  1. citizen33 i am happy that i could not get a manufactured worktop. I think my wife would have preffered one but i really llike the idea of tiles. (when i was in UK i couldn't have afforded to do it like this!). Your worktop sounds nice also, i'd like to see a pic if you have one. My cabinets were premade but i have no idea where the fitters purchased them. I doubt home pro, there's nothing as mordern as that near me!

  2. Hi Mods,

I have just read a post in the ladies forum entitled Squatter's Rights? complaining about guys posting irrelevant, (for want of a better word), comments in their forum. I can fully understand the annoyance, although the wording seemed a bit harsh.

When i view posts i go to the "view all posts" link and then click on any post that appears interesting. This means i have multiple posts open at the same time and read each one as it is loaded. Once to post is open there is only one place to see what forum it is in, that is in small grey letters at the bottom right of the page. Can you do something to make it more obvious what Forum the particular post is in?

For any annoyed ladies reading this, i apologise for any misplaced comments in your forum and will try to be more careful in the future.

    Nigel.

  3. Have a Honda motorsai (2007 CBR 150) which has an 11:1 compression ratio. For you non-motorheads, this is higher by far than any car motor out there, unless you own a fully tuned exotic.

My bike runs fine on 91.

One of the biggest mis-understandings on the part of motorists is that a higher octane rating, say 95 vs. 91, provides more power.

It is the exact opposite. Use the LOWEST octane rated fuel (in a NATURALLY ASPIRATED ENGINE; turbo/supercharged whole different deal) in your motor that does not cause detonation (pre-ignition, also caused "knocking").

My advice? Go with the 91 (non-gasohol) for any high-perf motor. You got an older Beemer? 91. Old Range Rover w/ V-8? 91.

I think you'll find it runs just fine.

BTW, 91 octane fuel in America is the "premium" grade. Most cars sold today there are engineered and tuned to run on 89 octane.

I didn't understand half of that! But what i did understand was very helpful. thank you for some factual information at last :o

  4. Anything by kagagoogoo and 'the lion sleeps tonight' by tight fit

I agree, but we are getting to the "slit your wrists and end it now" ,bottom of the barrel....

The next level downward must be the Bay City Rollers !

Bye bye baby, baby bye bye, (bye bye baaabyyy), what classic lyrics :D

What about Green door by shakin' stevens :o

  5. TBGW, can i suggest that you save your drinking for after the ride? I am not allowed to drink during a ride, big boss woman she say no. Not for the same reasons as you though, I get a little too brave with a beer inside me and then try to ride off of/on to/through something that would generally require someone to have a scuicidal disposition!

  6. looks good, could I ask how much it cost? you can tell me to mind my own business if you want I won't be offended.

Why would i be offended? Silly to recommend something but keep shtum about the cost! :o

It was quite expensive, 150,000 baht but 60% of that was the costs of the cabinets, (solid beech).

If you look at my (crappy) website you can see the process. Sorry it misses out the completed job but i'll update when i escape from the desert.

if you want to know any more, just ask

  7. Who's making the grub for you guys out there. I'm a chef with alot experience cooking for the masses and doing fine dining too. I play with the idea of a commuter job like you guys - a few weeks/ months on, a few weeks/months off. Might be a nice way to travel and get me some real money to play with when back here in CM. Who would I contact ?

Do they take care of you well with resp to food ? I imagine they would want the Westerners happy with plenty of familiar fare.

The cooks here are predominantly from bangladesh and india although on my current rig i eat in the chinese galley with a chinese cook. I am sure someone with your experience would be welcome with open arms but i guess you would have to work the same schedule as the cooks currently working here.

They work approximatley 2 - 3 years and then get 1-2 months off, i think their salary is about $2 - $3 per day.

Send me your CV and i'll see what i can do.

  8. Sorry if this is the wrong forum but if you don't live in Issan it's of no use to you!

I have just had a kitchen fitted in my house and i think it looks pretty neat.

If you live in North West Issan and need a new kitchen i can recommend these guys. As long as you don't expect them to work quickly!

    Nidge,

Just curious, did the guys make the cabinets our did you purchase them separately? They look very much like the ones I am going to install in my place.

The cabinets were purchased by the company the fitted, not by me. They are branded Kitchco or something like that, (i'm not at home so i can't check). If you have bought them i think you made a good choice, they appear to be very good quality.

  9. my friend worksfor precesion drilling you know of that company? he as i understood does the horizental drilling part or soemthing like that.

Best to get your friend to take your CV. I know precision drilling, they do similar work to me. Good luck

  10. Thanks for the replies guys. I thought this thread had sunk without trace although I was hopeful that someone might be inspired by Le Tour and want to get out.

Yes I agree with you both about the mountain bike being of more use here. I've got a Trek purchased from Probike in bkk. Chaiyaphum and Udon are not too far away. If you've got some interesting rides I can easily throw the bike in the truck and arrange a meet somewhere.

Nidge, is the KK bike shop near the big Nissan showroom opposite(ish) the university hospital on the Udon road? If it is I discovered it by chance recently. Only had a quick look but they had some pretty upmarket group sets, forks and stuff there. Lots of servicing going on outside - no English spoken on my visit.

Most of my trips have been on road and tracks. I'm looking for a set of semi slick tyres to replace the Bontrager off road things that came with the bike. Have you seen anything decent on your travels?

I don't have any specific trails but i normally ride with a garmin gps and plot the ride on google earth. One day i will start making maps so i can dish them out if anyone rides near me.

As for semi slicks, try maxxis wormdrive. They are great and i often use them even when muddy. I bought mine in Siam bikes, pattanakarn road, BKK but i am sure you can get them else where.

I have not been to the KK bike shop yet but i plan to take a drive up there one afternoon next month. For sure you found the right one, there is not going to be 2 bikeshops in the same place that both sell 'real' bikes!

  11. A dietician would tell you that adding insects to your diet is smarter than you might think.

They're high protein, virtually fat free and cost free.

    Ask any aardvaark or pangolin.

that is the most ridiculous post i have ever seen on this forum, asking a pangolin is fine, but have you ever tried to get a straight answer out of an aardvark? I think not! :o

  12. i lost 20 kg living in thailand. Mostly due to drinking less beer, eating only thai food and cycling a lot more.

A am lost on the "doesn't seem to be too heavy on fat" bit. when a pigs head or 2 is offered at the temple it is then brought back home, (minus an ear), and barbecued. The family then devour every part of the face. To me it looks like 70% fat, 20% skin and maybe 10% meat. when a pig or cow is slaughtered the whole thing is eaten and the villigers think i am odd because i don't eat the fat. But they all work a lot harder than i do so i guess they burn off all this extra energy with ease.

  13. why possibly block a geography game?.......maybe their afraid people might learn that there are nations in the world with freedom of speech.

You would not believe what sites get blocked on my server. Games is a blocked category. A mate tried to check 'signs of the zodiac' it was blocked with a message like this..." category- occult and other religions - blocked on this server"

I tried to download a "little britain" clip and it was blocked as pornography!

  14. I tried installing Red Hat or Fedora Linux, (at least i think it was one of them), a couple of years ago. The installation was easy and it looked ok but i could not get my sound card or video to work. I got fed up after a couple of hours of blind trouble shooting, (no internet connection at the time), and so went back to windows. Now i use OS X and it's awesome. I never get annoyed seeing all the posts about windows issues, just that cosy "ready brek kid" feeling. :o
