You could submit a TM28 change of address form and/or a TM30 form to Hua Hin immigration.

I am sure it will be easier to get a certificate of residency there.

Thanks Joe - feedback seems good on the service offered in Hua Hin, so hopefully they will be good with Residence Certificates (I notice another poster saying he got a Residence Certificate from Jomtien Immigration with just a tourist visa - perhaps it is just Chaeng Wattana that is requiring 90-day Reporting records to issue one.)

When did Australian Embassy stop doing Res Cert (stat Dec) ?

I spoke to the Consul yesterday. She said they stopped Res Certifs in May, that they'd advertised it widely and it was on the website. (But she also said they are only doing stat decs for income declarations until January 7 2019 - but they stopped all other stat decs in May!)

  3. Any advice on how to get a residency certificate ~ I have to get 5 year driving license, 2 year temp expiring. Australian Embassy won't issue residency certificate anymore they told me; Immigration at Chaeng Wattana say they can't issue a Certificate to me because I'm "not in the system" as I've never undertaken 90 day reporting. (For 6 years I've travelled overseas at least every 3 months so always used TM6s).

My preferred outcome is to renew my driving licence - while I rent in Bangkok, I have a condo in Hua Hin - is Hua Hin office easier to get a Certificate of Residence, if I change my official residence to the condo?  Thanks.

    1. The 800k baht has to be in a Thai bank for 60 days on the date you apply for the first extension of stay (it is not a visa) and then 3 months after that. After your application is approved and you have the extension stamp you can do whatever your want to with the money until 3 months before you do the next application.

    2. You will do a statutory declaration at the Australian embassy to prove your income. The embassy does not ask for any proof. Some immigration office may want backup proof of your income.

Joe, do you still need a Stat Dec letter from the Australian Embassy confirming your address as well as from your landlord?

  5. I'm trying to find the sub-forum with all the latest details of docs we need to do annual retirement permit extension. Mine is next week. I was sure there used to be a sub-folder on ThaiVisa detailing all the docs and forms but I can't locate it in search. My main query this time is whether I still have to get a Stat Dec from the Australian Embassy in which I state I live where I live, plus the usual letter from my landlord saying I still live in the same apartment block. Thanks.

I think people should carefully read the OP before posting. He is not asking about the priority lanes.

He is asking about the automatic gates where the passport is swiped for entry instead of going to an immigration desk.

Also my reply to his post.

The problem is the Thai Airways in flight video. It clearly says in English that Thai and "residents" can use the smart gate if they have a chipped passport. I also asked on Monday night and immigration pointed me to the Thai queue.

  7. My NON-IMM really entry permit expires April 20. It was based on a work permit which I've since returned when I finished working. I'm wanting to apply for a new NON IMM in the final 30 days based on retirement (I have the bank account, etc materials) Can I go straight from this NON IMM to a new one or will I have to revert to a tourist visa in between?

  8. Bottom line Thaksin sees the 2007 charter as:

Having checks and balances he can't get around

So by going back to the '97 he can in someways reset the clock on several cases against him

And he will be back to his old level of control, which is exactly why they wrote the 2007.

There was a referendum and the public picked the '97. Yes. or No.

But he didn't get to control the referendum situation so he wants to redo.

The call for the restoration of the excellent 1997 constitution - or something very similar - has been called for by many across the political spectrum.

The junta's constitution was written to please the military and other non elected elite elements. The referendum passed not least because the military imposed government had made it clear it would be promulgated no matter what.Even so the close call in the popular vote was a slap in the face to the elite thugs.

    well said!

  9. Go see the guys in the index store, they are doing the dreambox thing. Not yet decided on this as would hate to be in the middle of something and the internet goes down!

Anyone have any experience in getting a satellite/cable service in Hua Hin that carries Australia TV - I know about JSAT in BKK, but am hoping there's someone local. We're moving into The Breze past Takiab.

  10. Maybe I'm getting old and skeptical, but a newbie posting a glowing review of a car rental agency on his very first post? :o

I'e used Mali Thai car rental several times located right at the airport if you're flying in (Lek is not BTW. I learned that). Walk out in the lot and check out your car before you sign on the dotted line if you like.

They also have a minimum liability coverage policy. 5k or 10k baht as I recall. You're on the hook for the first $100-300 if you are in an accident but they cover 100% after that. It makes sense if you think about it.

Mali Thai had a whole selection of 2x and 4x trucks and cars of various shapes and sizes. I've had a Ford truck, a Chevy 4x4 and a brand new Toyota from them. Most are 999 baht per day.

They don't have a website but it's a nice thai family owned business and most all of them have pretty decent english skills.

Their e-mail address : [email protected]

    Hotels. Nearly forgot.

I've stayed at the Charoensri Grand Royal Hotel right at the shopping center. Good place but aging a bit. Just a bit over 1k per night and while it had some nice amenities the wifi was grossly overpriced.

I've stayed at the Charoen Hotel right on Phosri Road. I liked this one as well as the other one and I paid 800-900 baht in November as a walk-in. An older hotel as well but very clean and the staff were helpful with several matters for me. The wifi wasn't cheap but bought in a 1-2 hour package. Still less than the other place.

Both of the above have elevators, pools, off street parking and typical things that a room above a pub will not have.

I just noticed they are both listed in the hotels section pinned at the top of this forum section.

I've used Mali for nearly five years - never a problem, great cars, great price. They even let me drop off at Suvarnaphumi for a small drop-off fee too.

  11. My wife and I are 95% sure that we will be buying a bar in, and moving to Nong Khai in the near future.

No lectures please as we have both been in the trade for some years and are selling our bar on Koh Tao at the moment.

I understand that there is a Tesco Lotus in NK but, is there a Big C, or Carefour? Is there a Macro, if not where is the nearest?

What is the night life generally like in NK and is it spread out or in one area? We will not be opening a "girly" bar as I am bloody sick of the hassles involved, just a comfortable, pleasant place with a little in the way of pub food, ie breakfast, lunches and snacks, anyone like Cornish Pasties? and maybe free Wifi if I can get a decent connection at the Western side of town.

Also, is there a decent computer dealer, as in, somewhere I can buy components etc. or is Udon the closest place?

Any information would be of help.

    Skwint :o

I reckon Nong Khai has huge potential, particularly with the new train to Laos. Anywhere near the riverfront market should work. Lots of farang visitors. The riverfront boardwalk is stunning now - great Thaksin-era infrastructure: quite a few Thai shop owners are reorienting their cafes and restaurants towards the river now.

  12. Just joined this forum and am delighted to find other rubbermen. We have two plots in Nong Khai one is 40 rai and the other is 80 rai, mostly RRIT251 and some RRIM600, and start tapping next year. We grow pineapples, sweet corn and chillies in between.

After 30 years managing computer companies the last five years as a farmer have been a wonderful change and I like to do much of the work myself, such as the land clearing and preparation. I have a New Holland TD 95. We also have a small fruit farm on the Mekong riverside.

Since we are just coming up to tapping, I would like to know how others organise the labour for this? Do you offer a % of the crop, or employ staff on a daily rate, or what? I have two full time helpers but obviously will need more staff for tapping. How many trees should an experienced tapper do in one night?

Hi mate. Just noticed your post. We are at Bueng Kan, and have about 35 rai in three lots - 15 year old, 10 y o and 5 y o. Where in Nong Khai are you?

  13. Great site! Can anyone suggest where I can buy some grape vine cuttings? We're in the dryer Nong Khai area. We have some rubber land but I'd like to try grapes as well - have grown them in the dyer parts of Western Australia, so I think the Grenache or Spanish types might have a better chance in Isaan. I know grapes are grown in the hills out of Bangkok but are more the cooler Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz types I think.

    thanks for any assistance.

I recently bought a couple of grape vines at a local agricultural show.

I am not sure that the vines will thrive in my area (they don't look very happy),

I don't think grapes are easy to grow in the tropics without either a plastic roof to keep the rain off or lots of fungicide sprays.
