    That is clearly an error.

    I hope so.

I noticed that the Thai E-Visa Official Website states; deposit of the amount equal to and not less than 800,000 THB or an income certificate with a monthly income of not less than 65,000 THB or a deposit account plus a monthly income in total not less than 80,000 THB.

Not sure I understand that last part about the deposit account and 80,000 monthly income.

  2. I just went to the Los Angeles Thai Consulate website to re-check if they had updated the site to show the required 3M insurance required with the O-A visa, which they already have done. But what really caught me by surprise was this:

    7. Applicant must have a bank deposit of
7.1 no less than 1,200,000 Baht or
7.2 an income certificate (an original copy) with a monthly income (pension) of not less than 100,000 Baht, or
7.3 a deposit account plus a monthly income (pension) totaling not less than 1,200,000 Baht.

In the case of submitting a bank statement, a letter of guarantee from the bank (an original copy) is required.

I figured this was coming someday, but it still really surprised me. I wouldn’t be surprised if this carries over to the NON-O retirement extensions. ????

I have been using Postscanmail.com for a few years now and am happy with them.

Thanks for the feedback. I took a look at postscanmail but there were a few things I was not sure about them. Like some other services, scanning fees can be substantial when going over the plan limit, and their basic ‘Starter’ plan is fairly limited (5 content scans/month). The big thing that kind of worries me about the service is that they have a huge list of address locations to choose from. At first glance that would appear to be an advantage, but when a company has that many locations, it leads me to believe they just contract out to local postal service companies in these different areas with no real oversight as to how those companies operate, with privacy and security being somewhat questionable.

I have used physicaladdress for several years without complaint. Never had problem with documents or credit card forwarded to me in Thailand.

Thanks for sharing your experience with PhysicalAddress. Good to hear you are pleased with their service. Which of their locations do you use? I’m thinking of going with their Las Vegas, Nevada location. They do, in my opinion, appear to be the best overall value of the services I’ve researched.

Their pricing is very reasonable, and they claim that they manage and operate all of their address locations and do not ‘outsource’ to third-party mail centers.

As I’ve mentioned in another thread, I’ve been using virtualpostmail.com for a couple of years, but I’m always on the lookout for other options, and PhysicalAddress, at less than have the price of virualpostmail looks like a great deal, especially going forward as prices increase in the future.

Also consider things like jury duty summonses.

Hopefully that won’t be an issue. I’m not establishing residency in the state, like getting a state ID or Drivers License. Just a mailing address.

I'd do a bit of research, and make sure you understand any government type documents you might be signing when providing your "address".

What sort of government documents are you referring to?

Best reference on aseannow.com that I could find is:

    https://aseannow.com/topic/1203822-us-topic-anyone-have-experience-with-mail-forwardingphysical-address-service-in-california/

I don't use the aseannow search function.  It sux.  I use Google to search this site only.  Just add  "site:aseannow.com/topic" to your Google query.

Thanks for that link. I actually had a couple of posts in that thread!

And especially thanks for the "site:aseannow.com/topic" search tip when using google. I’ve wasted way too much time trying to use the search engine on this website!

  7. I looked into physicaladdress.com a while back, but after many searches on Asean Now, I cannot find any posts about this service.

I’d like to follow up with anyone that has used the service for 6 month or more.

Are you happy with their service?

How long have you been using this service?

Have you had them forward documents or credit/debit cards to you in Thailand?

Do you consider the forwarding service fees fair?

Any feedback on this company would be much appreciated.

I renewed mine on 2 Sep at the main DMV near Mo Chit.  Very quick and easy. Everyone was pleasant and helpful.

Was the color blindness test an Ishihara test (circular image containing many dots of various colors, brightness and sizes) or just standard signal lights?

    Thanks.

  9. I am currently in the U.S. and also have Blue Cross/Blue Shield coverage that can be used in Thailand.

Even if my BlueCross/BlueShield coverage is acceptable for COE, I probably will get a separate Covid-coverage from a Thai-based insurance just to cover costs if I were to test positive and be asymptomatic, or even symptomatic, as BlueCross/BlueShield will only cover hospitalization if it is deemed ‘Medically necessary’. The cost of Thai Covid insurance coverage is small compared to the cost for possibly two people spending 14 days in a hospital.

When I'm in Thailand I go to settings and turn off my US eSIM. If I'm expecting a SMS because I'm logging into a US financial account I just turn it for a while. When I'm in the US, I do the opposite and turn of my Thai SIM.

Thank you. That’s what I was hoping to do!????

Oddly, I had to use an old Android phone to activate the sim over wifi

    I'm surprised that worked.

Yes, odd. I originally tried to activate the sim with an old iPhone 6 that I have. It didn't  have a sim card and was used with wifi only. I got caught in a sort of catch 22 in that to activate the UM paygo sim and get a local phone number, I needed to put the sim in the iPhone and send a text to UM with my zip code. But when I tried to send a text with Apple message It would tell me that in order to use the Messages App I first needed to enter the phone number. No number, no text. No text, no number. I then tried the sim in an old Android phone and sent a text with no problem. They activated the sim, and gave my a local phone number. I took the sim out of the Android phone and put it in the old iPhone 6 and it works great!

My iPhone X uses my Thai DTAC number as my e-SIM and I have my physical US Ting SIM in the slot. It works fine when I'm in either country. I control whether I want to use one or the other via the system settings.

In the settings, are you able to set the physical Ting sim to use in wifi only? Again, I’m mainly interested in using my physical UMPaygo sim in Thailand to receive 2FA while in wifi mode to avoid roaming charges. Not sue if there is a way to do that in ‘settings’ on the iPhone, or if I just need to place the phone in Airplane mode when using UMPaygo in Thailand.

I like the convenience of arriving in either country and having immediate phone/data.

I hadn’t even thought about that, but we do plan on returning to the U.S. for a short period in 2022. Thanks for the tip!!????
