They wanted a Thai ID number... I gave them one.

Colour me bad if that helps with your erectile dysfunction, I dont give a <deleted> either way.

    Let' see, this was posted:

Same here in Thailand we had to register our Sims  a couple Yrs with our ID (Passport) at the providers Shop AIS .

That's nothing new that Law came in a few Yrs ago. That's to stop one having Unregistered Sims for  Lawless activity.

    You replied:

When that law came in, I registered my sim online.

I used a Thai ID number I got from an online Thai ID number generator.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why didn't you just go the legit route and get a SIM at a shop using your passport? Too lazy or just a thug wanting to circumvent the lawful process?

ED?  Hmmmmm  Why do you always have penises on your mind?

These interest account should be for the Thai people only. Why should they accept you into their system.

I can’t even open a bank account in the UK, which is the country of my birth.

    There's your problem - UK

My Thai wife while in the USA reporting as my wife was able to obtain a social security card (which enabled her to work) and a bank account which was interest bearing.

I guess it sucks to be a Brit. You're ancestors should have taken a voyage on the Mayflower.

OMG, are you back annoying me.

You're out of your mind mate, I was commenting regarding your rediculous discriminating comment.

I don't care about you and your Panda Food issues.

I love Thailand's discrimination, it works for me but not for loser expats ????

OMG, you should be on TV so I can turn you off.

NOTE: I'm definitely not your mate. Besides I heard you had to pay to get any friends.

The answer to your question is obvious @dingdongrb and it's already been answered:

'The pensioner doesn't need to instigate further actions'.

Whilst one is fit and healthy and has their smarts about them, transferring their own pensions from abroad is easy. I've been doing it myself for years.

Then the pensioner should suffer any consequences if he/she doesn't want to adapt to changes....... Things are changing every day and if you cannot adjust then you could become a victim.

That's just part of life so get used to it or get left behind. One fine example is modern technology. If you only know how to use a dial phone to make a call then I guess it will be difficult for you to make a phone call these days.

Not everyone is in your 'lofty' position! Try being a little less arrogant and show some respect for other people's situations.

    Arrogant.....lofty position.....  ????

Just being realistic and if someone has moved here without a backup plan then it's their stupidity.....maybe they should have thought some with the big head instead of always using the little one.

Think you should double check your plan.

Often discussed in "banking finance" forum

No need..... My wife as well as my daughter both have their own accounts that would be more than enough for them while waiting for my will to be acted upon. Besides if it was really a necessity my wife could sell one (or both) of our residences here sine they are in her name.

But I've always had this thought in the back of my mind. "What if something happens rendering me unable carry out those tasks. How does my wife get hold of the funds that we need to live on?''

And that is why I have now switched to direct payments into my Krungsri account. I'm 77 yrs now, still fit and healthy in body & mind, but one never knows what's lurking just around the corner.

The modern buzz words would be 'future proofing' I guess.

If I have any health issues or die or for some reason locked out of my USA account my better half could use my BKK Bank debit card and draw funds from the 800k I keep there for my retirement extension.

Besides that I do have extra funds (above the 800k) in my BKK Bank there just for any unexpected emergencies (like the 160k THB I used last year for my stent operation).

'Prepare for the unexpected'.........duhhhhhh, it's not rocket science.

'Old age' should not be a reason.

I like it, good on them, if you don't like it you are not forced to stay, it's filtering out the penniless foreigners.

If you have the money, you are eligible.

Rubbish.....  I am sure I have much more money than the majority of those on this forum and sure in the he77 more than many Thais.

Money has nothing to do with it.

Panda Food won't allow me to use the TrueMoney Wallet account to prepay for food delivery due to the fact that I'm a foreigner....but Lazada allows me to prepay using that same account...... now explain that!

NOTE: Food Panda's reason is saying that I'm not a Thai. So I use my daughter's account.

Point taken but for some older folks it's very convenient and consistent and the pensioner doesn't need to instigate further actions.

How is having your pension in your home country or another bank outside of Thailand inconvenient?

    Further (difficult) action? -Hmmmmm

    1) Open new account

    2) Contact current pension administrator and change deposit info

You kindly gave some examples but missed the scenario which interests a very large % of the foreigners living full-time in Thailand. The folks who receive state pensions every month / 4 weeks from a foreign government.

Some further scenarios on this item:

    - State pensions  transmitted to the LOS from governments which have double taxation agreements with Thailand.

    - State pensions from government who have declared that their state pensions are exempt from their local taxes. That doesn't of course mean automatcally the same pension funds are exempt from Thai personal taxes.

    - State pension receipts and /or company pension schemes from past employment which are under the Thai personal tax threshhold. Will these folks have to register for a Thai tax number?

Perhaps you might like to respond. Thanks, I'm sure your comments will be appreciated by many foreigners living in the LOS.

As I asked and will question again, why even have pensions direct deposited into a Thai bank?

Wait for it; in China it's hard to get even a SIM card, as it needs to be registered by the shop, which can only be done online if the buyer has  a Chinese ID card. I'm waiting for that to be introduced in Thailand...

Wow, that's different than when I was living there back in 2006/2007. Then it had to be registered but I could do so using my passport. I am not sure but I think China was registering (tracking) SIM cards before Thailand.

Some have no choice as UK banks are clamping down/closing accounts of people who are not resident in the UK and have been doing so for a while now, and to open another is next to/if not actually impossible without proof of UK residence.

Bummer....  However, without looking I am sure there are other banks outside of Thailand a person could open an account and obtain a debit card to do ATM withdrawals internationally. Years ago I used to have an account with NetBank which had no brick & mortar locations. They provided me a debit card and I used it here in the USA, in Thailand, and as well as China when I lived there.
