"I am now seriously considering moving in or near to Amnat Charoean within the next three to four months. Any help greatly appreciated. Not interested in bars or wild social nights. More concerned about day to day living and what if any, is the Farang inter connection bedtween local Farngs."
Here is a website for info on Amnatcharoen http://amnatcharoenthailand.blogspot.com/

For info on Ubon visit http://www.weloveubon.com. I can also recommend Phadaeng Mansions and the Manager of the place is also very helpful. Visit Peppers and speak to Andy and the other expats for more local info. Plenty of golf around if thats your thing.

I bought a Hoover from Big C which caught fire the first time it was used. Took it back next day and after 1 hour of explaining the problem with several staff members and then requesting the contact number of their HQ, i was reluctantly and begrudgingly given my money back.
I had a similar situation with a TV i bought at Tesco. They immediately apologised, gave me 500 baht compensation and full refund. Guess where i shop now...................

Terry is indeed a gentleman. Yes, he lives in Ban Na Mo Ma which is abount 15k west from Amnat. There are a few farangs here who mainly live in villages surrounding Amnat. Amant has yet to attract a Big C or Lotus with the nearest Big C in Yasothon which is twice the size of Amnat. If you need a base here for a while you can stay at the Fai kid hotel which is the best place in town. You should be able to get a AC room for 400baht per night but the do have suites there too.Good luck

True visions indeed have a very poor record for customer service. Last year i paid for the True visions gold TV package. They installed a secondhand box and remote which looked like they had been pulled from the rubbish bin. I was told that if i wanted a new one i would have to pay 500 baht. Also, i never receive the monthly TV magazine via the post. They claim the post service is at fault but when i explain i always get their monthly bill on time through the post they send the magazine which arrives half way through the month. This has been the situation for six months and after 20 plus emails nothing changes. I'm just waiting until the village gets decent internet at which time i will tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine.

Can I get a thai driving licence in a neighbouring province. The chap in charge of the province where I live refuses to give me a 5 year licence and for the past 3 years has only issued me a 1 year licence and I had to take the theory test 2 times..............

For the last two years i have got my car driving licence from my local province office. However, they only issue me a one year licence and will not issue me a five year licence. Can i go to a neighbouring province to get a five year licence? thanks

The province of Amnat Charoen has officially the least amount of tourists in Thailand.

Hi, I was browsing a leading TEFL company web site where they advised that a “Life experience degree” was acceptable in obtaining a work permit and teachers licence. Can someone confirm if this is right………..thnx

Hi, I was wondering if anybody that’s been divorced in Thailand could give me some advice about the sharing of assets. I’m from the UK and got married 3 ½ years ago in Thailand to a Thai lady. After the first year of marriage I sold my house in the UK and spent part of that money building a home and shop on her land in Thailand all in her name. The remainder of my money I put in an off shore savings account. Also I have about 400 000 baht in a thai bank for the visa requirements in my name.
Before we got married she bought a car on finance which she put down a deposit (don’t know how much) and I have been paying the monthly fee to the finance company for 3 ½ years. I just found out she has been committing adultery and before I start divorce proceedings would like to know if my money off shore is safe as well as the money in my thai bank. I understand I should receive half of the property in Thailand but not sure about the car. Any help would be much appreciated. If it looks like she may get half of my money in my thai bank or the off shore money I guess I will not divorce……I don’t know……Many thanks

If the wife commited adultery would the OP be able to get compensation from the third party? Maybe get a good lawyer is required...............Also, if you go outside thailand and get a non-o 1 year visa before the divorce, would the thai authorities cancel that or is there no need for them to see your passport upon divorce?

I have lived in a very remote village of 20 abodes for nearly 2 years. The nearest city is 30km away but has yet to attract a Lotus or Big C. The boredom factor is huge. Hobbies are the key and having a network of friends. Also, having your own place where you and your partner can't be disturbed is essential. I have started to take weekly trips to one of the main cities in Isaan just to keep sane. But ultimately it depends on who you share your life with and your own ability to adapt to the real Thai culture.

There is also a course in ubon city. From the main drag where Tesco is located take the road leading to the airport and turn into the thai raf base, just follow the road around till you see the course. Its a 9 hole and costs 200baht, the caddie is usually tiped at 100baht. The driving range is also just before the entrance to the airport and costs 20baht for a box..........happy golfing

We live i a remote village about 40k from the nearest city. There are no adsl/broadband or cable services near us, so the only option for western TV is to purchase satellite. The option it seems that is legal and without hassle is to go for UBC/true. There are no UBC/true shops in the city only one satellite shop that works in partnership with UBC/true. Their charge for the Gold package is 1,412.97B + vat a month - 1000B installation fee - 2000B deposit (Only refunded if i cancel the package after the first 6 months, non refundable if we cancel within the first 6 months). I only want to make sure the above is correct because i have screwed before in this country.
