Speaking of south of the border, we've all noticed that Pattaya burns through various demographics over the years. Sometimes they make comebacks but eventually the worm turns.

Brits, Americans, Scandanavians, Russians Russians Russians, Iranians, Arabs, Chinese and Indians.

Obviously Africans have future potential, but what about Mexicans!

    I'd love to see that.

The Mexicans must be favourite, as we all know from Trump, they'll pay for the whore wall.

Someone working in a hotel or guesthouse posted last year what details must be entered with the online notification of the arrival of foreign guests and I remember that they were a lot fewer than what is listed on page 2 of the TM.30 form.

I should think, though, that the passport number is essential with the online reporting but who knows, perhaps the ID card is good enough for immigration. Hopefully, somebody with firsthand experience with this will post a clarification.

In it's present form the pink ID cannot be any use to immigration, due to the name on the card being in Thai and immigration use your name in the Latin alphabet from your passport.

Now if only the pink ID card had the name in English and Thai, same as the Thai ID card does, then it might work.

As has already been said, transliteration from English to Thai is subjective and therefore cannot be translated back from Thai to English to see the original spelling accurately.

As an aside, when my stepson had his first Thai passport, his name was spelt in English, following his ID card name in English.

His first name is พลวัต (Polawat). The amphur translated it as Phonwat which makes it read in English nothing like his name in Thai.

We went to the ID card office in the amphur who fortunately were quite happy to change the English on his ID card to Polawat. When he renewed his passport, the new one reflected the new spelling as well.

I don't know how they handle it for those with permanent residency and therefore a Thai ID card?

They do not get a Thai ID card. They can only get the same pink ID card others can get.

    I stand corrected.

I always thought the same as you UJ, but read recently that someone with permanent residency could apply for a Thai ID card, (even though they're not Thai), so that must incorrect then.

My friend who has had permanent residency for forty years, was voluntarily told by the staff at the amphur he could apply for a Thai ID card too - he didn't request it himself.

The woman processing his 'Thai' ID card application was constantly told the system wouldn't accept the application, and she couldn't understand why.

I love my pink card. Also works at national parks, to help you get the Thai rate for entrance, hotels, etc. I never carry my passport, and never will. Have a color copy in my wallet. That is it. And my Thai licenses.

I thought very recently the government told the parks department they were to give the Thai price to Thai nationals only, irrespective of what card you may have.

The pink card does say 'ID for people without Thai nationality'.

I don't know how they handle it for those with permanent residency and therefore a Thai ID card?

    Dear Government

After the undoubted success of the Chim Shop Chai scheme, may I suggest that such a scheme is introduced for tourists. They could all be given a thousand baht note upon arrival which they could then spend. This would increase the amount spent by foreign tourists in Thailand, thereby making the figures produced by TAT and the Ministry of Tourism even better than they are now.

What a fantastic way to stimulate the growth in tourist numbers and expenditure.

    Yours sincerely

    MadMitch

Yeah, but being a 'foreign tourist', they wouldn't get a short-time for that amount.

Taught me a lesson a fool and his money are soon parted - at least I know it's real and bought at the rrp. Like another said the Lazada could be a copy !

The answer is at hand - Thai rubber pillows!

“This project aims to produce 30 million rubber pillows valued at Bt18 billion to distribute to poor people nationwide,”

Is that around 1,600 baht each?

Just how many coal-fired electric plants would be needed to supply the electricity to charge all these electric vehicles?  Wake up and smell the coffee!

If the industry got their act together then more solar cells could be used to charge the vehicles. I think I read about a plan to start doing this here at proposed new charging stations.

Then we could drink tea and not have to smell the coffee.

Ladies and gentlemen the last rocket to believable land leaves soon.

I am not sure, which is the most incredible...the Thai government nonsensical statements... or the supposedly intelligent expat response.

    Neither have any validity...

I wouldn't disagree. However, valid or not, it doesn't stop the alleged government making it up as they go along. Remember this:

The amphur i was using did the translation them self, No official translation was required ????

Yes, it's good when it's that straightforward.

Same rules, interpreted differently by different amphurs, different staff in the same amphur, same staff but on a different day, etc, etc.

Another example when there must have been an 'r' in the month.
