  1. I’ve had just one pneumococcal vaccine and that was back in the U.S, a couple of years ago. I have no idea what kind of pneumococcal vaccine it was. But if it’s a one-time vaccine, I guess I’m good. I don’t know if it would be beneficial to do another here in Thailand. And as far as the Flu vaccine, if I have no plans on going outside of Thailand any time soon, a “current strain” vaccine should be OK? Is the “4 Strains” vaccine just for those that plan on traveling outside Thailand? Also; any issues with doing flu and Shingles (or pneumococcal) vaccines all at the same time?
  2. Back in the U.S. my wife & I got Flu vaccines each year. As far as I know there was just one type offered. I assume it was for the most common strain of Flu going around in the U.S. for that year. I also got a pneumonia vaccine. Again, just one offered. Here in Thailand I see different types of vaccines being offered; “Current strain” Flu vaccine. “4 Strains” Flu vaccine. And pneumonia vaccines offered are ‘Previnar 13’ & ‘Pneumovax 23’ and a combination of the two of them (two shots). I also see Previnar + Shingles and Pneumovax + Shingles offered. My understanding is there is still only one type of Shingles vaccine available in Thailand, so that’s what I’ll get. But how do I determine which of the Flu and pneumococcal vaccines to get? Also, should we go ahead and get the Flu and pneumococcal vaccines now?
  3. I was originally going to do the transfer on my Mac, but when I saw the ‘new’ verification page I did not complete the transfer, instead going to my phone to see if that would go easier. Which it did not. Same Mac and same phone from same location I’ve been doing transfers.
  4. I’ve been using Wise for years (from U.S. bank). For smaller transfers it usually takes under 10 seconds for the transfer to be made. I just did a Wise transfer this morning, and I was asked to verify my identity. They asked for a photo of my ID. I took a photo of my passport and it said something like ‘sorry, copies are not accepted. Must be original document’. It was my actual passport. It took 3 tries and finally was accepted. It then asked for a ‘selfie’. An oval window appeared on my phone and it asked that I frame my face in the oval, which I did. It kept asking me to move closer, closer, closer and it automatically captured the picture, which it rejected because it was out of focus (too close). After several attempts, moving to different lighting conditions, moving ‘closer’, it finally captured a picture it accepted. It then said it needed to be verified and should be verified later today. About 10 minutes later I got an email saying it was accepted and the transfer went through. Very annoying, and a bit stressful not knowing if the process was going to be completed. Like I said. I’ve used Wise for years and transfers have taken seconds. I hope this process isn’t repeated next time I do a transfer. It went from an easy, fast and reliable process to a very stressful process not knowing if I would be ‘accepted’.
  5. Would Cheewabhibaln Palliative Care Center be an option for this situation?
  6. I was doing some cleaning around the house and came across this old Pattaya brochure. “…you can be sure of one thing: You Will Have Fun In Pattaya.” Remember when the area south of South Pattaya Rd. was simply referred to as “The Village”. Notice on the map some Soi’s referred to as “Dirt Lane” or “Sand Alley”. Not much of anything ‘way’ out on 2nd road. Anyone know when the name “Walking Street” started? Wasn’t that the start of “Walking Streets” throughout Thailand?
  7. My wife is setup as the primary account holder on our Kasikorn bank, but it doesn’t matter. Joint account = No online access.
  8. Our BKK Bank accounts are set up with notification. We get a notice of any activity on the account. Even if we just login to the account online they will send us a notice to let us know someone logged into the account. As far as setting that up with Kasikorn bank, if we can’t even access the account online on the computer or with a phone app, the account is pretty much useless to us anyway, so we won’t even bother.
  9. Thanks. I just noticed my BKK Bank Debit card does not have a name on it either. All our Debit cards from the U.S. have our names on them, and of coarse all accounts (joint) have online access and phone apps for both of us. Also, with U.S. joint accounts, if one person passes away, all funds in the account go to the other account holder. No court/probate needed.
  10. Thanks to everyone that took the time to respond to my post. I’ve been very busy so it’s taken me awhile to get back to the post. A bank account with no online access. Never even occurred to me. Especially since single person accounts can and joint accounts cannot? No need for me to question the reasoning. I take it for what it is and move forward. Both my wife and I have had BKK Bank accounts for a long time, and of coarse we both have online access both on the computer and through the app on our phones. We just wanted to open additional accounts at a different bank just to have as a backup. Since we already have the joint account, hopefully opening single-person accounts at the same bank and branch will go smoothly. We’ll see about that. Once we have single accounts we will most likely just close the joint account. Don’t see any point in keeping it. Like I mentioned in the OP, opening the account was time consuming, but easy. They didn’t even ask for any letter/notice from immigration certifying my address. I just showed them my passport and Thai drivers license and it was just a matter of waiting while they input all the info. “Sign here” and done.
  11. I pretty much just use the Safari browser. Some Kasikorn pages will load in ‘EN’. Some will not. Thanks. Once we single-person accounts we will give K BIZ a try. I just checked my old BKK Bank ATM card and it does not have a name on it either. I never noticed since I haven’t been using it.
  12. Just opened a joint savings account with my wife at Kasikorn Bank. Easy to do, it just took a very long time for them to complete the paperwork. After all was complete and done, I asked if both my wife and I could use the Kasikorn phone app on our phones, and the reply was no. Not both of us, and not one of us. They also told me that we cannot create an online account on my computer. I asked how we were supposed to monitor our account and we were told that we could either go to an ATM machine or go into a Kasikorn bank. We told Them that we need to monitor when funds arrive from U.S. when we do transfers and they told us the only way to know if and when the funds arrive in our account is to go to the ATM or at the counter in the bank. I find it very hard to believe they don’t allow online access, and we are not going to get in the car and drive to an ATM machine just to take a look at our account. They then told us that if we want online access or to use the app on our phones, we need to open additional accounts with one name only on the account. Joint accounts, no access. I checked the app store and see there is a ‘K Plus’ app, but it appears to be only in Thai. ( We need English). I did go online to the website, just to check if it would allow me to register, but it gives multiple choices that do no appear to be regular savings accounts. When I go to the Kasikorn home page online and hover over ‘Login’, the choices are ‘K Biz’, ‘K-Cyber Invest’, ‘K-Cyber Trade’, and ‘K-Corporate Connect’. We are not a business, or corporation and are not investing/trading. It’s just a personal savings account. We also took a look at ‘Digital Banking’ > ‘K Plus’, on the Kasikorn website, but the page is only in Thai. I’ve toggled the switch from ‘TH’ to ‘EN’, but it remains in Thai. Oh, and even though it is a joint account, they would only issue us one ATM card. It wasn’t until after we left the bank that I realized the ATM card has no names on it, front or back, and on the front under the ‘VISA’ logo, it says ‘Business Debit’, but our account is just a basic Savings Deposit Account. The bankbook says “Savings Deposit Passbook’. I know many Expats use Kasikorn bank. So what’s up with this?
  13. Can you just go online to your account and change the mailing address, leaving the physical address as is?
  14. Try this surf shop in Chalong, Phuket https://www.freedomboardsports.com/
  15. Was that using “PromptPay” on the BKK bank Bualuang app where it shows the recipient?
  16. You have a point. When I went in to get my Thai drivers license I had to prove I could use the apps on my phone (while driving) before they would issue my drivers license. ????
  17. Thanks. I didn't realize there was a 'favorites' that you could save recipients to in the app.
  18. We ordered a new vehicle a while back and are waiting for delivery. We will be buying this vehicle for “cash”. No payments. I’ve never purchased a car in Thailand before. When buying a new car for ‘cash’ at a dealership, do you need to actually pay physical cash, or can you transfer funds to the dealership? Can you go into your bank and have them do a transfer of funds to the dealership? Can the bank make out a check to the dealership? Or do you do a transfer using the banks app on your phone? I’m not comfortable carrying around that much cash money. Even if it is only from the bank to the car dealer. Also not so comfortable transferring that much money with a phone app. One misplaced number and ‘Poof’! Your money is gone. ???? So what’s the best way to pay for a new car at a dealership?
  19. Looking into getting an electric hot water heater for the shower. At one store we were in, the sales person asked what our water source is. We get our water from our well. The sales person said that with well water it’s best to get a heater that has the plastic ‘chamber’ rather than a copper one. Out of several stores we went into, only that one store mentioned this. When we asked at other stores we were told it does not matter. I know our well water is very high in mineral content. Copper or Plastic?
  20. Grandmothers condition could warrant a longer stay and the Thai passport gives the freedom to do that. Best to enter Thailand on Thai passport. Just in case.
  21. Again. What your branch manager says, and what document you have seen at another branch is irrelevant. All that matters is what they will or will not do at the branch you are standing in. Don’t know what problematic Farangs have to do with it. My wife is Thai. It’s her personal account. She’s the one that requested a new card and was denied. It’s kind of like a Farang going into immigration in Chiang Mai and insisting they do something the way you want because that’s how immigration does it in Phuket. What immigration does in Phuket is irrelevant when you are standing in the immigration office in Chiang Mai.
  22. What your branch manager confirms is only relevant to that branch. If the manager at another branch says “No”, it doesn’t matter what the manager at another branch ‘confirms’. Bottom line. All that really matters is what they are telling you at the branch you are standing in. Best to go in and ask.
  23. Guess it just depends on the branch of BKK Bank you go into. My wife has had a BKK Bank account for many years that she had opened in BKK. Her debit card had expired several years ago as we were living in the U.S. Her account has remained ‘active’ as she routinely made international transfers to the account. Now we are living out in Isaan and have been to 3 different Bangkok Banks in two different provinces trying to get her a new debit card, and all 3 have told her only the original bank in BKK where she opened her account can issue a new card. She still has her passbook, and they updated it for her, and she can also make over-the-counter withdraws, no problem. Although they do charge her 60 Baht to do the withdraw.
