  1. Tried the motoring forum-no answers

We have moved to Jomtien from south Thailand .

    1. Do we have to re-register our car here and get Chonburi plates?

    2. If yes -any advice where/how would be much appreciated.

    P

  2. Had assumed "the new house" was going to be in Jomtien but if Trang that should probably be your address of record and then change to the new address. If you are going to be in Pattaya/Jomtien area would use the hotel and have the proposed address to show. My bank letter does not have any address so never ran into that. Sometimes wonder if they even know it (one letter in ten years).

lopburi3- We have bought a house in Jomtien but cant move in untill mid December. Staying in a hotel till then.

It was the proof of income letter from the british consulate that I was concerned about because that shows my wifes

address in Trang where we were living when we got the letter.

I have not done the bank letter yet-next week.

Could I just put our address of our new house on the T7? or a letter from the developer saying it is our house.

    P

  3. We are staying in a hotel in Jomtien untill our new house is ready in December . Can I use the hotel address on the TM7 form to extend my o visa to retirement?

If not can I use our old address ( in Trang down south) on the form? My inlaws still live there and my wife is still on the house paper .

    P

We are in a serviced appt in Jomtien if that makes any difference

  4. From what I've read and experienced a bank book and bank letter are mandatory at Pattaya Immigration. Medical clearance is no longer required.

Really all you need bring to Immigration is your passport, letter from your embassy, bank letter, bank book and money. If you have photos you can bring them, otherwise have photos taken at the shop adjacent to Immigration. They can also make copies of your application, bank book, passport etc. They usually know how many of what to copy. Sign all the copies. Also write your phone number on the top of the back of the application.

You might consider going in the afternoon rather than morning as there seem to be fewer applicants then, though you'll have to return the next day to pick up my passport. Took me about 45 minutes last month.

    Thank you for the replies

  5. Thank you for the replies - I can imagine how annoying it is for every newcomer to ask the same stupid questions but even the mighty lopburi 3 says each individuai imm office or indeed officer in the same office can make there own rules .

    1. The Pattaya website wont load.

    2. The medical I beleive is not required

    3. Even though bht 65000 should be 'or' 800000 in the bank when I queried that today the officer just crossed out 'or'

4 He told me I could get a medical certificate from the hospital -on walking out I noticed the medical certificate bit on TM7 had been crossed out -I went back to ask and the same officer said I did not need a medical certificate. :o

    5. The form says bht1900 not bht2000

He didnt say I needed form 86?

Hence stupid questions to Jomtien 'office' members

    Regards

  6. We have looked at most locations in Thailand since arriving on 24 August and have decided to live in Jomtien. As evey place we have visited have there ''own immigration interpretations'' of the rules can I to ask the following.

Am I correct in assuming my consulate letter confirming montly income greater than Bht65000 is not enough for the Jomtien office? I went there today and they said they wanted copies of bank book and letter from my bank. When I pointed out the form he had given me had 'or' on it he just crossed 'or' out.

I asked about the medical certificate form and he said I would have to get it from the hospital; As I was leaving I noticed on the TM7 form the medical requirement had been crossed out so back I go and the same person said 'correct you dont need a medical.

Any one using the Jomtien office I would be grateful for advice on what this office wants and any advice you can give me.

We arrived LOS 24 Aug do I have to wait 60 days before I apply to extend my non o visa to a retirement visa?

    Regards

PS I was going to post this on the Pattaya forum but assumed the moderators would move it here.

  7. Yesterday I caught the end of a thai television report on houses for sale in CM (near the airport I think) I missed the website address. It was something like www.jarychagarden.com - this is obviously wrong- any one have any ideas?

    P :o

Every Friday at 4.05pm on Channel 11, Prachurn Goonchorn (who formerly ran a property magazine in CM) presents a programme (in Thai only, obviously) on the northern property market. Think that's what you saw.

You could reach him via Channel 11, wait with baited breath until next Friday, or wait for me to give you his personal e-mail here by Tuesday.

He is mature, bright, open minded and virtually fluent in English. ###### good TV presenter too.

Thank you for the reply- I will wait for his email address.

  9. We have just arrived in CM with me having a one year o visa and wife (thai)

I can imagine how annoying it is when a newbie arrives and asks the same questions that hundreds of other ( and maybe you) have asked before.

In my defence I have been been following TV for many months to have some idea of the rules and procedures to follow including reading the 'pinned' articles on the main and CM forums. I have just read the forum (again) that suggests 'lopburi' should be asked to write a DUMMIES BOOK on visas-to stop repeated questions any time a newbi arrived-- this was immediately discounted because evey office/officer seems to interpret the rules differently. i.e. I want to use the BHT 65000 route and in theory I dont have to show a bank book -on the CM forum here in CM you do??? -Other places you do not. So for probably the umpteenth time I am sure: In Chiang Mai to extend my o visa to a retirement visa will/can I :

1.Use the forms (english only) the Hull consulate gave me to use?

2.What documents do the CM office require and how many copies?

3.I will get the finance letter from the UK consul here in CM. 1700 baht ish I am told.

    4.Will I need a medical .

5.Have I wasted my money getting a polce record check done in Uk that Thai consulate in Hull said I needed?

    Any advice would be welcome

    Regards

  10. Morning all,

Before I telephone him, has anyone got the required letter stating Baht 65000 etc a month for extension to get a retirement visa from the UK Consul in CM. If yes, is there a charge ? (Phuket consul does it for free) I am hoping I dont have to travel to BKK just for a piece of paper.

  11. morning all,

Just arrived CM with wife (thai) Can anyone advise of where to start on buying a house -agents etc looking for a house already built. What is considered the best location, ( no children) :o

  12. We have finally arrived in Thailand.

If I want to extend or change my non imm O visa to a retirement visa will the immigration dept give one year more from expiry of my present visa or one year from approval?

As a newbie I am expecting a reply saying I am using the wrong terminology :o

    P

  13. ...a 'newbie' checking with others :D

    P

It's always good to read a recent real-life story from another member. Myself, I haven't gone the retirement route, at least not yet.

From me, just a small note on terminology: what John did and what you will do after arrival in Thailand is apply for an annual extension of stay for the reason of retirement, not for an O-A visa.

Best wishes for your retirement in Thailand!

Thank you -do you know the answers I asked John45 regarding police/medical?

  14. My thai wife of 32 years wishes to return home, and hope's i can go as well, with little hassel. In my case since i have a Thai wife, what type of Visa do i apply for?

I just did the same thing in Feb. I got a multi entry 'O' visa. Actually the multi entry was a waste of money as I changed to a retirement (O-A) visa very quickly. I wanted to get it all sorted, driving licence..the lot.

I went the pension way....more than 65000Baht/month. Came on a one-way tick etc etc. You might want to think about medical insurance.

pm me if you want any more but there are lots of threads about this

Are you allowed into Thailand on a NON O with only a oneway air ticket? As when i have visited it states that you need a onward flight ticket.

We travelled ETHAID business, an e-ticket, I confirmed with them that they would let us board the plane at Heathrow. They noted on the e-ticket that I had a Thai wife and was going there to retire. I made sure that there would be not problem. Our issuing agent westeastravel, were a bit concerned and they also talked to ETHAID.

Actually I probably wouldnt fly with them again. We did it because they offered us 40Kgs each, in fact we were above this but no problem and collected us in a limo from home FOC. Flight good, food good and lay flat beds ok but we were delayed 3 Hrs plus in Abu Dhabi, waiting for a connection flight to come in from France so they said. So it ended up a long journey in time.

    spelling edit!!

i am doing the same(only married 20 yrs!!!!)

I am arriving next week on 'O'.

How long were you in Thailand before appplying for O-A visa?

Did you need a police record check?

Did you need a Thai medical certificate?

    What office did you apply?

for Lopburi3- please dont be offended a 'newbie' checking with others :o
