  1. There is an already pre made package of Nam Tok spices made by LOBO. You can find it in many Asian supermarkets here in the states. I have tried it twice. Not the same, but maybe you can fix it up with Craig's recipe. I'm lucky enough to have a Thai place near me and the owners are from Chiangmai. I have to eat there every week to get my dose of Isan food. I'd eat it every day if my stomach would let me.

40 more days and I'll be back in Chiangmai at my favorite Isan restaurant behind the Montri Hotel.:jap:

  2. Oh yes, Israelis are the cheapest. I owned a guesthouse in Chiangmai and the Israelis from the Israeli guesthouse down the soi would come to my place to eat. They haggled for every Baht, be it water, tea and always yelling at the top of their lungs like we were their personal slaves. I finally had to put up a sign saying no Israelis allowed. I got s**t for it, but explained why and stood my ground. I assume even the owners of the other guesthouse wouldn't even serve his own kind.

  3. hel_l, I can't even get a visa for my Thai wife so we can visit the states for a vacation. Why do we need an American Consulate or Embassy for the public if they won't provide any service? On another note. If anyone needs free health care, go to the U.S. You'll get that, a monthly check, free housing and education. You just can't be American though. You have to be an illegal immigrant.

    Go figure.

  4. Closed! Wow. Last time I spoke with him he had a waiting list. Although he could of told me that to rush me to rent a space. I think it was from lack of advertising. He said he was just going by word of mouth when I asked where he places his ads. Too bad. I always see about people writing to TV asking about storage places to rent. I don't know about renting an apartment, as the management knows your going to be gone for awhile and might use the opportunity to take a look inside, take something and blame it on a "Third Hand". They will of course assume no responsibility.

  5. There is one company in Hang Dong that just opened this year. Run by a Brit. I just threw away the number a few days ago so I dug through my trash bin and found it. The number is 08-01219891. He said they go for 1,000 Baht a month.

    Hope you find something.

  6. Hi Matt, there is also a German fellow, Rheinhard Heckel who makes them. He is hard to find though as he is always on the go on his motorbike. He had a falling out with his mentor from Elephant Lightfoot years ago and struck out on his own. If you cannot find him, I have 3 Saxophones left as of today. I import them to the U.S. for sale and am currently getting rid of my import stock to come to Chiangmai permanently. Below are photos of the Saxophone and the carrying case. It also comes with an adjustable reed, instructions for the reed and a complete history of the making of the instrument as well as backround information on Rheinhard. If you cannot find anything there I may be able to help you.

  7. There are 2 right in the city that I know of. One is on the south end of Kotchasarn Road just past D.K. bookstore and the shops just after that. You'll have to look closely and drive slow or you will pass the entrance. Nice people and they will cut the wood for you.

Also, go over the Nawarat Bridge (Thapae Road) out of the city and there is one on the left side a few blocks down. (Charoen Maung Road) A Bigger one. Once again, drive slow or you will pass it, as I did.

Yet another is down the Doi Saket Kao Road. Go over the Rama IX Bridge out toward the superhighway. When you come to the end. (You'll see a temple in front of you) Turn left and bear to the right till you come to a Y. I' am pretty sure you make a right and it is right around the corner on the left.

If anyone can give more specific directions, please do.

    Hope this helps.

  8. I just tried to book a flight with EVA Airways from L.A. to Bangkok in the middle of July and the price was up 30%. You also have to use 12,000 air miles to get the "Special" deal. I just flew a few months ago during high season and the price was way less. I see this trend all the time with EVA. Expensive during low season and cheapest during high season. You would think that with whats going on in Thailand and it is entering the hot season soon and the Baht as strong as it is, all airlines would be lowering fares to Thailand. I checked other airlines as well. Same thing. What gives?
