1. Hi Khun Jean,

I totally agree with you! I have been gradually, deleting all Thai people from our life and needs. I always feel better as time goes on without them. I just have a few areas that I am not totally independent and these areas get more difficult as the years pass.

I do not accept the way I am treated, and have tried various ways to approach certain problems. But that doesn't mean I found the good way, in fact I have never found the good way. I have found a way to anticipate 90% of problems that usually occur ...but there are always new issues I have no experience with, for example, kid to kid, friendships. But even that I can anticipate many problems, doesn't always work well with all situations.

Sometimes, like lately, I have had a bunch of weird situations happen, all having to do with my kid, and other kids, and their parents. I can only guess what are the real reasons for the problems. I only can say that my amount of time here has taught me, that whatever the problem is, nobody will really tell me the issue, they will lie about it. Then I am stuck trying to figure out what/why the lie might mean/represent. And that probably, mostly leads to the wrong guess/answer.

Do you think it's possible that you don't actually want to live in Thailand?

Reading Amykat's comments, i wonder how you draw that conclusion. IMO there is no doubt about her desire to live in LOS. That she is on a way struggling, seeing her comments on this thread, is clear. She cares alot more than you make it look like. If not, she would not wrote extensively on this thread. Better would be for you to see her glass as halvefull instead of halfempty. Anyway, just my take on reading her comments.

If you don't want any contact with the people of a country that you live in, how can it be said that you want to live in a place? The way the Raj did, importing your own culture and keeping contact with 'the natives' to the basic requirements of economic necessity? Is this how farang want to live in Thailand? Blaming your ignorance and insularity on perceived weaknesses in the Thai character? It's a less honest version of what the Russian mobs are doing openly and even that great despot Cecil Rhodes wasn't this cowardly and callous.

Do you wonder that so many foreigners have bad experiences in Thailand?

ps: 'Khun' is not a title one grants to oneself.

2. So, yes, with the OP, I am all into the "What the hell is the matter with people"?? I am ready to be told what it is.

That was a long post and i understand the situation that you find yourself in as it sound very familiar. I am male by the way and had this treatment for a little while.

The question is: "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Fix the problem, don't accept how you are treated.

Change your surroundings, whatever it takes.

Associating with idiots will make your live worse and you have zero chance to change them.

3. To many Thais you wouldnt even be considered "family", whereas the Uncle is and why would anyone report to you ? I know this as I was in the same situation, 8 years ago none of my now family could speak Engkish and I spoke little Thai, no one in the family has ever telephoned me, only the wife, everything goes through her, its not a deliberate bypass its just easier for them to communicate that way.

Although I am far from fluent, I do speak Thai. Communication is not a problem.

But I do understand what you are saying. I am an outsider, and do not need to be considered

And, you are not welcome, you are disliked, even to the point of being hated.

Thailand is the most xenophobic country on the planet. coffee1.gif

You haven't been to Vietnam then.

4. In before some self righteous farang says all thais don't care about you and ignore the fact that ppl from their countries do the same thing too.

I can't speak for the rest of Europe, but in Britain if you took a child without informing their guardian - whatever nationality - you'd be liable to arrest for kidnap.

Edit: sorry, didn't realise that someone else had already made the same point.

5. It seems that every day, and certainly at a few times a week, a story like this pops into my news feed. The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office warn visitors:

124,855 people were killed in road traffic accidents between 2000 and 2010 meaning that on average there were over 12,000 deaths a year during this period. In the UK there have been on average about 3,000 deaths from road traffic accidents each year over the past decade. In any comparison of these statistics, you should also note that there is a difference in the method of calculating statistics for road deaths in Thailand (at the scene of the accident) and the UK (within 30 days of the accident). The risk of death or injury on the road increases if you travel at night.

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand/safety-and-security

I wasn't aware of this. In Thailand if you don't die immediately at the scene of the accident, you're not actually dead. It truly is a magical place.

They warn against all but essential travel to Songkhla and Narathiwat on the grounds of risk of terrorism but don't issue similar warnings for the far more likely possibility of dying in a road accident.

6. Haha. I love how it only takes a mention of Taksin to get the ThaiVisa chimps out fapping and hurling turds at each other. It's a vast archipelago of red-faced white men inconsolably angry about something that they don't understand, can't change and that doesn't really affect them. It's like a PG Tips advert where the chimps are given a pocket calculator.

Never change, TV. You are perfect the way you are.

7. Those are the kind of people why all of the people see black people are all scammers and up to no good!

From internet scammers, identity fraud, drug dealers, drug couriers, gun smugglers, and everything that is bad in this world are from them! so tell us why do all of us don't have a good impression on this kind of people?

Many black people out there are doing good and kind but this kind of wannabe criminals are destroying the image of all blacks.

Those are the kind of people why all of the people see white people are all scammers and up to no good!

From internet scammers, identity fraud, drug dealers, drug couriers, gun smugglers, bank bailout fraud, illegal English teachers, massive rewards for failure and everything that is bad in this world are from them! so tell us why do all of us don't have a good impression on this kind of people?

8. If I had little money and was on long-term overstay, I wouldn't be heading for Phuket. It seems as if busting foreigners on overstay is top priority there and spot-checking of passports is de rigeur. Not carrying one seems to be a big deal and reason for arrest or further pavement detention. I have never seen this happen here in Chonburi.

So, on reflection, even though I have got lots of money and am not on overstay, I won't be going to Phuket anyway as I would rather not be hassled by the uber-corrupt cops for no reason.

9. did you get married in Thailand or Canada?

I married in Thailand and her sponsorship is still in process. She will get the Permanent Residence status in next year probably in Feb. I bought the one million dollars home before marriage to protect my asset in Canada

And they say romance is dead.

I cannot imagine spending my life with someone form whom I have to protect my assets. Trophy wives ftw!

10. Would you be asking this same question if you were married to a women from your country? Or because she is Thai?

a valid point, however in his country there is marriage contracts, and lows that hold up both parties rights pretty equally,

worst case he could be still sure to get back 50% of what he spent on the condo.

as for the OP:

since divorce also is in your mind, someplace...

the simple solution:

RENT!

for once a year visits you dont want to own a place, pay year-round maintanence and whatnot.

i dont know (or care really) but your post sound a bit that this 7 mThb is a larger part of the savings...if yes, should think carefully, or downsize maybe a bit? less can still buy a decent place.

Rentr is money in the toilet. Marriage is based on trust. If you don't trust, then don't marry.

Money spent on a house is money in the toilet if you end up losing it.

Thinking about things is often quite rewarding.

11. I wonder how many of these people that did drive these cars home, will lose that home to the bank when they no longer can afford to pay the loan.

How many friends/relatives will be in the same trouble because they co-signed for the loan?

I think they would just take the car before they start chasing people for houses.

They do, but given that new cars lose a big chunk of their value as soon as they're driven off the forecourt at the same time as the loan interest is accruing, the car alone is never going to be enough so they seize other assets to cover the deficit.

Credit purchase is a disgusting game that only profits pigs.

12. Could it be that he is a Nigerian scammer who had scammed the wrong people and they are seeking sweet revenge? clap2.gif

Oh dear. You really should read at least some of the thread before jumping in.

And your point/opinion is?

A... he is a scammer who was revenged upon.?

B... He is a crook who needed a police report to give to the bike shop so he can get away with steeling the bike?

C... ?

FYI: I read ALL the threads.

That we've already dealt with that. If you immediately assume him to be a scammer just because he's black African, you are by definition racially prejudiced and should probably join the queue at the natural history museum to see if they'll accommodate you with the rest of the jurassics.

13. The story sounds far fetched and his account of the story doesn't make sense.

From the witnesses perspective it would back up his account but come on, this doesn't happen randomly in Phuket without provocation.

Bike jacking would be very low on Phukets crime list. I agree there is something more to this story
How you know?

Other nationals are also subject to crime here especially white tourist and more than nigerians i am sure.

And sure you never think like there is something more about it when it is a white farang.

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Hey pal where did you see anyones nationality or colour get mentioned by me or Hans?? Your just looking for an excuse to pull out the race card

If you think he's just, I can't see why you complain.

14. If 499 out of 500 Nigerians are some sort of scammers then assuming this one is (especially with this kind of a story) is not racist. It's just a statistics.

I don't have anything against African people at all. In my country we don't even have any kind of black people and I seriously don't care, but sometimes when I read a story like this... I would assume he's up to no good. If you insist on calling that racist go ahead but it's not about skin color.

I personally know one guy from Africa that is not dealing drugs in Thailand. However, he was up to (before, don't know now) "no good", and now he's retired (or it just seems that way).

Are 499/500 Nigerians scammers? I've worked with four Nigerians and none of them were scammers. Have I been lucky?

4 out of 170 million... no, not really.

You don't really get this 'statistics' business do you?

15. spending the rest of his time in Bangkok running his own business?

Long over due for a clean out of these undesirables and the individuals that assist there business endeavors in Bangkok.

A new broom sweeps clean even from Dubai.

Amazing how a little time in Thailand turns everybody racist. I know there are a lot of Nigerian scammers around but its a bit harsh just to assume if he's black them he must be one of them...if you go to the markets in BKK there are many Nigerians buying shoes and other garments for export..
I have followed this forum for a few years now and plan on moving there next year. I initially followed this site as a way of getting some inside news and info presented in an English format to help me with the move. Seeing the continual, overtly racist comments has made wonder what has happened to these people? Did they become jaded, cynical and racist after arriving here or is it that they moved here because their views were not acceptable in their countries of origin?

It seems the mods are fairly lax in enforcing the rules with the older "untouchable" members which seems to have had the result of creating a group living in their little farang bubble, oblivious to the fact that their views are completely out of touch with what is acceptable in the real world. Not a great way of attracting new members when much of what can be seen is negativity and racism.

I hope someone puts me out of my misery if I become sad and judgemental like them after living in Thailand for a while.

Farang immigrants often become disillusioned with the country they've chosen to live in. Chief among their complaints is what they see as the superstitous, insular nature of the (largely rural-origin bargirl) Thais that they meet. Instead of just finding somewhere else more to their liking, many of them respond by becoming equally insular, bigoted and atavistic, for which many posts in this thread are evidence.

I recommend that you read The Black Gentlemen of Trong Suan. It's a vivid and compelling document of this process.

17. Just wondering if any of these comments contradict the following forum rule?

7) Not to post slurs or degrading comments directed towards any group on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

Just a couple perhaps? I guess Nigerians are an exception

Incredible that it's filled with the sort of atavistic savages that ThaiVisa posters normally aren't too keen on.
