  1. My wife is setup as the primary account holder on our Kasikorn bank, but it doesn’t matter. Joint account = No online access.
  2. Our BKK Bank accounts are set up with notification. We get a notice of any activity on the account. Even if we just login to the account online they will send us a notice to let us know someone logged into the account. As far as setting that up with Kasikorn bank, if we can’t even access the account online on the computer or with a phone app, the account is pretty much useless to us anyway, so we won’t even bother.
  3. Thanks. I just noticed my BKK Bank Debit card does not have a name on it either. All our Debit cards from the U.S. have our names on them, and of coarse all accounts (joint) have online access and phone apps for both of us. Also, with U.S. joint accounts, if one person passes away, all funds in the account go to the other account holder. No court/probate needed.
  4. Thanks to everyone that took the time to respond to my post. I’ve been very busy so it’s taken me awhile to get back to the post. A bank account with no online access. Never even occurred to me. Especially since single person accounts can and joint accounts cannot? No need for me to question the reasoning. I take it for what it is and move forward. Both my wife and I have had BKK Bank accounts for a long time, and of coarse we both have online access both on the computer and through the app on our phones. We just wanted to open additional accounts at a different bank just to have as a backup. Since we already have the joint account, hopefully opening single-person accounts at the same bank and branch will go smoothly. We’ll see about that. Once we have single accounts we will most likely just close the joint account. Don’t see any point in keeping it. Like I mentioned in the OP, opening the account was time consuming, but easy. They didn’t even ask for any letter/notice from immigration certifying my address. I just showed them my passport and Thai drivers license and it was just a matter of waiting while they input all the info. “Sign here” and done.
  5. I pretty much just use the Safari browser. Some Kasikorn pages will load in ‘EN’. Some will not. Thanks. Once we single-person accounts we will give K BIZ a try. I just checked my old BKK Bank ATM card and it does not have a name on it either. I never noticed since I haven’t been using it.
  6. Just opened a joint savings account with my wife at Kasikorn Bank. Easy to do, it just took a very long time for them to complete the paperwork. After all was complete and done, I asked if both my wife and I could use the Kasikorn phone app on our phones, and the reply was no. Not both of us, and not one of us. They also told me that we cannot create an online account on my computer. I asked how we were supposed to monitor our account and we were told that we could either go to an ATM machine or go into a Kasikorn bank. We told Them that we need to monitor when funds arrive from U.S. when we do transfers and they told us the only way to know if and when the funds arrive in our account is to go to the ATM or at the counter in the bank. I find it very hard to believe they don’t allow online access, and we are not going to get in the car and drive to an ATM machine just to take a look at our account. They then told us that if we want online access or to use the app on our phones, we need to open additional accounts with one name only on the account. Joint accounts, no access. I checked the app store and see there is a ‘K Plus’ app, but it appears to be only in Thai. ( We need English). I did go online to the website, just to check if it would allow me to register, but it gives multiple choices that do no appear to be regular savings accounts. When I go to the Kasikorn home page online and hover over ‘Login’, the choices are ‘K Biz’, ‘K-Cyber Invest’, ‘K-Cyber Trade’, and ‘K-Corporate Connect’. We are not a business, or corporation and are not investing/trading. It’s just a personal savings account. We also took a look at ‘Digital Banking’ > ‘K Plus’, on the Kasikorn website, but the page is only in Thai. I’ve toggled the switch from ‘TH’ to ‘EN’, but it remains in Thai. Oh, and even though it is a joint account, they would only issue us one ATM card. It wasn’t until after we left the bank that I realized the ATM card has no names on it, front or back, and on the front under the ‘VISA’ logo, it says ‘Business Debit’, but our account is just a basic Savings Deposit Account. The bankbook says “Savings Deposit Passbook’. I know many Expats use Kasikorn bank. So what’s up with this?
  7. Can you just go online to your account and change the mailing address, leaving the physical address as is?
  8. Try this surf shop in Chalong, Phuket https://www.freedomboardsports.com/
  9. Was that using “PromptPay” on the BKK bank Bualuang app where it shows the recipient?
  10. You have a point. When I went in to get my Thai drivers license I had to prove I could use the apps on my phone (while driving) before they would issue my drivers license. ????
  11. Thanks. I didn't realize there was a 'favorites' that you could save recipients to in the app.
  12. Which is why I started this post. ????
  13. We ordered a new vehicle a while back and are waiting for delivery. We will be buying this vehicle for “cash”. No payments. I’ve never purchased a car in Thailand before. When buying a new car for ‘cash’ at a dealership, do you need to actually pay physical cash, or can you transfer funds to the dealership? Can you go into your bank and have them do a transfer of funds to the dealership? Can the bank make out a check to the dealership? Or do you do a transfer using the banks app on your phone? I’m not comfortable carrying around that much cash money. Even if it is only from the bank to the car dealer. Also not so comfortable transferring that much money with a phone app. One misplaced number and ‘Poof’! Your money is gone. ???? So what’s the best way to pay for a new car at a dealership?
  14. Looking into getting an electric hot water heater for the shower. At one store we were in, the sales person asked what our water source is. We get our water from our well. The sales person said that with well water it’s best to get a heater that has the plastic ‘chamber’ rather than a copper one. Out of several stores we went into, only that one store mentioned this. When we asked at other stores we were told it does not matter. I know our well water is very high in mineral content. Copper or Plastic?
  15. Grandmothers condition could warrant a longer stay and the Thai passport gives the freedom to do that. Best to enter Thailand on Thai passport. Just in case.
  16. Again. What your branch manager says, and what document you have seen at another branch is irrelevant. All that matters is what they will or will not do at the branch you are standing in. Don’t know what problematic Farangs have to do with it. My wife is Thai. It’s her personal account. She’s the one that requested a new card and was denied. It’s kind of like a Farang going into immigration in Chiang Mai and insisting they do something the way you want because that’s how immigration does it in Phuket. What immigration does in Phuket is irrelevant when you are standing in the immigration office in Chiang Mai.
  17. What your branch manager confirms is only relevant to that branch. If the manager at another branch says “No”, it doesn’t matter what the manager at another branch ‘confirms’. Bottom line. All that really matters is what they are telling you at the branch you are standing in. Best to go in and ask.
  18. Guess it just depends on the branch of BKK Bank you go into. My wife has had a BKK Bank account for many years that she had opened in BKK. Her debit card had expired several years ago as we were living in the U.S. Her account has remained ‘active’ as she routinely made international transfers to the account. Now we are living out in Isaan and have been to 3 different Bangkok Banks in two different provinces trying to get her a new debit card, and all 3 have told her only the original bank in BKK where she opened her account can issue a new card. She still has her passbook, and they updated it for her, and she can also make over-the-counter withdraws, no problem. Although they do charge her 60 Baht to do the withdraw.
  19. Thank you everyone for your feedback. Much appreciated. I actually ordered a new Toyota Veloz in Pearl White almost two months ago. Unfortunately, Pearl White seams to be the color of choice for most, so long delays in delivery. When I spoke with the dealer a couple of days ago they are telling me it could be several more months. I kinda like the red color anyway, so I thought I’d let them know I’d be ok with the Red vehicle if it would speed up delivery of the car. By the time the car gets delivered, the 2023 models should be coming out. The Honda BR-V had been at the top of my choices of new vehicle, but every dealer I went to, or called said there were none available, and could not be ordered. Well, the new model BR-V has now been announced, but the base price is now 915,000 (but many upgrades). The base price for the previous model was 765,000. That’s a pretty hefty increase, and I fear the same increases will occur with other vehicles.
  20. Was looking at a 2022 dark red mica metallic Toyota Veloz. Would the interior of dark red color vehicle get too hot in the Thailand sun? How does a dark red hold up in Thailand? Would the red color start to prematurely fade in the Thailand sun? Thanks
  21. Thanks ubonJoe. That makes sense. I’ll go ahead and update my bank book the day I go in to do the report since the notice does say “…you must show the deposit account again on 17 SEP 2022” Also, do you think it will be OK to go in a few days early to do the report (my first report)? I hate waiting until the last minute and I always try and get things done early if at all possible. Just in case there are any issues.
  22. After reading another post about a bank verification letter for a retirement extension, I’m even more confused, so I thought I would start this separate post to help clarify my questions. I am located in the Provence of SiSaket. I am using the 800K in the bank method for proof of funds for my retirement extension. I did my first retirement extension showing my BKK Bank book and a verification letter from the BKK Bank branch where I opened my account. I will need to do my first 90 day report in Sept. In my passport is an attached notice stating; “Upon approval, the deposited money must remain in the bank account for a period of 3 months, not less than 800,000 baht. Then, you must show the deposit account again on 17 SEP 2022”. So, firstly, I assume I cannot go into immigration a few days (week) early to do the 90 day report since it states a specific date (17 SEPT 2022)? For the proof of funds in the account I’ll need; A copy of my bankbook updated on the day I do the 90 day report. A standard, signed, ‘proof’ verification letter from the bank that states the funds are in my account, also done on the day I do the 90 day report. A “12 month” (3 month) bank statement which comes from BKK Bank in BKK verifying the funds have not dropped below the 800K during the 3 month period before the 90 day report. Also, since there is the requirement to have the funds not drop below the 800K/400K threshold during the periods before and after future extensions, will I forever more need a 12 month statement that comes from BKK Bank in Bangkok for every extension? Or will the standard proof of funds verification letter from my bank branch, along with my bankbook updated on the day of the extension be sufficient to show the required funds are in my account and that they have not dropped below the required limits? Thanks.
  23. Thank Pib. I’ll look into the “WPC” material you posted and see what I can find locally. Still need to figure out the best way to make the frame to attach the WPC onto. I’ll have to take a look at the place nearby where we live that does the metal awnings and see what type of frame they use. If they are strong enough I may just buy the frames from them and then install the WPC instead of the metal. If the frames aren’t strong enough maybe I could find someone that could build the same frame out of a stronger material. Another option is an awning I’ve seen online at HomePro that are only 750 Baht. Maybe I could purchase one of those and replace the metal with some WPC. I’d have to do some modification since I need a width of about 164cm. The closest HomePro is a little over an hour away. Online I couldn’t find any WPC roofing at HomePro, but they do have WPC outdoor flooring. I’ll have to take a look and see if that would work, although being for outside decking, it is probably designed to allow water to flow out between planks. Or…I could just go with the metal awning. Like I mentioned before, we have metal roofing on the house and also the two carports. The metal carport roofing is only about 45cm below the windows, so it’s already pretty loud when it rains. If the noise from the awnings is too much, I could later replace the metal with WPC when I find some. Thanks again.
  24. I’ve been doing some research into window awnings for our home and came across this old aseannow (Thaivisa) post from back in 2007 and was wondering what type of awnings you ended up going with, and pros/cons of your choice. Thanks for any input you could share. Anyone else have any ideas, suggestions? The house we want to add some awnings on is a typical wooden Thai style home. There is a place nearby that does the metal awnings with the curved front edge, and those look like they would not be too much trouble to install, but the responses about the noise in the rain with metal awnings has me re-thinking this. However, that said, the entire house is metal roofing including 2 car ports down the sides of the house, so I can’t imagine metal awnings would add much more noise than we already “enjoy”. ????
