great stuff - thanks all for that
the HSBC ---> Kasikorn route looks desirable - I'll look for an appropriate branch...
cheers
EDIT: just to go over I'll need to open a HSBC thai account and transfer HSBC UK > HSBC Thai > Kasikorn as I can't transfer HSBC UK > Kasikorn direct...?

Hello All
Which is the best thai bank/ bank account for me to open as a uk resident who wilol be transferring money from either my HSBC or Barclays accounts?
I'm marrying my thai gf in july, have a baby coming in november and am going over tomorrow for 3 weeks then returning to Thailand in september for a longer time. (Dunno about doing a joint account but thats another story). Whats the best farang-friendly bank that I can transfer cheaply to? whats the best account interest-wise?
I notice a member mentioned transferring from barclays in another thread.
Thanks for previous help and thanks in advance to anyone who has any ideas...

hello all, another naive one:
whats the best way to get money over?
I've used my visa debit card in the past but I got hit with loads of commission and got a bad rate i think.
This time I have about £3k to spend - I was gonna take the £1k in baht I already have and take the rest in english cash and change in the booths over there.
Is there a more cost-effective way? e.g. like travellers cheques or changing cash pounds to baht here in the uk beforehand...?
thanks in advance to anyone who has the best way

hello all - a naive question:
Do uk TVs work in thailand? LCD tvs especially...?
also would, for example, a uk playstation 2 work?

Thanks for the advice chaps. maybe i'll just get the tourist stamp if i'm ok to go back given that it may take weeks to get my passport back from Hull - wanna be back in early july.

all good. how long does it take for a non-immigrant o visa to come back?

thanks for that puuchai299, I'm gonna get over asap then. I heard about the non-immigrant 'o' visas and if i get my new passport in time, I'll try for one. Cheers

Hello All, I spent the first 4 months of this year (2 lots of 2 month trips on a tourist stamp with a 30 day extension visa run on each trip - went back to UK briefly in march) My time in thailand was Jan 2 - march 9 and march 15 - May 2. My question is: Can I go back at the end of this month?
On the Laos border I noticed that your only allowed 90 days in thailand out of any 6 months and thought I was gonna get stuck in laos but the thai girl i was with said she could sort it no problem (I'd already been in thailand for around 90 days and was after another 30 day extention. She sorted it no problem.
So it appears there is no centralised database because had no problem leaving at the airport either. Can I fly out at the end of this month from the UK for a few weeks I wonder...?
cheers
