Hello SummaiJimmy
Yes, I'm reviewing all the bird pictures as there isn't much else to do on this thread, until you posted your pictures a few moments ago. Nice!
Anyway, I was on page 1 and I found your picture
Can this be the Brahminy Kite. I have seen a few of them around. But this one is a tad bit too far away. The below pictures of the Brahminy Kite was taken at the Mahachai Mangroves some 90 minutes with car outside Bangkok.
And they have a special sound that is not to hard to copy, at least I thought I was under the impression that I sounded like a Brahminy Kite
But, I'm not sure what the Brahminy Kite thought. I was 4 meters from her/ him making my "EXCELLENT" Brahminy Kite sound and I thought that we had a real conversation going for us. But when I look at the pictures it looks more like she/ he looks at me wondering who the <deleted> is.
I don't know, at least I have a hart time saying of we had some kind of communication or if she/ he was just calling for help

I had hoped on my recent trip to Udon Thani, that I would see many birds.... but saw very few... and not many close up!
Not sure what these are.
Dear Su.... No. we're not walking down that path again!
Thank you for blowing life to this thread again!
Can that be an Asian Open bill?

Here is a Plantive Cuckoo from Bangkok. And I'm almost 100% sure you have heard the bird in Thailand even though you might not have seen it.
I don't know how to put the sound here, but if you follow the link you will hopefully be able to hear the bird

Please call 911! The thread is dying on us! I will do some basic CPR meanwhile
A Little Egret in Sri Nakorn Kuen Kan park. Just cross the river on the 3 Baht ferry from Klong Toey
A Little Egret as we can see on the yellow feet. The Cattle Egret looks the same but have black legs and feet. I use another trick when I cannot see the feet to identify the bird. If the Egret is at the water it is a Little Egret. If I see the Egret on pastures it is a Cattle Egret

Hello Ron
Yes, first time I saw the Peewee I thought it was a starling or myna as they look a little like the oriental pied starling but different colour. I saw them again (of course, they are all over the place) and one lady out bird watching told me it was a Magpie-lark
I spotted them again and now one of the bird watching girls (from Melbourne) told me it was a Peewee
And as in your pictures, they look different, even in the same group. Some with vertical stripes and some with horizontal, with a black stripe over the eyes like a bank robber
So I thought it was different birds with different names until I learned about the different names depending from where you come from in Australia

Hello Ron
Malaysian Pied Fantail (Pied fantail) in Thailand
They look very alike, Willie have the grey stripes under the bill and the Thai have the stripes on top of the head. And the Thai fantail have a black band on the chest
And as you say, the Malaysian Pied Fantail is a little more brownish
Willie Wagtail, maybe the Australian Fantail looks a wee bit more sullen
296-3.gifBut the Australian fantail takes the prize with the name
I really like the Noongar Australian Aboriginal name for the Willie Wagtail (a Flycatcher not really a wagtail) which is "Chitty Chitty" - exactly the sound they make.
Mousehound, I like the Australian names as well, and it seems like they have a liking for Wi or We like willy willy. And the Peewee drove me crazy. Took me along time before I understood that it was the same bird they were talking about as they name it different from where you are from in Australia
And I can see that the Indian Rollers still looks good on Samui. Of course Samuijimmy, after a long polishing of your feathers you will attract someone
I don't know, but I think the different colours can have something to do with age/ time of the year as well

Philchumpon, beautiful!
But I think that they will give you a hard time for the frames. I used to have frames, but I ended up in the penalty box
A beautiful bird, and we will hopefully have more bird pictures coming

Yes, need stuff to make a nest and he is in a hurry to find a female before he goes bald like I have seen quite a few of them by now in Bangkok
I have sen a few new birds, but as I'm in Australia I cannot post the pictures here. Yes, I have seen a NOT BALD Common Myna, but also quite a few other birds that we don't have in Thailand. Among them a bird with what I would like to say atypical Australian name Willie Wagtail
Yesterday I was flying, no swimming with a beautiful turtle.
He swam in to something looking like a tunnel and I swam over to the other side. But there was no exit and I lost him
With a wee bit of imagination it looks like a bird!

Dear Samuijjimmy
Finally someone posting pictures!
I think you mean one new bird. And I would not be surprised if it is a spotted dove
The other picture is our old "friend" the Yellow vented bulbul

Maybe you can help me out here. I have put this down as a Little Heron. But he/she have green legs. The Little Heron you posed and the other Little Heron I posted have orange legs. This bird was taken the same day as the Little Heron on the previous page. Is this a Little Heron with the green legs. And this one don't have the feathers on the top part of the legs like your and my previous pictures
Thanks
Here is a Little Heron from the same day
And by the way, I was up at 5 this morning just to discover that my battery was flat when I reached my birding place at 7. Back home and I gave up the bird watching for today

Plain Prinia. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/610576-for-the-birds/?p=10899564
Second one you are right!
Plahgat
Thank you
I had put it as a plain Prinia. I tooka picture of the brown Prinia and they didn't looked the same, but almost. I compared on the internet and the brown Prinia only have one dot on the tail and the Plain Prinia had 3 as the one I took the picture of.
Identifying, not easy and thats why I like the colourful birds as they are usually very easy to identify
These small birds, sometimes they look like me
I don't know what they do with their feathers, but they look like a ball, and sometimes the same bird look like a stick
But I get some exercise out of it and it is really nice to walk around looking at the flora and fauna
Thanks for the help identifying the birds

^Have you been to Safari Park in Safari World (Minburi, Bangkok)? You can get your car right up to 100s of storks and others for great picture opportunities.
Thank you
I cannot speak for the other members posting pictures here. But I have an (stupid?) idea that I want to see the animals in their freedom. There are safari worlds that might be worth visiting. But I have heard a lot on how animals are treated here during my years in Thailand so I keep well clear
They should close the zoos and open more national parks as the habitats disappears in an alarming rate all over the world.

I was sneaking around the bushes, must have been like an elephant, trying to get close to the Little Egrets. Imagine the pictures I could have taken if I had been in one of the rented paddle boats. Well, as I'm 4 times bigger than the boat I can also imagine the Thai people catching sight of this "What the duck is that?"
But to be on the water taking pictures would have been perfect looking straight in on their nests.
I will take one of those "Air Stewardess diets" over night and see if I can rent a boat tomorrow

For The Birds !

Don't be disappointed, even if you didn't see any birds you had the luxury to spend time in the nature. Give me a ring next time you're in Bangkok if you're up for some "early" mornings
