general more and more crimes are commited by ever younger thai males with weapons. Believe the authorities never had much control but now far less and definately a "don't care less attitude". If people can come back so fast after the tsunami what's the loss of a few foreigners, same principal that no life guards in a place where tourism is so important. Would not cost much, but they dont care, after all you can just come back in next life.

  8. Obviously you are on Patong beach. Apparently the best thing to do with sae urchin 'stings' is to pee on it so I guess the lime was similar

    Seonai

I thought this was for jelly fish stings etc. I knw in Africa they put baby papaya on the wound and by next morning it had drawn out the spike and not much pain left either, which i thought was a usefull trick if you happen to be able to access baby papaya oif course...

  9. I guess you missed my point. Sure, locals eat squirrel, but when the local population was small the hunting was sustainable. It is the huge numbers of migrant workers constantly hunting that are wiping out wildlife. Yes, I understand they have to eat, yes I understand that many are paid a pittance, but you can't triple the population and not have an effect on everything. However, I am not the one who brought this issue up, I am merely the one pointing out that solely blaming locals for eating them all is probably not the right place to be pointing fingers.

guess you missed my point. i am not solely blaming locals or migrant workers.

  10. The local Samuians I work with are all partial to a bit of squirrel. Is it fair just to blame migrant workers? The Burmese and Isaan are so often used as an easy scape goat for pretty much any problems that you come across in these (and other parts of Thailand), just as migrants are all across the world. If it is in fact true then I think the bigger issue is what are the companies that provide such a low standard of living that these people are forced to hunt their own animals in the wild? I have heard so many horror stories from Burmese workers about their conditions here that I for one wouldn't blame them if they did!

Agree and it is not just migrant workers, have seen our neighbours happily eat , squirrels, snakes, frogs and just about anything else that crosses their path. Also noisy dogs that we have fed before which are great , have just disappeared over night apparently poisioned because they bark at night. Trees are torn down without a care, its all part of a wider problem, depending on which way you look at it. For myself personally I would like to preserve as much as possible.

  11. I think I have posted this before, but what is the deal with printing on such high quality stock for a broadsheet? The costs right there must floor any possible profits.

That comment definately makes sense. Do need at all to do this in my view. I still stick to my guns that the content is getting worse.Do not believe though they listen as seem running along their own track down and the drival continues. Sure a view good stories but fewer and further between. Maybe under some pressure..

  12. The results of the Monopoly, rip off wherever they can!

But same time hurting the tourist industry on Samui!

I wonder how lucrative this flight route is.

Got to be the biggest money spinner in the region!

Most profitable route would now be Singapore / Penang just over 10,000 baht return / Singapore KL same (but that has now finally budget carriers). Monopolised = rip off eitherways. Samui still a rip off and no wonder tourists go elsewhere, they are ripped off as soon as they arrive at the airport by taxis. Then bitten by dogs on the beach.. lol

  13. I have just had the pleasure of waiting to receive another edition of the Samui Express Paper on line.

    www.samuiexpress.net/?q=node/76

All I can say is what a total load of rubbish and wonder if any one else agrees. I have no idea what they think about what could be perceived as "interesting stories" about local news in samui. They seem to have lost the plot entirely with the current edition and believe that in general it has been a downward spiral of the papers contents.

Stories included that have hardly any connection with the Island and seem to drag on and on by some "wanna be" writer

  14. We are looking for a reputable and aggressive real estate company for land for sale in Koh Lanta.

Any recommendations would be welcome, plot is around 440 sq meters around 60 meters from beach.

We are not in a hurry to sell for stupid prices, any recommendations on how best to approach the sale is welcome as do not live on the island,.Have not been there for a couple of years, things used to be done by, "i know a man that can".Not sure if changed. pls PM for more details if necessary.

Hello I am just in the process of starting up a real estate company for Koh Lanta. I have the domains already and the websites will be up and running in a week or so. Office to follow shortly. Been working in real estate in Phuket for a while, but lived on Lanta before.

Dont know how these forum things work so hopefully you can send me the details, location etc etc for your land.

    Cheers

did u open up as had no contact or information from you ??

  15. Beamer / Beerguy .Would i be correct in the assumption that the people that have been alledgely ripped off are mostly living outside of Samui and have not persued any legal action or otherwise locally in Samui, (if this is worth it may i add).

    Oracle

Fact - I signed a sales and purchase contract to purchase a piece of paradise from thier 'claimed 5 star style' development

    - I payed installments according to the Contract (Which was stated to be handed over me in April 2005

    - Im still waiting for them to figure out when or if ever they can provide me with my dream little getaway in Samui !

But alas it is now 2008 !!

I bought on the faith that Alan Sadd was a man of his word ! Whatever has happened is down to poor management with little in the way of contigency plans when developing a project in somewhere like Thailand.

Many others like myself feel the frustation like Beerguy

  16. Of course its sad

But so are the many road fatalities, are they ALL going to get coverage?

This is about a boat capsizing and 22 dead with little or no word about it or interest, do not think there are many traffic accidents with 22 dead at one time that would not make the news. Its the principal here , not sure you got that..

  18. Thanks Gatorade.

Checked with our Lawyer , he said had heard nothing about it.

Apparently the people living about 200 meters behind in middle of a field have been given some papers, so will try to get a copy of these to see what it is. I did think they extended the run way at existing airport, so to me makes no sense to have two airports, but then again TIT. Point for me is i want to build a house and not keen onthat if it is going to be placed under a compulsary purchase order (if there is such a thing in thailand)??

Bit surprised not to see more comments to this posting from long time samui residents, or maybe thats just it no one has heard anything.

    Merry xmas all meantime

  19. I have heard before stories of a new airport being circulated before, but yesterday apparently some guys turned up at our property to do a survey of whole land and were asking the locals in surrounding area how much they paid for land stating that a new airport was planned and they were the official government surveyors (they were from Pattani actually??).

They said the airport was planned before to start in ten years but now it will be Three years and this land has been selected as above Nam Muang to Road new Taling Ngam. I would seek any info or comments if anyone knws anything about this or from where to get reliable information. Not really so keen on my little piece of paradise being bulldozed under a forced sale etc.

The new airport has had a refit but obviously cannot take larger plans so i just wonder here ??

Also could be some developer maybe trying to pass themselves off as official to get the local villagers to sell up...
