  1. My argument is that with affirmative action the people that are appointed to some positions are selected purely on the criteria that they are women and/or minorites, they aren't selected on merit. The GG has even put it on record that she is pushing for a quota system to get more females in higher positions. Nothing about merit, purely on being a female.

This crap about "gender equality" cannot be taken serious. It is raisin picking, they want advantages only based on their gender. They don't want "equality", but preferential treatment.

I will take it serious once they demand equal opportunities in

    • working at construction sites
    • canal work
    • mining
    • junk disposal
    • all dirty, hard labour 99% men are doing

They don't want that. They want high salaries, high positions, 20-hour weeks and a nearby coffee machine (serviced by men).

  2. They pack EVERYTHING except antiperspirant deodorant. Any backpackers reading, please use the bars inside the Skytrain instead in order to not kill everyone in the car. Don't use the hand grips up top! Thanks!

There are not many backpackers in the Skytrain, because it is too far from Khao Sarn Road.

    :)

  3. That is just totally untrue. Most people who commit suicide,or threaten it, or attempt it, don't want to do it. The evidence to support this statement is overwhelming.

No, women rarely do that. They enjoy too much the compassion they receive.

And those who say that she needs professional help are certainly right. The problem is: these borderline characters don't want professional help and will probably refuse it if offered.

There are too many men who have been in similar situations. If you haven't, count yourself lucky. But you can learn how to identify borderline characters to be able to avoid them.

  4. There is a simple answer if you want a higher job position:

Work more, study harder, moan less. Men do it for centuries.

It is hilarious that the most privileged and pampered women in the world, living in Western countries, are constantly moaning about some alleged "discrimination".

Do the same work as men do, and you can have the same respect. But if you believe that just being a woman does make you automatically superior, you are plain wrong.

  5. when i went travelling i had a 120L bag full of all my stuff. 6 months is a long time to be away with only a handfull of posessions.

Even on longer journeys, I never have more than 10kg (including the bag). I always carried a sleeping bag and mask/snorkel/fins as my luxury items. Then a few clothes and that's it.

People I see here with daypacks often seem to need much more even for a day out. :ermm:

  6. Don't just walk out, you'd never forgive yourself if the worst happened.

    She will not do it.

These borderliners want to make others feel guilty. "It's not my fault, it is yours". Typical attitude to "punish" someone while being totally irresponsible in every means.

Yes, it is a good idea to inform her best girlfriend, brother or whoever that you are going to walk out and that they should have a look at her.

    That's all you can do.

Then walk, walk fast and don't look back. You are NOT responsible whatever happens.

  7. but she had two failed suicide attempts in the past year.

She does this for attention seeking and blackmail. Not uncommon behaviour for women. It is not serious. Probably borderliner.

Men should avoid such women at all costs. Your friend should run and not look behind.

  8. That's correct. There may be some advantage flying Thai in Business or First, but I haven't used them since the move to Suwannaphoom. For other airlines in First or Business there is no "fast track" on departure, and upon arrival it is not always provided by the airline.

There is a fast-track at departure in Swampy, have used it several times and it is indeed fast.

  9. Kasikorn offers a 14-months fixed deposit account with the following step up interest rates:

    Step-up Fixed Deposit 14 Months

Deposits from Baht 0.01 million and above Fixed Deposit Term

    1-3 1.25 1.25

    4-6 1.75 1.75

    7-9 2.50 2.50

    10-12 3.50 3.50

    13-14 4.50 4.50

Has somebody opened it recently and what happens if you withdraw money before maturity?

My idea is to have minimum 800K on this account to be usable for extension of stay at immigration, but possibly use up some amount before maturity. A good idea or not?

(I could just go and ask my Kasikorn branch, but then you are never sure about the answers you get....)

  10. Vietnam, Laos & Indonesia are not promoting their countries as a retirement destination. Nor do they make false advertising claims. You get what they advertise for Bali. Vietnam has a cautious approach when it makes representations to foreigners. Vietnam also has had the legacy of foreign caused wars. The country was bombed into the stone ages and has had to rebuild with limited assistance. There was no Marshall plan for the country. Vietnam will eventually dominate the region once its infrastructure projects and educational plans are completed. That's the difference: Vietnam has a plan.

    Agreed.

Vietnamese are much more intelligent than Thais. More the Chinese mentality than the typical SE Asian. But the country has still a long way till it will be of a similar standard as Thailand. And the motorbikes/traffic there is much worse than here.

Indonesia is crappy everywhere, but people (except for police/army) are nicer. Philippines in most aspects worse than Thailand.

Actually, Laos is still poor in most parts, but Vientiane and Luang Phrabang are nice cities, nicer than any city I find in Thailand.

It is all about a compromise you make. My expenses in Thailand are similar to the West, but I don't pay taxes here. That makes a big difference.
