  1. Update on progress, not a duplicate post.

12 marathons of 21 completed so far.

Hi, a close friend of mine Lance (56) a long time resident of Chiang Mai and his running partner Ahoo (42?) are running 21 marathons and trying to do it in 21 days. It was Ahoo's idea as he is an avid runner with a difference, he is almost completely deaf and is from the Aka tribe near Chiang Rai. I believe the run is to raise awareness and solidarity between the various hill tribes of Northern Thailand. The run has been sponsored by various organizations The runs will end with a meeting at the Privy Council in Bangkok and hopefully a brief audience with His Majesty The King, but that has not been confirmed.

As of today 20th of April the two men have completed their 12th marathon in as many days. They stated the run in Mae Sai. Anyone interested in following their progress can do so on Sports Tracker (type in 21 marathons). If you'd like to leave a positive message for the 2 runners you can do so by clicking on 'workout overview' or just follow the progress.

I know many people have done extreme runs and ultra marathons(100 in 100 days, 365 in 1 year etc.) before but only a handful of people in the world have taken on this kind of challenge.

    Thanks

  2. Heard today from the cleaning ladies that today (Thursday 4th Oct) was the last day for CWE Chiang Mai, could be a rumor or just gossip, but there was no regular staff around to confirm/deny the story. I keep expecting the doors to be locked when I get there, it's difficult to imagine they can stay open much longer.

  3. I know a lot of guys in Chiang Mai cycle, I was thinking of putting my mountain bike on the bus to Nong Khai and cycling over to Laos and cycling back to Chiang Mai.

My question is are there any problems or restrictions taking a bicycle over the border? and is it safe/convenient to put a bike under the bus?

I do a lot of cycling but have never used a bus or crossed a border.

    Thanks for any advice guys.

  4. I came here a number of years ago on an O visa, when I reached 50 I went to a 'retirement' visa. If I want to work and get a work permit, job is already waiting for me, do I need to leave the country and get a new visa?My last O visa was in 2008 and my current retirement visa ( permit to stay) is based on that. Can I apply for a work permit using the old O visa?

Anyone have a definitive answer? Thanks in advance guys.

  6. Thanks for all your suggestions, my friend has zero experience with Thailand. He contacted me for help, so he wants to take the step and stop drinking. The Cabin's fees are 3,500 pounds for a 14 day program and double for the 28 days. I will encourage him to stay after the detox and attend AA meetings if all goes well. At this point he's so dependent that he's worried about the flight, so getting here may be a challenge. Thanks again.

  7. I went through the same situation, instead of buying and old stair master I bought a new STARTRAC spinner bike from Bangkok, I went for the 'V' bike, absolutely satisfied with it 100% recommended. PM if you need the dealer, great service/price etc

  8. You forgot to add 'That is if money and possessions are your mark of success and happiness'

I'd like your outlook on life once you've been in Asia for 20 years, you are no longer so attractive and not so full of bullshit.

  9. I went to my local Kawasaki dealer today to order a new Boss 175 and was surprised to learn that they no longer make it. I was wondering if anyone has seen a 'new' one on the show room floor of your local dealer, I know hey can sit there for some time, any leads would be appreciated, I know that this is probably a long shot, please don't recommend I buy a Phantom. Thanks in advance

  10. The new rule is that instead of having to make 42/44 years contribution in order to get a state pension, you now just make contributions for 30yrs. I hope you realise that if you remain in Thailand when you come to

retirement age, you will not receive any yearly increase on your pension. My advise do not make any more contributions.

If I don't make the contributions I wont get the full pension, so why wouldn't I make them? I don't follow the rational. Could you please explain, Thanks.
