  1. I saw a bunch of them for sale at the Tree and Plant Expo a few months ago at the Agro Center, They must be around C.M. somewhere. Didn't get the prices though. Should have, as I need one now.

  2. Hi Winnie, I'm in Denver right now and I'll be back in C.M. at the end of the month and bringing back some of that Sriracha Sauce for my own kitchen. If you like, I can probably fit in a bottle or two for you and meet up somewhere in town, You can p.m. me if your interested.

  3. The castle near the Holiday Inn was intended to be a Guesthouse. I talked to the owner years ago when it was first being built and got a tour of the inside. While impressive on the outside, the owner got dismayed as the workers he let live in the place while being built trashed the place and he ran out of money. So he tried to rent it out for 50,000 Baht a month. Since it wasn't cleaned up to show potential renters, it's been sitting there empty ever since I think. I entertained the idea of renting it, but being in a Muslim neighborhood I decided against it.

  4. Although not dodgy, I would stay away from Chiangmai Land as it is prone to lots of flooding. Believe me. I have first hand experience. After a major flood years ago and being told by Taksin there would be no more floods there, we had 2 more large floods within a month. Needless to say, me and about a quarter of the other residents moved out. So make sure you don't move to any area that gets a lot of water runoff.

  5. No worries. This happened to me a couple months ago. I nearly crapped my pants when my wife noticed it the morning I was to fly out of Bangkok. When I flew down to Swampy and went through immigration, I explained to the officer the mistake and he alerted another officer who took me to a desk and straightened it out, all the while profusely apologizing, saying the staff are so overworked, sometimes they can't see straight. Don't worry about it.

  6. I just had a bee hive drop on my shoulder yesterday while sawing branches off a tree. I keep telling myself to check out the trees first, before cutting anything, but never do remember. I also brushed up against a couple colonies of red ants. It must have been my lucky day as I got away without any stings. I just had a hernia operation a few weeks ago and I still must have set a world record sprint when the hive fell on me, screaming like a little school girl the whole time. The wife's family were visiting and had a good laugh as I was told these variety of bees are very docile. One of them went straight up to the hive to get it and never got stung, even with hundreds of bees swirling about, My wife said we were fortunate to not have your kind bees. I know this doesn't help, but I had to tell this to someone. Good luck with your bee problem.

  7. I knew him as Snitch on the Chiang Mai Hash House Harriers long ago, while he owned the Escape Bar with Eddie near the old Las Vegas venue. Quite the character. You will be missed buddy.

  8. I just got back in town and decided to go there for my first dinner out with the wife and friends. I was really suprised to see two groups of friends there that I have not seen in a long time. We decided to sit together and had them put the tables together so we could catch up on things. There were 13 of us in all I think. The food came quickly enough and the food servers were very attentive. I had the Chicken Livers with onions and the wife had Smoked Salmon and a Greek Salad. No complaints here. The rest of the group had nothing but compliments. We even got a round of drinks on the house. How many restaurants do that? Remember, every business goes through growing pains in the beginning. It's nice having another choice of eateries in the area I think. Haven't tried Yummy Pizza yet, but will give that a try next week. Looks quite big inside as well. As for the men's room complaint, I think I just spent too much time in the bar beer centers years ago to worry about shyness. drunk.gif

  9. I'm 55 and hopefully will live a lot longer seeing that my grandmothers were 93, 103, 105 and 106 when they passed. They oldest 3 used to talk to each other in the nursing home but had no idea they were sisters. Their minds started going after 90. My fathers side lived into their 80's. I'm hoping I make it mind wise till then. And if I can still manage, take the Big Swim as I call it and do as the ancient Greeks did and just walk into the ocean. The missus say's I'll get wacked on the road before that happens. On a brighter note, a friend of mine here is 90 and he still drives himself around Chiangmai without a problem and is still very alert. and goes dancing.

  10. We make sure our dogs only respond to English. They don't take kindly to people speaking other languages. They act agressively if you do and act like your best friend if you speak in English. Maybe this helps. Anyway, our land is protected like a prison yard with walls and barbed wire. Too many late night strollers around the village looking for frogs and such. Nothing gets in or out without us knowing about it. Paranoid maybe, but better safe than sorry. Especially since our fat old Lab looks more like a pig than a dog.

  11. “We have carefully selected the tourist attractions [for them to visit] to make sure we portray our province in the most beautiful way,”

Oh sure, you don't want them seeing what the real Phuket is like. Getting abused by the tuk-tuk drivers, beaten or robbed like the regular tourists. I like how she didn't mention jet skiing. I guess even she couldn't offer them protection.

  12. The poster above has a link to a site that you can click on the left sidebar on workshops. My wife and I went to the one on Koh Phangan last year for a weekend, Well worth the money and a lot of fun. julienne, Hubert and Abby were great teachers and we learned a lot. The only problem most students had was smoothing out the cement on the walls. But that's to be expected. You can always call in a pro to do that part. I built some walls for a garden at our house in Chiang Mai using earthbags. You have to make a few tools yourself that they don't sell in Thailand, but that is easy to do. it's all quite cheap. We will be building our next house using earthbags sometime next year. If you need anymore information you can p.m. me.

  13. I make jerky up in Chiangmai, I have dehydrators and jerky guns which can make either round stick style like Slim Jims or regular flat pieces. I won't be back to Chiangmai for a bit though, as I'm on a business trip, but if you P.M. me I can get your address and send you some free samples. They're all custom ordered, so I can make them with any flavour and as spicy as you want.

  14. The Hash Bar on Moonmuang Road closed down a couple years ago. It is now located across from the Imperial Maeping Hotel. They Have the schedule in the bar and the mixed Hashes get picked from there on Saturday and Sunday. The Male only runs are on every other Monday and Tuesday and are picked up at the Next Place Bar across from Thapae Gate and left of Black Canyon. They have the schedule for all runs as well. You can walk, run or just sit and drink if you like. Food afterwards.
