  1. Hi guys, my wife has been carrying on with me about this idea of going to Bangkok paying for a course that will teach her how to make whiskey, she will then do the course and receive a franchise to sell it, we are in Ubon Ratchathani so she wants to open shop here. There is no paper work to show me, she just got the number from a friend. Do you think this can be true / legit? They are looking for around 50000 baht but I still don't know for what. Does anybody have an idea?

  2. Hi, thank you for the response, I have however looked at these links, I have also been in contact with Apple both Thailand and USA. The problem is not redeeming the gift voucher, it using the $2000 after I've redeemed the voucher. If I check card balance on the Apple US website it tells me I have $2000 available, which I have not redeemed. I could easily redeem the card and spend it online for any Apple purchases on the US site only. Sure, I could pretend to be in US and make my online purchases, but they will only ship within US to a US address, if they just suspect that it is a forwarding address to another country they will not ship and you risk losing you card value.

The card purchasing companies won't purchase it, again because I'm not in the US and won't deposit to my PayPal Thailand account. I don't want to sell it privately i.e Amazon, eBay and Craigslist because of the high risk evolved in selling the gift cards online.

I have not gone the iTunes route as I have never used itunes and also think you will will end with s#@* load of itunes that will last you a lifetime (usd 2000). I don't watch that many movies or read that many books.

And lastly I don't know anybody in the US well enough.

    That's the problem.

Sorry didn't mean to make that so long-winded, but if anybody can make a suggestion or have a solution, it would be appreciated or could even be beneficial to you.

    Kind regards...

  3. Hi, I just sent you a PM with details to avoid the negative attacks on this forum, I don't understand why people stay here if they are so negative about everything including their own lives....Thailand is great, you'l love it at won't want to go back to SA in short plus you WILL get a teaching position guaranteed - teaching conversation English is certainly not rocket science. Buy your plane ticket and just come, that's all there is to it.

  4. A child born overseas to an Australian national and registered with the Australian embassy is automatically an Australian citizen, he should have stayed cool, taken the daughter on a holiday to Grandma in oz and stayed there, chances would have been slightly better and the payoff, more affordable......anyway..coffee1.gif

The child maybe an Australian citizen but the person named on the birth certificate as the father is not legally recognised in Thailand as such until you have made application through the courts and a judge deems you to be the lawful father. Those that have family visa's will know this process takes at least 3 months. If the guy hasn't been through this procedure then he is no more the father than Bill Smith of Kooweerup. The Embassy wouldn't touch him with a barge pole if he doesn't have this court document.

You obviously have no idea what you'r talking about because I have two daughters in Thailand and my name is on the birth certificate...Legally recognized, I never went through the 3 month process that u mention. My wife would need to go through a 3 month process if not longer to change the fact that I'm not the father as stated on the birth certificate. What is the point of having your name there then, somebody has bs you somewhere down the line. Oh and by the way, have the family visa too..

  5. Hi There

    What years are you teaching?

To be honest a translation gadget/program shouldn't be required as long as you teach them conversational English using appropriate materials.

Have you used the 'Communicative theory' to get your point across?

They need to learn by attaching an activity to a sentence/phrase, this is how TEFL is taught IMO.

They will soon forget the meaning if taught via a simple translation.

But assuming you know this and just want to check for your self, 'Thai2english' is a decent online program that does the job.

    Hi There,

I agree with you fully and I do my teaching in the method you mentioned, I don't let my students translate the lesson as such, only the evaluation of their understanding that I do about once a week.....Thanks for your response

  6. If married to a Thai, no need to change to a non-B visa.

Sounds like your employer never hired a foreigner before. You apply for a wok permit with the help of the school. Both of you have to fill in some forms and supply some documentation. I advise to go to the labour office with someone from the school. The labour office will guide you through the process.

Cost is 3,100 baht for a 1 year work permit.

Hi, Thanks for the prompt response, I will follow your advise, yes this the first time they employed a foreigner say they don't know the process

  7. Hi Guys,

Please will somebody be kind enough to help me with some information. I am currently on a NON "O" multiple entry visa, which is valid until December this year. I am working for a college in Salaya, north of Bangkok, the college gave me a contract in English and Thai. What is the process that I need to follow to get a work permit? and how much will it cost? and should change my visa to a NON B ?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Lawrence
