  1. " heard last night of a customer paying 550 pounds for a Thai Airways flight LHR-CHM return. That works out at about 30,000 baht which isn't bad."

From London Heathrow to Chimbote, Peru for 550 pounds, that's certainly a good deal. But you still have to add the fare from Chiang Mai to LHR. So Peru seems to be a quite expensive destination, at least if you start from Thailand.

It might be cheaper to fly via USA instead via the UK.

  2. In the may edition of "City Life" there is an article about " Burma and Thailand's relationship through the centuries".

    There I've found this statement:

"...I would rather my daughter married a farang than a Burmese. I was told by one mother sounding as though she was speaking of the lesser of two evils..."

Good to know, that a farang husband is not the worst, what could happen to a Thai woman.

  3. I'm so shocked reading this thread. It's probably the most disgusting stuff I read for many months. Absolultly no compassion, no sympathy for this poor woman. What kind of woman and thai haters are you?

I seldom read such a contempt of thai women. Why don't you go back to the F*cking Kingdom of Great Britain, where most of you probalbly come from?

  4. What I don't understand in this case. Why did this guy fly to Germany to go to the police. He could have had the same much cheaper in Chiang Mai. Why to spend so much money for an air ticket? Every tuk tuk driver would have droven him for THB 50 to the next police station.

  5. @ElJefe

Before you start to insult posters, better try first to get proper information.

If you want to, I can send you a PM to explain you what's the difference between international and domestic flights.

I don't know the past but in future Korean Air is flying B737-800 from CNX to ICN:

  6. It's now quite obvious that only this international flights leave from Chiang Mai:

    SIN (Silk Air)

    KUL (Air Asia)

    TPE (China Airlines)

    LPQ (Lao Airlines)

    ICN (Korean Air)

Since the flights to Taipeh and Seoul don't leave daily, it's at most 4 flights a day!! And all of them are narrowbody planes.

I think the existing international terminal has enough capacity to handle that.

  7. "Why would CM need another airport when the current facilty is no where near capacity? "

    Well said.

At least the international flights are getting less by the month. As far as I know only these destinations are left:

    SIN (Silk Air)

    KUL (Air Asia)

    TPE (China Airlines)

    LPQ (Lao Airlines)

  8. @sam

"Don't like it, fly full service airlines. "

Sam, you've got it. That's the only way to see this topic. There are obviously people, who are trying to eat an egg without breaking it.

To talk again about the first post of the OP. As it seems now, all the inconvenience of that handicapped passenger was most likely his fault, because he did not carefully read the web site of Air Asia. Their web site said exactly, what to do in such cases.

  9. @Gonzo

When you book a flight with Air Asia you have to tick the box below. And then the following Text is shown. You've probably overseen that, because the default value is "No".

    ________________________________________________________________________________

Do you have any special needs? Yes No

Please contact the call centre 48 hours before flight departure if you require assistance. AirAsia can carry only a maximum of 8 guests per flight who have reduced mobility* provided that quadraplegic guests are limited to not more than 4 per flight. Under certain circumstances we may require the guest to travel with a companion.

    * 'reduced mobility' refers to paraplegic or quadriplegic guests.

Failure to notify us of assistance needed will result in the service being unavailable upon your arrival at the airport and you being refused carriage. For health and safety reasons guests with specific requirements must check-in at the airport.

  10. I wonder, why someone living in Thailand is even considering to eat filipino food. It's probably the worst and blandest food in Asia.

I know what I'm talking about. I had a filipina wife and I've been there many times.

  11. I don't know what's your problem Mapguy?

A lot of people like to eat bread and have the problem, how to keep the bread fresh the next day. At the moment this might not be a big problem, but usually with the climate here - the heat and the high humidity- bread gets very fast stale.

So it's certainly a legitimate question to ask, what we can do about it.

  12. "China Air from Chiang Mai to Amsterdam "

There are no flights from CNX to Amsterdam. China Airlines are flying to Taipei from here. But from there you might take as well a flight directly to London. But it's a long journey.

Concerning travel agencies here: I've heard Mau Tours are the "cheapest". :o

As I could see today, they still are in business.

  13. A few minutes ago I've seen the place, where the new Miguel will be. It's ideed at Plaza 89, but not the side where Tesco Express and 7/11 are located. It's at the opposite side of the road next to the bike shop there. And as the banner said, it will not be just a restaurant but a bar as well with a pool table.

They already can count me in as a regular customer. :o

  14. I don't think Plaza 89 is such a bad location. First it got ample parking space, und it's right on the busy Chiang Mai - Lamphoon Road. There is a lot of Moo Bans on both sides of this road with a lot of farangs living there. I'm sure quite a lot will be happy to have a nice restaurant nearby, without having to drive into town.

  15. @greenside

where in Nong Hoi is it? Since I live in Nong Hoi ("A Home In Town"), too. It would be great to have a nice place to eat, without having to travel into downtown Chiang Mai.

By the way I tried the "Taste of Texas" a couple of times, since it's located in a walking distance, but I can't recommend it. Not very tasty and no good value for the money.

  16. The people, who run Sakae Sushi must have a lot of money. The branch at Big C is a big flop. I wonder when I ever saw a customer there. So obviously they have to open a new branch.

I tried them once, when they were still at the Central Kad Suan Kaew. I think Fuji is better and cheaper.

  17. At the Panthip Plaza or similar places one can get almost every software at a very low price, most likely copies without permission. I'm quite sure Autocad is available, too.

But the problem might be the handling of this software. Without experience or training it might be difficult to obtain any usable results.
