  1. This country is getting seriously out of control, the police need to start actually doing proactive police work rather than reactive.

These youths have far too easy access to guns and carry them with impunity, after an incident like this the dragstrip should be closed down and those involved get a lifetime ban when or if it ever opens again, these youths must be taught that this sort of behaviour is not acceptable

The police need to start doing police work full stop, rather than blatantly acting as security guards and janitors to the wealthy, property-owning classes.

  2. It's poverty food:it uses starches, fats and sugars in place of the more expensive proteins to provide calories as cheaply as possible. And nut and egg protein too, which is cheap compared to meat.

Pizza, pasta, polenta, crostini, potatoes and corn are some European equivalents: food that appears healthy because it's low in animal fats, but in fact is quite stodgy.

  3. All countries engage in dual pricing to some extent. British universities charge foreign students 4-8 times in tuition fees what they charge nationals, because they can get it and for no other reason. Tourists in London who aren't canny enough to get an Oyster card (and pay the £5 deposit) are charged double fare on the tube.

If you can't speak Thai, you're at a massive disadvantage .

  4. I love these claims made by some that they have never charged a higher price in Thailand because they are a foreigner.

Its patently total rot, but they cling to the claim in the expectation that the rest of us are dumb enough to believe it.

No foreigner who has been spending money in Thailand for more than a few weeks can reasonably claim they always charged a higher price because they are a foreigner.

Just as no foreigner who has been spending money in Thailand for more than a few weeks can reasonably claim they are never charged a higher price because they are a foreigner.

People making either of the two claims are not inhabiting the Thailand the rest of us live in - They are living in a Thailand which is a fabrication of their own imagination.

I say it again - No foreigner in Thailand is always charged a higher 'foreigner price'. - No foreigner in Thailand is never charged a higher 'foreigner price'.

Those who make such claims are simply not telling the truth.

    Cool story, bro.

  6. I think I'll unsubscribe from this parade of ignorance and bigotry.....

What did you expect from a forum populated mainly by Boomers who are terrified their pensions will be sacrificed to pay for economic growth, and that the kids who are now facing having to work until they die to pay for a 30-year boomer retirement will suddenly realise how much they're getting screwed and do something about it?

Perhaps those very same baby boomers Paid into the system throughout their working life, paying of course for the previous generation, just as the present workforce has to pay for the state pensions of those now retired. Who are the present kids who will have to work until they die?. Yes, The age of retirement will be put back by a couple of years, why, because due to better health care people are simple living longer, couple this with the fact that size of the workforce is becoming a smaller percentage of the population, or simple put, fewer workers supporting more pensioners, and guess what when YOU do receive your state pension, your children will have an even bigger burden.

To go back to the original topic, yes it would be a good thing if the Thai's where to receive a better safety ( if they have one ) net. Just as one had to be put on place in the UK many years ago, but if this does come about, I hope they do not follow the UK system and allow it to be abused.

You know, don't you, that the generation you write off so casually to sacrifice for your own comfort will soon have their hands on the reins of power and will be deciding where to make the cuts, don't you?

The arrogance, selfishness and entitlement that characterises the boomer generation is astounding.

  8. "However, 14% says they would try to stay away from HIV patients, whom have been described as "disgusting" by 2% of the respondents. 4% say they feel disgust toward AIDS patients."

Such enlightened, empathic and heart warming views. Lets hope they stay safe, hey.

I was surprised at such a low % for these. Humans are instinctively disgusted by things that are harmful to them.

HIV isn't harmful unless there's blood-to-blood contact with an HIV carrier. There's no reason at all to be disgusted by HIV unless you engage in unprotected sex or IV drug use with people who have it.

You can't get sick from shaking the hand of a leper - would you do it? Disgust isn't a rational decision based on fact, it's an emotional decision based on perception.

That's 'prejudice' that you're describing. I wouldn't shake a leper's hand because leprosy can be contagious. HIV is not contagious unless there is blood to blood contact, therefore any disgust that you feel for HIV positive people is your own problem.
