  1. So Pattaya police receive daily reports of Jet-ski Scams - but only take notice when, for a few days, there are no such reports.

Plus : "They mentioned that most cases that did reach Pattaya Police Station were hard to resolve and Police would refer most cases to the Court."

We all know that the legal process via Courts in Thailand can take months or even longer - what hope does a Tourist on a few weeks holiday have to get his case resolved if the Police simply pass it up to the Courts and do nothing immediate themselves?

    Patrick

Instead of police trying to arbitrate maybe a special fast track tribunal is the way to go.

  2. Has it ever occured to the lifeguards that tourists don't have clue what the flags mean?

The beach flag system used by the Phuket life guards conforms to International standards.

    The problems are

    1. Tourists who leave their brains at home

    And

    2. Alcohol

    Solution ?

Give the lifeguards power to have drunks and idiots removed from the beach!

It makes no difference if they do not understand the international standard but this is understood more widely

  3. I would imagine if you asked the same poll in a Chinese forum, or Russian forum, your answers would be quite different.

Quite biased to be asking an English newspaper who they prefer to work with.

Here we go, the excuses are rolling out thick and fast. Suggest you go to downtown Jomtien and sound out the struggling businesses. It's reality, nothing to do with who is polled.

Sorry the results have everything to do with who was polled.

  4. This poll reflects the attitude of the demographics of the PN.

In other words the predominately English speaking western European tourist and expat readership of the PN prefers English speaking / European tourists rather than Chinese or Russian tourists.Surprise, surprise.

It says nothing about what the Thai tourism industry prefers.

Let me make a prediction. If the poll had been published on a Russian or Chinese language site then I dare say the figures would be reversed.

  5. The hi-so Generals pontificating in their luxurious officers residences probably thought only a modest number of beer shops run by ordinary powerless and Voiceless Thai would be involved.

They clearly didn't realise that their was a much larger industry involving elite Thai interests being caught up in the net.

  6. No surprises there then ! FIRE ! er no, Fire !, no let's just have a look, Fire ! , no, well let's go find a farang to do the firing then ........ Good idea, then we can blame it on them....... I hope to god that the Thai military never have to fight...... Far better put the LBs out of Nana up front........... Much more formidable army......

The Thai "negotiated" their way out of the only two modern wars that really threatened their independence.

They did a swap with the French giving them Cambodia and getting half of Laos in return. Then told the Japanese they could build a railway through to Burma in order to invade India as long as they were left alone.

    Thai are masters of diplomacy

  7. I am surprised that most people seem to only see and complain about speed or illegal turns.

It took some thirty comments before someone noted that the vehicle was not meant to carry a dozen or so kids with an open back and no seat belts .... how many cops that day and anytime must have seen this and did nothing.

And yes I know overcrowded vehicles and kids "hanging" off the back is common ... I see it everyday myself ....

  8. Can someone clarify what exactly is meant by "visa free".

Does it mean no fee to pay for the various types of visa. Surely it does not mean you do not need a visa at all. There must still be different types of visas with different conditions.

I assume it means you can get a visa on arrival at no cost. It's very ambiguous to call it visa free.

  9. should not be too difficult to locate a gang leader with a name/alais.as reported and as well known as this group seems to be.

even the rookie BIB should be able to find this eleusive fellow as the locals seem quite famaliar with the group and apparently pay them a few bob to stay off their hit list. the gang is probably drunk/dopped up, passed out from their ill gotten gains. they are probably in no condition to find a shade from the sun sop easy picking for the BIB.

Wasn't it under Taksin that lots of alleged drug pushers in Bangkok accidently got shot and died "resisting arrest".

Ooops sorry, I'm getting confused with the US.

It is a popular sport on Thaivisa to criticise Thai police, and deservedly so in many cases,, but we should realise that our own police forces are not squeaky clean either.

  10. Criminals can always get guns in virtually every country. I doubt that the sawed-off shotgun used in Sydney was legal.

The US has the world's 3rd largest population and a lot more of almost everything occurs there, including negative news.

The gun homicide rate per capita in the US is actually below the world average for countries even though gun ownership numbers are far above average. LINK

Your link takes you to a website called the "Crime Research Prevention Centre", which claims to publish "academic quality research" but is in fact a front for a pro-gun site founded and run by a noted conservative Fox News columnist. It is not a reputable or peer reviewed site for data.
