  1. Just tried to order one online, they only accept Thai (Asean) and US based credit cards. I'm not in LOS at the moment and thought I would order one so it's there when I get back home. Anyone know what the stock is like at the resellers (Powerbuy, etc.) now?

Not true, they accept my European credit card. 2 weeks waiting, but free delivery by DHL.

  2. All nice - in theory.

Don't forget, most of Thailand's mobile internet is still 10kB/sec upload. Often less and often broken.

And even in a country like Japan, a tourist won't have mobile internet at all.

  3. The Galaxy Tab wifi-only cannot tether to ad-hoc networks. It also cannot tether via bluetooth or USB.

It also has a different processor and graphic chip compared to the normal GT.

It is cheap, but I'd not recommend it.

  4. Try living in Phuket... vastly more expensive than Bangkok. It's very hard to find even a small house for to rent for less than 15,000THB a month and frankly you have to search for those. I paid on average 23,000THB for a 2-bed house in central Phuket, near to the school where I worked, not near the beach.

What a bargain. And hilarious, what people here complain about :)

We recently had a discussion on rental rates for houses in central BKK, and it was agreed that 100-150K is not overly expensive.

Maybe I should move to Phuket....

  5. One thing to consider is that if you bring her home there may be lots of younger, better looking, richer guys hitting on her. It is probably a lot cheaper if things go wrong here and not so much competition as we are mostly farang kee nok.

And she can use the UK divorce machine to fleece you into poverty.

  6. Just received a call offering me to invest in a Christmas Tree Farm in Northern Thailand.

The caller gave me his personal guarantee that I would receive a 150% return on my money (investing Cash only) and that it was not a scam.

    What do you think?

Ask him, why he makes a meager living by hassling people with stupid phone calls. He shall invest in his christmas trees and become rich.

  7. Don't care about the camera.

If you just need a phonen/sms, get a sturdy Nokia. For example "2700 classic", 2400 Baht.

Never buy at Panthip/MBK and such places. Go to a proper shop in a mall. The prices are almost same everywhere, no need to shop around to save 100 Baht.

  8. When looking to rent a condo/apartment, a condo owner admitted, that the advertised "living area" includes the parking space.

I already had the suspicion several times that the way of calculation here is highly flexible.

For example, I see a condo, advertised as 102m2, and it looks like a floor space of 80m2 to me.

I measured the places I have stayed so far and with a lot of good will, including balconies, I get around 10% less floor space than the advertised area.

I may have been just unlucky - but what is your experience? Are balcony areas part of the "living area" and what else is added to the pure floor space of the condo?

  9. Once I have checked it out for possible rental.

The location is great for certain customers, but many will probably avoid it like hell....

There is a lobby which rents out the condos for ridiculous prices (60k+ as I remember). But agents do it for half that price - the lobby girl told me and I confirmed it.

Lots of Arabs. The elevator had some bar girls who invited me to some party. That is the kind of folks you will expect there.

    The condo has no balconies.

I didn't rent and wouldn't buy. But actually I wouldn't buy anything in BKKs bubble market.

  10. Yes, works again.

BTW, don't do a factory reset of your mobile if something is not working.

This involves a lot of work afterwards, reinstalling software, settings etc.

You can be almost sure, it is Thai technology, and not your mobile.

You may install some network tester app, which tells you if your network is up and running. Good for Wifi hotspots too, which often have problems.

  11. That should remind you that if you want 3G in Thailand, you should take care that your phone supports 850, 900 and 2100 MHz at least.

Most phones, practically all cheaper and midrange Androids, do just support 900/2100. This will cut you off TRUE and DTAC 3G now and in the future!

    Yes, TIT again, nothing consistent.

The iPhone and most new upper Nokias support those frequencies.

  12. I'm having issues with my DTAC data connection since yesterday evening. I'm using an iPhone 4 with unlimited prepaid DTAC internet data plan.

In the settings, the personal hotspot button keeps spinning, I've already reset the iPhone to factory settings but it's still not working.

When I logged in the DTAC web portal to check my current data plan package, it says that the server can't process the current operation. Is anybody else having issues with it these days? Is the trouble caused by DTAC or my iPhone? unsure.gifsad.gif

Yes, it is completely broken, at least in BKK.

No DTAC internet, and I'm sure they will not compensate for those who have a package.

    TIT....
