  1. i might buy this bar. it seems to be pretty interesting. haven't even herd the name yet and it has a 2 page forum on here. this bar promotes itself. just would like to know what is the bar and where it is so i cna pop open my breif case.

hope my jackin a box still works

It's already been bought by a Thai lady!!!!!!!

  2. Honestly, if you haven't lived on Koh Phangan, and clearly you haven't or you would have grasped that my answer "there is no ring road on Koh Phangan" was a direct answer when considering the OP "However I see that in the Bangkok Post last Thursday there is an article announcing a major upgrade to the road network and that all the "major" points on the island will be interlinked by a network 73 Kms long" then perhaps it would be best if you learn a bit more about the island before making statements about it to those who do. Or, retreat to a Samui thread where you know what you are talking about.

We are in a bad mood today, aren't we?

  3. My bar is right next to the Jewish center and we were open again 3 days after the flood. When the water started to rise in the road, we were there all night moving everything that could be damaged. Fridges and pool tables excepted. We took rooms in the hotel opposite and moved as much as we could there. I did not see one person at the Jewish center at all. No one did anything so I am not surprised their stuff is ruined....

  4. Will we ever see the good old days like 4or5 years ago, back here.

And please don,t mention the high prices of bkk airline

Good old days 4- 5 years ago, were still the aftermath of the tsunami. They are not a benchmark to be used as some people have done, or base your calculations upon.

To really compare apples with apples, you have to go to the previous year & base your growth figures on that & not the extraordinary period.

Again look at the effects of that particular short boom, many more bars , restaurants & hotels, all thinking that boom will be maintained.

I think the market here in general is back to where it should be. Unfortunately many outside factors over the last couple of years, just to mention a couple , world economic crises, political unrest , last but not least the position of the Baht have contributed to a further slowdown.

Again watching that program on TAN network, they interviewed the president of The Samui Tourism Association. He basically stated that now, is the low season & operators & traders are aware of that.

But where at this time of year hotel occupancy is 40 to 50 %, it's down to 20%.

To sum up, Samui is not the only place in Thailand, suffering a downturn or slowdown. Is there going to be better times? Sure there will be, just have to tough it up I suppose & try to ride it out.People with innovative ideas, fairly well established & financially sound, tend to weather the storms a lot better .

There will be casualties & when the better times arrive, it will start all over again :) new this & that etc..... Tough business the tourism industry.

Good post Rooo! Succinct and accurate! I hope next month we get a reasonable start to the high season. My place has been closed and wet most of this month! I need some cash!!!!!
