  1. Just curious as to how many expats have wives/partners who go out to work. Does it bother you that they do, what do you do in their absence, do you feel lonely at all because of it or indeed do you welcome it to have time alone.

My wife has her own business in a market and seemingly does quite well with it, she leaves home around 2:30-3pm and returns home between 8:30-9. We do whatever we want to do together in the mornings and early afternoon. She does take the occasional day off if we want to go somewhere special or out for dinner in the evenings. I’m well used to being on my own as in my working life my job took me away from home regularly and I had to spend a lot of time in my own so it doesn’t really bother me at all. Health issues prevents me from being to adventurous so apart from the occasional walk around our malls and having a coffee I’m happy to stay home and potter around in the garden or watch a movie that I want to watch. How do others pass the time?

  2. From knowing the process of cardless withdrawal at Bangkok Bank

Maybe I’m a simpleton but can you explain to me the process of doing it, is it any quicker or easier than with a card. I do have a Bangkok Bank account and have been tempted to try to do it but there’s always someone waiting behind me and not want to make a fool of myself trying to fathom it out. Thanks.

  3. Hi again notrub.

No, have never paid anything nor have ever been asked to. Everything I need from the unit works perfectly except connecting to t-connect which I have never missed not being able to use. What I would like would be Apple Car play but I believe I would need a complete new unit at a very high replacement cost which with the car now being 5 years old probably not cost effective for me.

  4. Hi notrub.

I can use my inbuilt gps system without my iPhone and works perfectly and accurately.
When I first got my car I was given a package for t connect but even the showroom couldn’t get it to connect to my phone as I couldn’t install the right app for it. My Apple ID is uk registered and the app not available on the uk site.
I’ve never had any problem using gps etc whatsoever without t connect being active.

  5. I too have a CHR now 5 years old and I have never had a problem with using the onboard GPS nor have I ever had to pay to use it, my only gripe is being unable to update the system. Can’t help with Android as I’m an Apple user but my iPhone happily connects to the system simply with Bluetooth and if I use Google maps on my phone the spoken instructions still come through the onboard unit. Surely Bluetooth would/should solve your connectivity I would have thought.

  6. I had a similar problem but found on Lazada some memory foam replacements which have solved my fitting problem.
My wife lost one of hers a couple of years ago and was able to order just one replacement, make sure that you know if it’s the left or right one though.

  7. Last year when on our daily visit to oversee our new house being built, the floor tiles had been layed only a few days before and there was a carpenter fixing door etc. He had brought his around 3-4 year old son with him, he was working in another room and the baby was playing with the live electric drill on the floor happily putting the trigger and letting the revolving drill bit scrape all over the tiles.
I called out to my wife she told the boy off which resulted in him bawling his head off and then she went on to chastise the chippie for allowing it all to happen. A careful check on the tiles and thankfully no damage.

  8. I’m sitting in our markets car park as I’m reading this, it’s clearly marked to turn left on entry and is a one way system. A minibus had just passed me going the wrong way so of course all those doing it properly are now all going nowhere as there are no passing places. The minibus can only reverse and he is not happy about having to do so. I’m quite happily sitting here watching the entertainment.

  10. Gweiloman, your post makes no sense to me and cannot see the point your trying to make and no my car doesn’t support Apple play but I can connect my phone to it to hear Google maps direction instructions but not an on screen map. I simply find the Toyota gps system to be very good and accurate and after 5 years is now a little out of date but like the op we cannot seemingly update it, that is my only issue, where is your difficulty in accepting that.

  11. I hear what everyone is saying about using your own phone which I do whenever the Toyota gps cannot find what I’m looking for but I simply prefer the built in system rather than having something else clogging up my windscreen or dashboard which I assume also applies to the original poster as well.

  12. I’m in the same position as you and would like to know how to do. All I can find out is that the gps is on a small memory card which should be easily replaced. By all accounts the Toyota Cross which has many similarities with the chr has a much improved system including Apple play and the Google equivalent but any enquiries at our local Toyota dealership only gets me blank looks.
