  1. As I understand things. House, land, car in Thailand belong to the boyfriend and are not part of your friends estate. The rest of his estate (cash, including cash in Thai bank, stocks and any non Thai property) are covered by British law. If you cannot find a will bequeathing these assets to the boyfriend then he is considered to have died intestate and they will be distributed according to UK law since he is still a UK citizen. I am not familiar with intestate rules in the UK by I expect the thai bf can submit a claim. If there are surviving relatives somewhere then they can contest his claim. Then it goes to Court and the lawyers get most of the money leaving a little bit left over for which ever side wins.

I can understand you and the bf's need to find a will.

If he is able to present evidence it was a genuine domestic partnership I think his case is strong., but you will need documentation at lots of it.

If your time is limited then you need photographs, videos, stat decs from friends and families, joint bank accpunt if they had one tto present to the probate court.

  2. If you are on a retirement visa you are not allowed to work, but you are required to have an income from your home country, as far as I am aware there are no conditions about how that income is derived ..... is this a contradiction in the rules Hmmmm!!!!!

BTW ,,, even if the same question or answer is raised by newbies multiple times I dont think it is necessary to criticise them or be condescending, We are all newbies at sometime and their questions are sincere and should be treated with respect.

  3. They could be trying to set you up for something and then again they could have a reasonable excuse like just having a record for convenience. Remember Thailand doesn't have the same tradition of protecting civil liberties like we in the west have. They may see their demand/request as nothing out of the ordinary.
But still, I agree, dont give them anything on the spot but get their names/number and take a copy around to the station to give to them. Also perhaps see if you can get them to sign a copy that you keep.

  4. Sorry to disagree about the freezing thing, I'm a biologist and while it is true many bugs will be killed by freezing, it is equally true that many happily survive. I dont know about this particular bug. Also the moisture in the wood freezing and expanding is also a very real issue and could damage the chest.
However, wrapping it in a big sheet of plastic and letting off an insect "bomb" inside the bag is a very good idea. You should leave it wrapped up for several days just to make sure and yes do it outside. Insect bombs are generally available from 7/11 shops or Home mart shops.

  5. No I don't have them.

Because I think I'm too old and they would make me seem like a silly old fool trying to pretend he wasn't getting old.

The first time I came across them I thought there was something wrong with his thingy. But when I found out what they were I thought it looked nice on him.

And being on the receiving end of someone with them is kinda sexy.

  6. Screening is discriminatory but it is also a most sensible precautionary measure. As a gay man I no more want to receive infected blood than to unknowingly donate any just because it is my "right".

Because of the latency period testing the donation can still produce false negatives.

However, there is no need to ban donations from anyone with a risky sexual history. I believe in Australia and most countries that screen donations the blood is still accepted and can be used to extract other useful blood products.

  7. I've had several partners with these ornaments and they weren't from rich backgrounds. I never thought to ask them where they got it done but I always assumed it was at the local tattoo cum piercing shop or self administered. It's not a big deal. It just needs a little nick with a razor. The shaft of your penis has very few pain receptors. Try pinching the skin there if you don't believe me.

  8. I hare looked at buying several times and each time decided against it.

The reasons have all been given here already, but in summary

    1. It is really difficult to tell what the true market price is. Generally the price depends on the vendors opinion of theprospective buyer. (Is he a rich pigeon or a poor pensioner)

    2. Thais don't like to buy second hand apartments so the resale market is Much smaller.

    3. Thais are prepared to bargain but don't make them lose face by being overly critical of the price or condition and then offer a very low figure. Be apologetic and humble for your low offer.

One point not mentioned is building codes & other legal essentials are often not kosher' make sure everythingis legal and in order and then check again.

almost every week I read about another developer that has skipped through after a shady or illegal development.

  9. Did you ever ask to see a transcript of her exam results.

I help out a young Laos student on condition he sends me a copy of his results each semester.

Are you sure she really did use the money for fees.

I agree 30K baht is a hell of a lot for a student.

  10. Australia had an openly gay High Court judge from1996 to 2009 who rose to the countries second highest judicial office.

Although it was an open secret for most his career he officially came out in 1999 when he approved having his partner of thirty years listed in Who's Who. In 2002 he gave the keynote address at the opening of the international Gay Games.

  11. Someone said marriage was a religious thing. This is only partially correct.

Marriage was all about inheritance issues for the ruling and wealthy classes. It was vitally important to them to have a clearly defined set of rules as to which descendants were legitimate and who were illegitimate and could inherit their money, land and power. After all so many of them would have so called "illegitimate" children.

The poor or peasant class had little or no property, (or other rights) especially in the feudal middle ages, it was a non issue.

The church got involved because it would "bless" the wedding and kept all the legal documents as "parish records"

Hence the confusion between marriage as a religious sacrament and a property contact within and between families.

The last hundred years or so has seen the codification of these inheritance and property rights into statue law. We now have legal definitions of defacto marriages and have given inheritance rights to ex nuptial children in most liberal Western democracies. And most important government has centralised the record keeping into national registries.

So the role of the church in the definition and administration of births deaths and marriages has already been greatly diminished. It is therefore clinging desperately to its belief that marriage can only be defined within in its own religious framework.

What they don't understand is marriage is a right not a rite.

  12. I recently decided to have another mid life crisis. The last one was so much fun.

So I decided to buy myself a yacht to liveaboad and do some sailing around phuket.

However the yotting fraternity is very hetero. Are there any gay yotties out there that would like to do some cruising?

  13. I read somewhere that it is a requirement of the court system to have these photo's. Or maybe that's just the photo's of the victim pointing at the perp. Either way, we live in a county that is all about "face" and perception, little to do with truth or actual results, and this is a form of back patting for the cops ego's to be stroked a little.

How does a photo of the guns in the cop shop prove that they were found on the suspect. Thai police would never stack the evidence would they?
