Anyone got this- good or not?
-
Mobi is right- after your personal allowance is used the rest will be taxed at the normal rates. Tax free in - tax payable out- I agree it is a pain!!!!!!
-
And if the Jomtien office read this site why does the 'free' residency certificate cost Baht 200 with no receipt?
Unless you want to wait a hundred years for it. TIT

Welcome back- teetotal no- moderation -mostly
He Lied!!!!

The charges are laid out on the British Embassy website.
£34 for a letter based on Baht 72 to the pound.
Just like you and I are getting at the bank.
-
UK to Thailand (express ) should take 2-3 days. I would check if I were you.
-
I assume you all maintain yourself then.
-
On the advice of my employers tax advisors I do not have an offshore account, I simply completed a form declaring myself off shore and my UK highstreet bank and building societies no longer deduct tax from my accounts.
Simple as that.
I cpuldn't find a UK bank giving 6.5%+, you must be lucky.
Very very lucky

So when asked this question.....
Don't say: To buy weapons for "cause".
Do say: Living Expenses while on holiday.
Talking about cars and houses just makes your personal file interesting for people sitting in cold offices looking for people enjoying themselves overseas rather than investing the money in local taxes.
If you transfer over $20,000 and put ''living expenses whilst on holiday'' expect to see 30% wing its way to the BOT for a year!
( with no interest)

Just checked Natwest website
Normal transfer to LOS (up to 4 days) -£20
Urgent transfer to LOS (1 to 2 days) - £27
-
Lloyds/Tsb transfer fee is:
Up to £9,999 - £20
over £9,999 - £30
Most UK banks are nearly the same- if you have a much cheaper rate you are paying somewher else ( monthly charge etc)
-
Lopburi 3 - are you saying 'in your opinion' you can apply at any immigration office. I thought they ''preferred'' you to apply at your local office.
Is that the same same but different!
i.e. if they say 'go to your local office' is that not the same as the 'new law that has not been implemented being enforced'

Anyone have any contact numbers/ people for a pool maintenance company in Pattaya.?
I have tried the 'Swimming pool' thread but no answers.
I know I should /could do it myself but I want to try the idle approach first!
-
You should put your branch address on the transfer form. It will go to Bangkok office anyway. The Bangkok Bank website - under 'international payments' gives advice on how to expedite your payments to Thailand. If memory serves two suggestions are:
1.Put the beneficiary name as is on the passbook.
2. Use the swift code BKKBTHBK.
If you are transferring more than $20000 remember to advise your sending bank to annotate the form with the reason 'i.e. house purchase'
I get my transfers from Lloyds/Tsb in 2-3 working days.
You probably know but make sure you instruct your bank to send sterling GBP not baht!!!!

Even if you click'English' there is nothing updated- you still need a medical!
-
It has been asked before, but does anyone know of a swimming pool cleaning company in Pattaya that is recommended .( and has vacancies)
Move into new house early December.
I know I should / could do it myself but I want to try the idle approach first.

I did a search on this and was unable to find any updated information.
It's time to have money wired from my U.S. account to meet the 800,000-baht requirement for another year's extension of stay based on retirement.
Is the Thai government still imposing the "Capital Inflow Tax" on wire transfers of $20,000 or more, or has it been repealed? I just need to know whether I need to request one or two wire transfers.
As far as I know there has been no change- I would keep each transfer below $20000 to be on the safe side.

UK Passport-On the 'pinned forms download' I see there is two forms.
1. Advise of new passport
2. Change visa to new passport
When you went to immigration did you have both forms or just the change visa to new passport one?
If you send to BKK by post is it best EMS or 'registered' or are they the same thing?

http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/en/ba...p?page=service#Evidence showing reception of pension accompanied with Thai translation certified by the embassy or consulate of the country paying the pension
Lopburi 3
1. Who has the pension verification letter translated into Thai - I certainly have not.
2. It also says you need a medical certificate - no you dont.
The website is only pertinent if it is updated reguarly - which it is not.
Hence relying on TV members experiences is the only method we have.
And yourself of course!!!!

Understand you wish to insure your house for 5m Baht i.e. 20k Baht per m2.
Please ask your Broker for a quotation for an “All Risks” building cover. If the insurance company accepts your application on this price then that is what they will pay out on a total loss. If the company feels you are over insuring they may well ask for documentation/photos i.e. what type and where did you get your PVC windows for example.
The D.O.I. or as it’s now know the Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC) – don’t you just love that – does indeed have tables for different types of structures and build quality but they are guides.
Thank you for your very prompt reply.
On my example above is my broker correct i.e if I did insure for 5m and the OIC table says it is 8000 per sqm today
I would only receive B1.9 or thereabouts?
I would be paying a premium for 5m that was not achievable in the event of a disaster.
In my expereience guides become tablets of stone if it saves insurance companies money.
Thanks

We move into a new house in early December.
The house cost Baht 5,000,000 ( does not include the land price)
I obviously want to insure the property.
Of we went to a broker. I thought we should insure the house for B5m.
They said no problem 5m will be ---baht.
If ( we hope not ) the house burns down will the insurance pay up ( or thereabouts ) 5m to rebuild it?
Answer - No, they will pay 6000 to 10000 per sq metre depending on the DOI rates
So assuming the rate is in the middle (8000bth per sq metre) my house is 242 sq m I would get back ( or the maximum they will pay to rebuild is Baht 1,936,000- answer - yes that is correct.
So why whould I pay a premium of --- baht for 5m when I would only get the value of B1,936,000
Answer - it is up to you.
So if the maximum they will pay in the event of a rebuild is B1936000 why dont I just insure it for that ammount- answer - you can no problem.
for thaivisa - does all that make sense? You say in your FAQ the DOI is 10000 per sq.m -can that figure change?
If as you suggest most expat homes are worth B20000 per sq,m - how do you achieve that if the max is set by the DOI?

I agree it is a stupid, annoying rule, but if you are asked for it to renew your extension you will have too.
You just have to make sure the copy you give ( if asked ) leaves you open to least exposure.
ATM cards seem the best bet.
Sunbelt - you started the topic - as experts in this field - do we have any choice?
I think it can be enforced - if they say no card no extension what choice do you have?

Safe journey Jingthing - our eyes are peeled for the yellow perils -to report on your return.!!

Geography was one of my better subjects at school, so please let me assist you. You are in the wrong country, and I cannot see how the planned destruction of the British Parliament by a certain Mr guy fawkes would have any impact on Pattaya or Thailand
If your geography is correct no one is to celebrate July 4th, Xmas or NewYear or any non asian festival in Thailand.
Next party will be April 13-15th 2551
Oops! forgot Loy Krathong this month!!!!!!!1
Thanks To Sunbelt For Visa.

If you have the correct paperwork you do not need a visa company. They use some of your fee to 'arrange' things. If you are happy to pay the 'extra' -that you will not know about- that is your choice.
