  1. Again, stop with all this "moving" to other positions bullshit . . . if they broke the law or did something wrong, sack them and deny them their pensions.

Moving people to "inactive posts" does nothing at all to dissuade people from doing things illegally, it's the equivalent of a very soft slap on the wrist and told you've been a bad boy. Pathetic.

Even in Thailand corrupt officials have a right to "assumption of innocence" while their case is being investigated.

Suspended from duties or moved to an inactive post is the correct and fair thing to do.

But it is now on the NCPO to properly investigate and prosecute of warranted. That's when I will believe they are being fair dinkum.

  2. I've listen to homophobes in interviews say they wouldn't want a gay couple living next door because it would "ruin the family" but they have never been more specific. I have often wondered how their family would be ruined.

Thai provinces affected by typhoon Rammasun

    By Digital Content

BUENG KAN, July 16 -- Typhoon Rammasun is impacting many provinces in the Thailand's Northeast, while the South is facing heavy rains and big waves.

In the Northeast, persistent rains have quickly raised the level of the Mekong River in Bueng Kan province.

Elsewhere in the Northeast, in Buri Ram province, local authorities warned of heavy rains, flash foods, landslides and runoffs in four districts.

In Sakon Nakhon, officials opened three sluice gates in the center of the province to accelerate drainage from Nong Han Lake into the Mekong River to prevent flooding in the Nong Han community and local farmland but the drainage is slow due to the high level of the river.

In the South, runoff hit restaurants and homes near the Krabi Yai Canal in Krabi province late last night. Local residents have been warned of possible flash floods and runoff in the next few days due to persistent rains.

In Trang province, a seaside road in Koh Sukorn subdistrict of Palian district was damaged at about 10 locations and the subdistrict was declared a disaster-stricken area. (MCOT online news)

  4. I read a lot from religious homophobes about the "gay agenda", but I have never seen one published. So maybe we should start one up.

I'll put up the first ... over to you ... serious and creative suggestions welcome

  5. Good point, it's easy to miss the obvious sometimes. I'm gay so yes I would prefer someone with a similar background, for social reasons, but I don't discriminate, any age, gender or sexual orientation welcome.

Perhaps I should add that I also enjoy an evening ritual of sitting in the boats cockpit with a can of beer watching the sun set over the water.

  6. Came through Nong Khai a week ago on 60 day double entry tourist visa without any issues. But my passport is full of back to back 14 day visa exempt stamps because I actually live in vientiane and do visa runs into Thailand once a month. Us Laos expats are nervously waiting for the August deadline to see what it means for us.

Did you get the visa in Vientiane? What documentation did they require- specifically did they require any evidence of flights in and out of Thailand or a bank statement?.

Yes, came thro VTE. No extra documentation needed for a tourist visa and none asked for.

Curiously, a couple of months back when the stricter enforcement was first announced the Immigration officer at the Bridge for the first time in ten years asked me why I was going into Nong Khai so many times. I told the truth, that I was actually on a visa run "from Laos" and I usually go back the same day or I stay a few days to do some shopping. The dates on the stamps showed this, he gave a grunt and passed me.

  8. Ihave just done a quick calculation on doing aTT of 4000 AUD worth of baht. from my Aust bank into my Thai bank vs sending 4000 AUD.

The difference was nearly 200 AUD in exch. rates and charges.

    Screw Aussie banks.

no wonder they are the most profitable in the world, and sailed thro' the GFC.

But I will still keep my shares in them,

  9. I'm in Phuket for the next couple of months (july - sept) and need an occasional deckhand / field assistand on my Bavaria 37.

Someone with some sailing experience, an interest in photography, botany and to explore the coastal mangroves around Phang Nga prefered but not essential.

Suit local Phuket expat or Thai.

    PM to me
