Obtained 1 year driving licence yesterday at Amnat Charoen transport office.

The day before got medical certificate from city doctor cost 30 baht.

Next day went to local Amphur office with thai wife and village headman. Amphur office gave me a certificate of residence, cost 100 baht.

Then went to transport office with wife and headman armed with above documents, including international driving licence, passport with visa, photo's and copies of all of the documents and signed each page. Had 30 second colour eye test and left with 1 year driving licence.

Bought headman 200 baht lunch

Been married to my Issan wife for two years with the majority of that time living in London where we had a nice clean apartment. Last month moved to wife's remote village in Isaan and i'm finding the standard of my wife's cleaning to be sub-standard. This is from the cooking area to general areas inside and outside too.

At present i'm finding this unacceptable and find myself constantly cleaning.

Do you think i'm being to picky?

thanks Sezzo, been to said shop and paid 3,990 B and they fitted same day. As you say good tv for the mrs but english channels very limited to a couple of Indian tourist, a couple of english music and russian tv.

I hope someone can help...............I've set up an offshore bank account with the interest being paid into the Nationwide Building Society annually. Can I complete inland revenue form R85 and get interest from Nationwide BS tax free?

Dear all..............i'm making the big step and moving to a remote farming village in deep Issan next month. My question is......... i'm currently in the UK now and trying to open an offshore bank account with Bank of Scotland. The bank is saying to me that they require a utlility bill in my name with my thai address. The place i'm moving to is a remote village and it's all in my wife's name.

Any ideas please how to get over this or are there other banks that are not so demanding

Are there any decent dentists in amnat charoen?

Also, i've been past the city hospital and i know i should'nt judge a book by it's cover, but anybody know what standard of health care is given here. And would there be much point in taking out very expensice health insurance in this area.
