  1. cheers Zpete - great tips.

    how's the wifi situation?!

    Ahhhhhhhhhh...... WiFi.... essential.

Yeah, I look for my usual spot.

Level 2 along the left hand end, there is a phone where I have been able to plug my power lead in.

I always carry a universal adapter, "Slazenger " brand, use it in any country.

Best tho', have a twin pin US style double adapter, as used in Thailand, unplug the phone and use d/adapter, don't forget to plug the phone back in.

Use the adapter in coffee places that have internet access and all plugs are in use, ask summun to let you plug yours in using the adapter.

The WiFi is good at this spot, there are lots of other possible hotspots, hope not too many read and use this info........LOL

    Upholstered seats, quite comfy.

    Coffee bars adjacent, good spot.

Wish ya luck, all this was OK earlier this yaer.

  2. I overnite at Swampy regularly for the same reason.

I suggest that if you WANT to sleep, there are heaps of upholstered seats to curl up on, on all levels.

I usually try and get a copy of the Nation, or Bangkok Times, fill in time.

If you are feeling like a feed, go to the Magic Food Point, near gate 8 on the 1st/bottom level.

Great place, cheap as, for good Thai tucker, avoid the usual airport rip off outlets..

You will need some Baht, just inside the door to the left, you can buy coupons to use for purchases at the food counters.

    Read ya paper, or woteva.

On the 2nd level it is quiet and you should be able to find a good spot to kip.

To save time, try for a spot on the departure level, a bit noisy, but you are close to check in areas.

Good luck, PM me if you want more info.

  3. I've never been to tuskers, never met the owners, got nothing against or for them, but do know the location. I do wonder whether it's one of those businesses that has been well built up successfully by the owners, but that success wont necessarily transfer to the new owner. Just my thoughts.

I've seen a couple of examples of that recently with smaller bar/restaurants that changed hands. Basic scenario was that each place had about half dozen regulars customers that you could count on to spend 600 to 1000 baht per day on food & drink and maybe twice that many that drop in for one drink per day, and business attributable to those regulars was what made the difference between the joint being profitable rather than not profitable. Those regulars seemed to be attracted to the place as much by comradery with the owner as by the quality of the food & drink Then a new owner comes and 3/4 of those regulars wind up being lost. That not only creates a revenue gap due to the directly lost business but it also makes the place appear to be empty, discouraging passersby from stopping in. It seems people generally are hesitant to stop into an emplty place unless they are already a regular, so when regulars start to vanish the problems can really snowball.

I think this is particularly true of a restaurant.

Empty restaurants usually give off the vibes that the food's lousy and empty bars are usually a sign of being both overpriced and no atmosphere.

I like the ambience, but it is off the main drag, so to speak.

Not sure about new custom, possibly have flyers in hotels and accommodation places.

  4. Hate to say it, but we all know it.

"Welcome to the Western World, this is the price you pay" ermm.gif

This time you can't blame us. It came through your TVs.

This is nothing new to The societies since everything including government, police etc. is run by gang, or so called Families. This is early education to prepare them for the future. :o

Thailand, welcome to the REAL WORLD.

Sad, but was bound to happen/

  5.

    :shock1:

there isn't an emoticon for speechless unfortunately

    :cheesy:....Yes there is........ :cheesy: :cheesy:

Laffin so much, I cannot speak.

In all truth, I can be most defensive of Bangers, love the city, visit 2 -3 times or more every year.

BEST city, well with a pinch of salt, or chilli.

Chiang Mai is my fave for relaxing and is most laid back.

This poll is by "The Gobblledegooks"

  6. Staying just a week is not long.

I suggest you try backpackers, many good ones with b/fast inc.

They will only be too helpful in suggesting places to visit, and cheapest.

Lots of fellow travellers for up to date info.

Mid November this year you will be able to enjoy Loy Krathon, top festival on Thai calendar

At that time of the year, Chiang Mai is a good option.

Take o/nite train, sleeper, travel and accommodation in one hit, my way, I visit at least once a year.

Shopping, if interested, is nore reasonable in Chiang Mai... inc gals hehe.

Lots to do up there, my fave for having a rest.

My other regular place is on Phuket, usually Chalong, easy to get to most places, half the price of Patong, which is getting as dear as Bangkok.

I can suggest many accommodation options, and sites to explore for what suits you.

    PM me with any questions.

  7. I like buffet feeds, but....

My preference is for more laziness.

Shabshabu, on Sukhumvit, acroos from Eastern Bus terminal.

Mind you, one has to cook your own food, or eat it raw, hotpot style.

The beauty is all the tukka comes along on a conveyor, like a sushi train.

Forgotten how much, about 200 baht, and ya eat for one and a half hours.

There is almost everything one could wish for.

    Well worth looking into.

  8. A waxed and depilated pussy is called a "Brazilian"

A similar treated ass could be called an "Australian"

    Had me ass "Okcored"

    .......... > > > > ........ oops, boomerangs coming, gotta scarper

  9. :)

Please move over to egg chasing section.

    Go Morons. :D

Mrtoad, reckon I mite agree with you there.

NRL is getting closer to the roujd ball game.

All the cuddling and, dare I say it, kissing.

Seems Union is about the only real men's game.

  10. Your onward flight is Airasia change it now or you will get nothing from them, it will take years to get a refund.

You will pay and pay. Thaksin Corporation he has to make a living somehow now that he is on the run. They will charge you for everything. Go to their website now. They offer nothing free and charge you Bhat 500 for luggage even if you have no checked luggage. Folllow my recent experience by looking for posts by colabamumbai.

The many times I've travelled Air Asia with no checked luggage I've never had to pay for luggage I didn't have.

While recently trying to book a flight online they had added a baggage charge of 500 Bhat to the total price.

I have flowb AirAsia 6 years bor more now.\,

    Caught once with baggage charge.

It is automatic, YOU NEED TO OPT OUT , UNCHECK A BOX.

  11. The official policy is seven kilograms and one bag per passenger.

However, my experience has been that this rule is not always enforced.

Flew BKK to Penang a couple of days ago (Wednesday) and had exactly the same experience; both my wife and I checked in on-line with just hand luggage and while we didn't weigh our bags, I'm certain both were over the 7 kg mark- mine by quite a way I'd guess. However, both our bags can easily fit inside the demo frames they have to check your luggage dimensions at check-in and don't look overly big or awkward.

The oddest thing we've seen with Air Asia is at LCCT in Kuala Lumpur. At security before taking the escalators up to passport control/immigration, the staff ask to see passports and boarding cards and also to check some of the passengers' luggage for weight/size. Showing our UK passports, we've never been stopped to date and that's now two years of constant travel with AA.

Not escalator, travelator, but yes, that has been the practice for years now.

I just keep my backpack on at checkin, never a problem, never asked to weigh it.

Was stopped at security one time, a bottle of duty free, just ran back and put it in the hold.

    Viva, Air Asia

  12. When in LoS, I pop over to Honkers from BKK regularly.

Being a kiwi, I take and change $NZ notes.

A NZ bank ATM card is handier than a debit card if they do not have the "Plus" symbol.

ASB charges 5 bucks + 1% FX fee. BNZ is $7.50 per transaction.

Use it anywhere in the world where you find ATMs with the "PLUS" symbol.

    Most countries have them.

  13. It's exactly as Zpete says.

The only thing I'll add is that if you get thru immigration into Malaysia quickly and have time to kill, there is a food court just outside the LCCT terminal. Just go past the buses to downtown KL. It's all local food at local prices and most of it is very good.

Yeah, I agree with you there, but watch the time.

Mind you I like to have my repast at "The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf", lot closer.

    Good tukka and coffee etc.

Plenty of sockets to plug in my laptop.

Malaysia is out of step with the rest of S.E.A., BIG EUROPEAN/UK SOCKETS.

49 Ringitt at bookstore for an adapter that will work in any country, "Slazenger" brand, great buy.

  14. Hey man, no problem.

I transit thru KL_LCC regularly, great little airport.

3 hours is heaps of time normally.

Get your check in done ASAP.

Do not hang around, get thru immigration and into departure lounge where there is comfortable seats.

    Lotsa food outlets too.

Booking 2 flights not a problem.

Book as early as you are able.

Simple process is to open 2 Air Asia booking sitespages.

Make your bookings up to the pay stage where the seats will be confirmed for each flight.

Then pay if all is as you wish..

    Simple as.

    Love Air Asia.
