  1. The mrs runs a village shop in a small village about 15km from the nearest ploice station. Today a policeman run up a drinks and food bill for over 300 baht and deceided not to pay. This amounts to 3 days profit for the shop. The mrs is well pi**ed off and wants to complain to the City cops. For me its peanuts but feel if nothing is said then the situation could repeat itself with other bent cops or if we do complain this could cause problems for us in the future. What would you do.............

  2. many thanks...............just been there today for my first extension to stay based on marriage. The boss is veryhelpful as you say and i go back next month. Documents i took were photo's of mrs and i inside and outside the house, 2 passport size photo's of me, 2 copies of passport-marriage cert-bank book-letter from bank confirming amount over last 60 days mrs id card-house book and map of where we live, plus the origionals. Took just under 3 hours and 1900 baht and the boss said we can expect a visit at our house within the next month. All in all very painless.

Are there any farang coffee shops/ places to eat as we could not find any................

  3. no pools i'm afraid. ive seen a sign post to a public pool on the road from amnat to ubon but never been. the hotel can help in bikes, they are very helpful. no candle festival here you have to go to ubon but you need to book an ubon hotel now if you want to stay there overnight, it gets very busy. good luck

  4. here a two decent hotels in the centre of amnat.............the best one is called faikid hotel (signs in city giving directions) good rooms and they do a nice dinner, the other hotel is called pj hotel. There are many resorts around amnat with small one room houses, the best one is hotline resort where accom is basic but clean and they do good food. You can find more info on the above if you google these names.

  5. Just spent one night at the Sunee Grand Hotel in Ubon Ratchathani, here are our impressions:-

The hotel is still under construction and this is clearly evident when you approach the hotel from the soi where it's located. The swimming pool, some ground floor outlets attached to the hotel and some outside public footpaths are not finished. Adjoining the hotel there is a shopping mall with 2 floors completed and other floors under construction When you enter the hotel lobby it's very plush with a large lobby area and comfy sofa's and easily on a par with any 4*+ hotels in Bangkok. Our room was upgraded automatically, I guess because the hotel is yet complete. The receptionist was friendly and efficient and we checked in smoothly. All areas inside the hotel we viewed were finished to a very high standard. The room itself was spacious, well designed and appointed and immaculately clean. The only criticism was that the large bathroom has no separate shower and while the bath was big, it felt it was made of very thin plastic when stepping inside to take a shower.

The rate (1500 baht) included free breakfast which was served (not buffet style) and was tasty enough.

The hotel was near empty and we only saw one other family in the hotel during that night.

All in all it was so much better than the Ubon International hotel which we find very dated and the last time we stayed, saw a rat the size of a cat darting across the floor at breakfast time.

Here are some pics of the room, enjoy whilst its still new and clean:-

  6. I'm on a multi entry o visa which ends in march next year. I have an option are to place 400,000 baht in a thai bank to enable to get me an extension of stay on a marriage visa.

All my money is in the UK and i'm thinking:-

    1) do i transfer the money in january while expecting the pound to remain weak.

    2) get another mutli entry o visa in KL as the thai baht may get weaker next year compared to the pound.

    What would you do.............

  7. I the UK i always suffered from hayfever every summer. Been in Isaan since January this year and for the last week i have all the signs of hayfever, itchy eyes and sneezing etc.

Is this the time for hayfever here..........

  8. Hi, we live in Isaan and our monthly electric bill is about 1,600b. From the bill itself we use only 300b of electric and the rest being standing charge. Anybody know why we are paying such a high standing charge? Typical Thailand there is no telephone number on the electric bill for us to call................any help would be great, thanks
