  1. A bomb exploded in the Pratunam area earlier tonight (11 pm-ish).

Details are sketchy but quite a few cops showed up searching the area and interviewed witnesses. Reporters were on scene to document the incident.

I have attached a few images of the "aftermath".

  2. I have found that most Thais are honest, hardworking and generous individuals.

Most "bad apples" (at least in Bangkok), seem to congregate in specific areas which are easy to avoid.

I take taxis on a daily basis, and very few times have I met a "bad" taxi driver. I guess I receive in kind of what is given. Polite conversation, laughs and smiles. Sometimes I get the high driver, or otherwise under the influence of mind altering substances. I simply apologize that I can't continue with him as I forgot <item> at origination point. Pay, and as I leave comment that life is better without stress of having big expenses. Nobody seems to mind.

And as shown in this thread, there ARE great individuals in this world, and they all should receive accolades.

I'd be willing to part with an amount I can afford to assist the driver and his son with whatever is deemed proper.

  3. Do you have pictures of the damage?

I lol'd.........pictures of the damage bwahahahahahahahahaha.

Assuming the data has not been compromised the easiet way to fix it is to find another HDD with identical model/serial number and swap over the electrical bits.

One wonders if you always laugh when you do not know what you are talking about.

A power surge can easily do this (and other types of similar damage):

    Anything else?

  4. I am virtually the only person I know that doesnt have facebook, except somre really old people I know etc.

No you are not. Many people did not sign up initially because of privacy concerns. Those concerns have now been confirmed in epic ways.

Also, for some oddball reason, facebook users freely add their most private details and share it indiscriminately, however, these same users voice security concerns when signing up anonymously for other websites/systems online.

Also, another interesting tidbit for everyone to consider (and this goes for most "free" services provided by large companies).

Do you think you are the customer of those sites? Or do you think you are their product?

If you think about it for a minute, you will perhaps come to the conclusion that you are indeed their product. Not only is your personal information sold to advertisers, but your behavior online is mined so you can be targeted/singed out/profiled. Even worse, you do not know who has access to your data/behavior - consequently you do not know if the data being used maliciously - and if you ask, you are told to ^%$! off in no uncertain terms.

    Happy facebooking.

  5. There is no other difference between the Standard and Premium packages except the upload speed.

And each new client with True will enjoy FANTASTIC service the first month, great service the 2nd month, and horribly declining service from month 3 onwards.

I'm sure they prioritize new clients bandwidth for a month for the simple reason that new clients will "test" their connection when they get it, and not do continuing testing from month 2 or 3 onwards.

  6. DTAC is generally good filtering out spam messages. They will ask from which sender you got the message, what time you received the message and the contents of the message. If the message is in Thai, and you are unable to read it, they sometimes even offer to receive the message on their personal mobiles if you forward it. Then they track down and remove your number from every spam list they can find (which in my experience is all of them).

AIS is also generally good stopping spam, but it takes a little more effort to get them to move, and even then they state it takes up to 7 days to get is resolved. I had to call AIS twice to have all spam removed.

True Move... I have a number that I haven't even used. I only gave this number to the customer service rep so I cold gain Trues promotion package for an unrelated service. I receive spam on this number (3-4 per day) I haven't tried to stop it as on the previous number I had it was useless to try and ask them to stop. They were unwilling or unable to help.

Rule of thumb. If you receive automated voice calls, hang up. If you answer and hang up quickly the calls eventually stop.

  7. California WOW, eh?

That place tries to sell you at any price, just like used car sales men.

I got a lifetime membership for 9,000 Baht and that included 2 hours free "Thai boxing" training.

I only pay 100 Baht per year to sustain this membership.

The worst thing is that they do not have a fixed schedule for prices anywhere, so it is BUYER BEWARE.

  8. Khanom. Thailand has always had khanoms, small snacky, invariably sweetened cakes and bite-sized finger foods. They were not mass produced so were scarcer. Now 7-eleven and Family Mart have racks of the factory-produced things.

Exactly, not rocket science, just a slight twist of a country tradition of sorts.

And Thai's do eat often, not a lot, but often. This helps metabolism, and most will stay skinny even though it seems they always eat something.

There is no voodoo nor mystique nor foul play here, but of course that's boring....

And if you want "good bread", bake it yourself. It's not difficult at all. Simply add some flour, water, yeast, salt, flavorings and heat up (slight variations do occur).

  9. Actual stat from Immigration Office classify by types of visa.

    http://www.immigrati...e.php?page=stat

    1.นักท่องเที่ยว = tourist visa

    2. คนอยู่ชั่วคราว = Non-Im visa

    3. คนเดินทางผ่าน = transit visa

    4.ยกเว้นการตรวจลงตรา = visa exemption

    รวมต่างชาติ = foreigner in total

    Doesn't this show that http://www.immigration.go.th/stat/stat_inout_jan-may2010_nation.xls

about 1.5 million foreigners entered Thailand January-May 2010?

Compared to January- May 2009 http://www.immigration.go.th/stat/stat_inout_2009_nation.xls

    about 4.8 million entered Thailand.

But then again, I might be reading it wrong... Google translate is many times not very accurate between Thai-English.

  10. If you bought it less than 7 days ago, simply return if for your money back.

More than 7 days ago, but less than 30 days, you can probably exchange the RAM for the desired one.

More than a month ago and you might be screwed.

Now, to properly answer if you ram is indeed "667Mhz" a lot more details are required (specs of core components, screenshots of CPU-Z, etc etc).

  11. I normally fully charge the battery, then run off battery power until completely drained, then I fully charge it again before turning the laptop back on. I do this just to see if there is any problem with battery capacity. I measure the actual battery wear level with, for example, Everest Ultimate. If the wear level is high on a new battery I return it for a new one.

It’s not bad to leave your laptop plugged in. In fact, it’s a good thing to keep it plugged in whenever you don’t need to be running on battery power.

Due to their chemistry, battery capacity slowly diminishes with age. Laptop batteries usually lose most of their useful capacity 2-3 years after manufacture (not initial use).

If you use the laptop on battery power a lot, the battery lifespan will be shortened. This “wearing out” effect is much less severe than with older battery technologies, but is still present. This is why you should plug it in if it’s convenient. Any “memory effect”, or the need to “refresh” or “deep-cycle” the battery by completely discharging before recharging, is stale knowledge from the time of NiCad and NiMH batteries. Lithium-ion batteries don’t suffer from the memory effect and thus can be charged at any time.

When plugged in, the battery is not in use (unless the battery is not fully charged, then it will charge). The laptop’s power circuitry bypasses the battery unless it’s needed. Depending on how smart the charger is, it may occasionally poll and “top off” the battery if its charge decreases to a certain threshold below 100%, but this is rarely needed in practice. Lithium-ion and lithium-polymer batteries have the lowest self-discharge rates of any common battery technology, estimated at less than 1% per month and difficult to distinguish from the loss of capacity with age.

To transfer your files over to the new laptop you can simply do a network transfer (takes a while) between the laptops. This is the simplest way and requires no new investment (eg. USB hard drives).

For any installed programs it is best to reinstall them fresh on Win7.

If you need more assistance, please feel free to PM me and we can sort things out privately without clogging the board with a lot of back and forth posts.
