  1. The problem is very likely your half-open connection and established connections (particularly if you use public torrent trackers).

Limit the half open to 15-20

Limit concurrent connections to below 200.

A quick remedy is to shut down your torrent client, turn off the PC, restart your ADSL modem, turn the PC back on, DO NOT USE TORRENT CLIENT, test connection.

Quite likely your connection speeds will be fine. Then try to open your torrent client, and after 5 minutes check your connection speeds overall again. Probably not so fine anymore.

If the connection is still crap even after following the above steps, the issue is most likely the transparent proxy servers that handles logging on behalf of the government and the implemented policies.

There are (legal) ways around this, but according to forum policies I am not allowed to speak of it publicly.

No offense, but I do know how to configure a bit torrent client.

How many times do I have to say it? TRUE THROTTLES TORRENTS. How would you explain downloading at 400-500KB/s, then all of a sudden, speed is reduced to 30-40KB/s and stays like that for the next 14 hours or so?? This occurs EVERYDAY at 11AM precisely.

If you're on True ADSL and don't notice anything, chances are you're downloading from local peers -- which btw, aren't subject to traffic-shaping rules. I can download at my full rated speed (9Mbps) whenever I connect to local peers, 24/7. However, the same cannot be said of "non-local peers", which all face the axe come 11AM. I've verified this time and time again. Same old sh!t.

So did you try (shut down your torrent client, turn off the PC, restart your ADSL modem, turn the PC back on, DO NOT USE TORRENT CLIENT, test connection.)?

You have problems with your connection... I'm on the same ISP as you, and yet I have full bandwidth for anything I do - at anytime.

I was foolish enough to share my experience (that works by the way). Take it or leave it.

Very rarely do my torrents connect to the True bitcomet servers since I mostly use private trackers, and rarely use public ones. (You do know that True cashes torrents from the most popular public trackers, right? This has a 2 fold benefit, True saves some international bandwidth, and we get our torrents a bit quicker.)

True does NOT throttle torrent peer speeds. They limit the number of half open connections and concurrent connections. Even if you configure your torrent client "correctly" you WILL see problems when using a public tracker.

You can very easily verify that True does not limit peer speed by using a private tracker where seeds have 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps connections (Not local Thai peers. Most my torrent downloads are from seedboxes hosted with OVH in France). I CONSISTENTLY 24/7 receive 1.05-1.09 MB/s download speed. No limit at all. I, in fact, max my torrent speed with a single seed.

Please, before offering your retort, stop and think about what I have told you. There is no reason for me to give you false or incorrect information.

(and thanks for reminding me why I stopped posting here at Thaivisa...)

  3. I am looking to replace my very good shoes, with something very similar to the below image.

Please note the plain black ONE PIECE WITHOUT SEAM on the front.

I have tried all the name brands and many brandless/China brands, but they seem to top out at size 44. I NEED SIZE 46.

Buying online is not an option as my foot is very picky about the shoe it wears, so I must try before I buy.

The ones I currently have are not sold anymore (ECCO. and now they only carry up to s. 44).

I'm willing to go anywhere in Bangkok, and in a pinch to nearby cities.

Any ideas, suggestion or even outright recommendations?

  4. So a question has arisen where a re-entry permit is required, but said person is not in nor near Bangkok.

The person is around Udon Thani and Nong Khai area and would need to cross into Laos and then back again a day or so later.

Not wishing to go through the hassle of applying for a new visa, what are the options to obtain a re-entry permit in or near Udon Thai and/or Nong Khai?

  5. Luang Prabang to Luang Namtha is 90,000 kip on a very decent a/c bus with comfy seats. Trip takes over 9 hours though through a very curvy landscape with plenty of peaks and valleys.

Some sensitive people might find the trip scary (narrow roads next to deep valleys, rickety bridges, etc) and/or feel sick due to a mix of leadfoot and featherfoot driving.

    Popular route with backpackers.

Going from Luang Namtha to the border takes about 1 hour with a car/pickup/songtaew.

Accommodation is cheap and good, so is the food. People are nice and slow paced.

    Plenty of police check points.

Direct report from a friend on a current trip.

  6. Generally speaking Thai coffee is quite bad, and Dao coffee is equally as bad.

There is one exception though, and that is Duang Dee, as has been mentioned in this thread already.

Hand picked, organic, hand roasted, hand ground.

Most of the time you will find the ready ground 250 gram vacuum packed bags, but they do sell the whole beans as well (although more rare).

Personally I like 3 flavors they have.

Classic, a little less flavor, so it is easier on the tongue, low bitterness, short aftertaste.

Unique Strong, truly a "pick me up" coffee. Lots of flavor, low bitterness, short aftertaste. Works well as Iced Coffee.

Extra Smooth, I like this one for my espresso shots, but as a full drawn coffee it is not as good as the others.

    Read more about Duang Dee

  7. Clean religiously.

Add A/C with hepa filter or extra air filter device with hepa filters.

Minimize the time windows and doors are open. Plug any air leaking spots (and there are MANY in Thai built houses/condos/apartments).

Install an air ventilation system that draws air in from the outside, but filters is thoroughly.

Create positive indoor air pressure (air pressure inside is greater than that of the outside). This way air can't infiltrate your home, but instead wants to exit the home.

  8. Step 1. Report crime of stolen documents and potential identity theft. Receive copies of police report.

Step 2. Have those stolen documents annulled/canceled/retracted and replaced by new documents.

Step 3. Report to the "gents" embassy about his criminal activities (supply copies of police reports).

Step 4. Inform immigration about the criminal activity. Show police reports. Perhaps they are helpful enough to flag him and if he tries to exit the country he'll get held until the situation can be cleared.

Step 5. Ensure no new credit card have been opened in her name at any bank, nor any new credit taken out to purchase cars and other consumables.

If any credit has been opened, cancel them with the motivation that her identity has been compromised. Show police reports.

The criminal is at fault, not the Thai woman.

  9. Tell me one place in the world where a handyman of any sort doesn't charge you a minimum if he has to come to your place?

Gasoline is not free, vehicle wear and tear is not free. His time is not free.

400 Baht to come to your place sounds quite fair for an average distance the handyman needs to travel.

If you don't need him to come to your place, then the fee is probably much less.

If you want cheap/free handyman service, try to befriend someone you know is good at <needed service> and then ask them to visit you. Hand them tools as they walk into your place. Explain what needs to be done.

  10. Probably the most easiest way to install Android on an iPhone 2G/3G is via iPhoDroid, which we did cover previously. But the problem with it is; you should have a computer to run the whole process of installing Android on your iPhone 2G/3G. But thanks to Bootlace 2.1, you can now install Android 2.2.1 Froyo on your jailbroken iPhone without needing to connect it to any PC or Mac!

  11. Have you tried using a webproxy (eg. hidemybox.com) to access your site? (For the Thaivisa admins/mods: This is not against the law, assuming your website hasn't actually been blocked by the authorities.)

Perhaps switch from using the ISP supplied DNS servers, and use for example googles DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). I suggest them over others as they have consistently quicker lookups.

  12. 3 days on a bus makes anyone smelly... no?

Hit a nerve with that comment apparently.:ermm:

It's not rough at all going the suggested way of flying. An hour on the flight, 1 hour on the van, 30 minutes to cross the border, 30 minutes to Thai embassy. You are there at about 10.30 am, latest 11 am, and at your hotel relaxing at latest noon (early check in time).

Then you are free to fart around for the afternoon/evening. Next morning enjoy a lazy breakfast. Check out at noon, hit the Thai embassy at 1 PM (or slightly earlier, not important), back out maximum 1 hour later (normally 20 minutes), get a nice cab ride to the border, cross, and off to have a buffet at the air port or a nice coffee before you board the flight. Back at about 7-8 pm in Bangkok.

Most of the time you are NOT traveling.... B)

I only suggest Jacks Golf as I don't know of any other reliable company. Many open and close in short spans of time from what I have seen.

  13. Why not fly to Udon Thani with Air Asia, take the mini-bus/van from the airport to the Nongkai border, cross (not sure about visas for Chinese people), and make your way to the Thai embassy in Vientiane?

The whole trip should take 1 night and 2 days, and cost in the region of 5000 Baht including Laos visa, hotel, food & local transport. And you don't have to travel with a bunch of smelly "aliens" for 3 days. ;)

You can inquire about Laos visas at the Laos embassy in Bangkok or directly at the border. I suggest getting the visa in advance though because sometimes the queue is long at the border.

Otherwise, why not contact Jack's Golf?
