  1. Hi All

I did the online NI contribution/Pension Top-up Assessment

It said I need to pay from 2008 to now if I want the 180 pounds a week figure it gave me - the sum from 2008-2024 is 12k pounds (probably nearer 10 as I'll be tier 3 for all that time (teaching here since then))

I know I will need to continue to pay until retirement age (another 13 years) if I top up.

My question is: If I pay from 2008 to 2038 (about 20-25k i think), I can get my 180 pounds a week equivalent when I retire while staying in Thailand or not?

Thanks to anyone who can shed light.

    LL

I should add that ostensibly it seems that I'd get my 20-25k back after a couple of years so it seems a deal too good to be true if I want to draw a UK gov pension in Thailand

I would suggest that if she has time for the ticket to be reissued with the correct spelling - do it now.

I had some dramas in Seoul recently when my name was misspelt on my boarding pass - definitely not worth the hassle!

It is their mistake - get them to fix it.

My friend spelt her Aunt's surname wrong so it's her mistake

Cheers for the replies so far 🙂

  3. Hi all

A colleague of mine has bought a plane ticket with
Emirates and got one letter wrong on her Aunt's long Thai name.

She contacted Emirates and said they will add this to REMARKS on the ticket but not change it.

I imagine this happens sometimes with the transliteration of long Thai names

Is there likely to be a problem in members' experience?

She obviously just wants peace of mind

    Kind Regards LL

  4. Hello all

Im considering buying a house that is in a foreigners company name and putting it in my Thai wife's name.

the house has been in a company name for around 15 years and the sale price is 2.6mb. The amphur/ land office is sattahip (if that matters)

How much can I expect to pay in fees and taxes?

many thanks and regards to all

  5. Hello All

Ive got an appointment to get my affirmation to marry from the U.K. Consulate this Thursday 19th which is a holiday of some sort I believe.

I have been told I can get the translation done opposite Chang Wattana (the big pyramid building, right) and don't need to go in to the building itself as the translation firm can arrange for the translation to be stamped and posted to my home (in chonburi)

    1. Is this true?

    2. Are the translation offices open this Thursday?

    3. How much does the service cost about?

many thanks to any wh can shed light and regards to all on here

  6. If I get a room in a hotel in Pattaya with breakfast (on agoda) I'll get the breakfast, right?

all the restaurants are shut, right? My gf and kid went to Pattaya yesterday and the food court in terminal 21 was packed out with western tourists. That's a no-go-zone for me...

    regards

  7. The PGCEi is full on. Grading on par with a UK uni. It was interesting and insightful for me. I'm aiming for a merit profile which is kind of like a 2:1. The academic writing needs to be up to scratch but to scrape a pass wouldn't be difficult to native speakers.

I've met many teachers who have done the filipino diploma thing over here and I believe its easy but not worth anything outside of Thailand. There were graduates from the filipino one on the PGCEi who said the former was woeful. The PGCEi is 3-4 times the price but I thought the Thai-based qualifications wouldn't be worthwhile even though I'll probably not teach outside of Thailand.

  8. I've had 6 years (at the same school) on a temporary license and changed schools to a well-known change of schools in pattaya. The problem stems from TCT not accepting my stage in acquiring the PGCEi I think.

My tutor says that maybe the TCT won't accept until I have a copy of the certificate (which was news to me as i thought enrollment amounted to professional development). I get my final grade on 22/10, my visa expires 26/11 and the certificates are obtainable from 'early December'.

I'm going to send my final grade document, with a print out of a specific supporting email from my Notts uni tutor on 23/10 and hope for the best.

If the TCT reject again. I need to acquire another toutist vise to convert to B visa and reapply for my TL/WP again in December, right?

  9. Having spoken with an experienced tutor today, she said the next step would be to send the grade email which may be enough.

I had opportunity to submit the final assignment early for an early grade which I could have done as I'd finished but continued tinkering with it aiming for a higher grade.

I'd been thinking all along that proof of enrollment was all that was required.
