  1. Depends very much on your age and life style back home.

When younger, I lived in a studio apt and was happy. It had running water and heating in winter.

Now, a few decades later, I wouldn't think a second to repeat such life. I need space and comfort. 20k for a 2br in Bkk near bts/mrt? I have seen these crappy places - why should I consider to stay there when my life back home was much better?

  2. Well in the case of Arnold it will be completely different. he married a woman much richer, more powerful and more educated then he was and is now. In his case he fuc_ked up so in the court system he will be the one thaqt caused the seperation but I do not think his wife will ask for anything in return

In the West, even a rich woman will get huge parts of a man's assets:

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 5/20/11 – Arnold Schwarzenegger has terminated his film and TV schedule that included five projects that could have earned him over $100 million.

On the negative side of his cash flow is that most of the money could go to Maria Shriver, who has hired a shark of a divorce lawyer. She could get a settlement of between $200 and $400 million, according to KNBC. They will work it out in mediation to avoid a media-circus court trial.

This is the Western way of Sin Sod. Even if you are not Arnie, you will be fleeced if you are a man.

Keep this in mind when you haggle a few thousand Baht your Thai GF wants. It is nothing compared to a Western divorce.

(and 50-60% of Western women will some day divorce)

  3. Those who believe that in the West you marry out of pure love, without money issues attached, should have a look at the coming divorce of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

    Pure love, sure!

In Thailand, if you marry into a poor family, a modest Sin Sod cannot compare to the rip-offs in the West. Therefore pay something to the family, finance a modest party and everybody is happy. Unless you are dirt poor yourself.

In the case of the OP, this is a serious case of blackmail and that would stop me of having a big heart. There are millions of proper girls (with proper) families available in Thailand, and you can always upgrade.

  4. This is TOTALLY annoying and no it is not just middle easterners. I find Europeans +50 to be worst offenders. All anyone has to do when they get a sim is have the language changed to English. If they cant deal with English, best they just not use a phone. The notion that the world needs stop every time these morons want to charge their sim....well, most are sociopaths any way, you can tell by the manner they shove the phone at the poor clerk and then look at you with some condescending aire. and NEVER an apology.

As for the "poor" crack - I use about 60b a month of talk time. Why would I want to deal with an Internet purchase for that sum? In fact, I rather like pre-paid and I try to limit any and all Internet transactions - period. I'm totally not interested in a bank-sim.

    You don't understand:

You can top up any prepaid SIM from your Thai bank account via internet banking. No need at all for visiting a 7.

  5. When you book Airasia, always use their MOBILE site, not the normal one.

Much faster and more reliable. And don't forget to cancel the "insurance" they hassle you to buy!

  6. I have the N8, fantastic phone and has not had any issues at all.

Yep! Best phone camera in the market. Needs some time to learn, but better than any android device.

Quit drinking beer for another month and a half and you can afford the Samsung Galaxy S2

My N8 was purchased before the release of the Galaxy S2, it was purchased over other "smart phones" that I could also afford due a small requirement of being able fit into my shirt pocket, It has performed faultlessly and does everything I expect in a phone, takes awesome pictures as well.

A lot of the Android fanboyzz don't understand what a good mobile camera is, what OTG means, the usefulness of connecting keyboards or even a mouse, and especially the full set of 3G frequencies. Not to mention a proper offline navigation (Navteq).

  7. K-bank has two-factor authentication for anything important - funds transfers, bill payments - they send you an SMS as a one time key as a backstop.

    I don't receive this SMS.

Once I am logged in, I can do everything, bill payment, funds transfer and such. No extra security.

That's why KBank internet banking is generally unsafe.

Don't keep big bucks on this account. Don't use internet banking from public computers (key logger danger).

Remember: this is Thailand and if something goes wrong, it is 99% the farang's fault.
