1. As usual the desperados with Thai businesses are doing their best to quell any negativity about Thailand's tourist industry.

Who would open or buy a business related to the Thai tourist industry now? Please, anyone??

On the other hand, Cambodia is booming and developing rapidly, albeit from a low base, and their policies are very business friendly and tourists do like a new destination. It's everything Thailand used to be 10-15 years ago when we all really enjoyed it.

Thailand's been done to death and the Thai people have definitely lost their smiles. This latest stuff (that's all over CNN and BBC) is in no way helpful.

Put that together, and, as I say, who'd invest in Thai right now?

  2. As if Thailand's tourism industry wasn't already in trouble, now this stupidity we've seen in the last few days.

However, this countries loss will only benefit the tourism industries of neighbouring countries such as Cambodia and Vietnam.

If you've invested in Thailand, start divesting or start preparing for losses.

  3. "Did Your Father Teach You To Work Hard And Be Succesful?"

Yes. That's why I am successful and can live anywhere in the world, walk through any door and associate with whomever I like including heads of state down to the sleaziest of Pattaya hookers.

However, in SE Asia this is not the case. These kids (especially the boys) have role models who are usually undisciplined, uneducated, characterless men who are without honor and dignity. That's why they usually turn out to be the <deleted> that they are. Of course there are exceptions, but they are in the minority.

This is not only confined to Thailand but right across Se Asia.

It's obvious to anyone who's lived here for longer than 5 minutes.

  4. You can find love without money. However, it helps if you are lovable. eg. have a personality, some charisma and a sense of humour. If you look after you body. If you have healthy habits. If you make decent money and have a future(not really contradictory, it shows you have some intelligence). If you know how to treat a lady.

These are all traits most girls like, whether they be Thai or other.

But even with these traits, we are in a different culture to our own in which a successful man will be expected to take care of his woman and possibly her family.

But there is genuine love in Thailand, no doubt. But most people make the age-old mistake of looking for it in the wrong places.

I wonder if there's any chance of them running this service from U-Tapao also - that would be handy. Bangkok Airways already use U-Tapao for flights to Samui and Phuket so this might be a logical extension to their operations.

DM

Bangkok Airways had a flight from Utapao-Phnom Penh, circa '99-2002. They stopped the route because of lack of passengers. I used to fly it frequently for my visa runs and... Planes that could hold up to 70 something passengers rarely had more than 30. It was sooo easy, I used to leave Jomtien at 9:30am and usually be checking into my hotel in PP by 1-1:30pm.
Who knows, maybe 7 years later, the business would be there?
There's certainly more to do in Cambodia now than there was a few years ago, so I think that route would work now. Are there any flights out of Utapoa at all now?

I think Bangkok Airways were talking about BKK-Sihanoukville, but they are also mentioning Samuii as a hub, so that will be interesting.

  6. I am in Thailand now and to be honest, every time I come back these days I ask myself "why". Cambodia is developing fast and will soon give the Thais a real run for their money in the tourism market. Friendlier, cheaper, more laid back, more interesting and not "done to death".

I saw this story on a Khmer forum. It's an announcement from Bangkok Airways. Bangkok Aiways will fly from Angkor Wat (Siem Reap) to Sihanoukville this winter, and then in 2009 fly from BKK-Sihanoukville.

That will give them 3 entry points. Phnom Penh in the centre, Angkor Wat in the north and the beaches of SihanoukVille in the south on the Gulf of Thailand.

There will be no need for me to do my usual stopover in Thailand now. Sorry to all you Thai-ophiles, but it really is getting noticeably non-friendly here.

  7. Stuart McGill has denied he was asked to retire after turning up late for one of the days play in the 2nd test against the Windies.

But Oz got the desired result either way.

Why did he have such a good record in tests? Because he was only ever selected for turning, spin friendly pitches, and he always had absolute quality up the other end, such as Warne or McGrath.

Now that he's had to play on all surfaces his weaknesses have been revealed. Time to get out before that average goes as high as the price of oil.

  8. after 1 year if you are still trying, i think its time to move on.. give that gift to yourself

I haven't been trying for a year, I've known her for a year. I've only been trying for a month or so.

Anyway, I got her chocolates and she was very happy with that. Good suggestion.

However, the other suggestions such as gold, houses, cars, money, beauty salons, concerts and food would have also worked I'm sure.
A dildo , it will show that you want to take care .

All that will show her is that I want her to take care of herself, and I don't want that yet because I haven't even got in her pants yet, have I?

I just want to be sure I understand.

You are 'dating' a young, straight, sincere, honest virgin in a country where (at least publicly), virginity is kept until marriage. And, assuming she is all of the above, and not a seasoned bar-girl (seafood optional), she would probably only sleep with you before marriage if she thought that you would marry here.

But you are already involved with someone else, and you want her to be just your 'bit on the side'?

Did I get that right?

Also, is she really a university student?

I'm not sure she's a virgin and that's not really important. I'd be a hypocrite if it was. She may or may not have had bf's in the past, but as I say, not important. But she always goes out with friends and goes home with them. I've never seen her with a guy in a year. She has a fairly wealthy sister(thanks to her sisters husband) and hasn't had to have bf's for money,(short or long time).

It is true that the average Khmer girl is not looking for a short term relationship but rather a future husband. (there are exceptions, eg those who work in bars or massage parlours etc). After living in Thailand and Cambodia for a couple of years in each country I can confidently say that the cultures are very different.

"Maybe for her 25th when I'm ready for my first Mia Noi"

In this comment I was saying that I might get here a dildo for her 25th if and when I'd been with her for 4 years (she's 21 now), then I would be looking for a Mia Noi.

She wont be the Mia Noi.

    Koa Chai Mai?

She's not a uni student and has never been to uni. So I guess chocolates will be fine.

  11. Other than money...which of course always rates #1... most Thai women I've met here have a thing for foreign chocolate... They're always asking me to bring them back some...when I go abroad... Many seem to like to Rocher (?) brand, which of course you can buy here in LOS... But good chocolate from outside Thailand always is a hit...

There are, however, some ladies who prefer imported wine and/or whiskey.... but you haven't given a clue as to whether she's in that category or not...

Perfume, if you get the right kind through some advance scouting, always goes well...

And then, of course, there's always the idea for a tastefully wrapped box of scented massage oil and glow-in-the-dark condoms... which... is my personal favorite to give to a prospectice GF... :o

You've just reminded me. About 6 months ago her and her friend asked me to buy them farang chocolate.

It's done. End of conversation. Thanks.

  12.
buying gift? Umm..hard to say..
It depends on her characteristic...her age, career...as well.
How close of your relationship...

OP, please tell more about her...
She's 21, quite pretty, not a lot of experience with guys, works at a guest house that is owned/run by her older sisters' Swedish husband. She's a little immature as well I suppose.

I've known her for about a year, gone out with her a few times (with friends/chaperones). I'm sure she likes me but she plays games, (the immaturity?). She sometimes sms me and asks me out, but when I turn up she's always with friends and it never goes anywhere. I have never kissed her or even held her hand.

  13. I'm not sure about land in Burma but if you're looking for a good bargain I am selling the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Personally I think it would be a better buy than land in Burma.

The Bridge was built in 1932 but has been constantly maintained and painted, and is still in good shape. PM me for the purchase price.

(As for payment, I only accept a bank transfer to my bank account at the National Bank of Nigeria)

  14. What a load of crap. I have a wonderful Thai gf who would never do this. So I don't think you should generalise all Thai girls because of your own experience. This type of thing can happen in any country if you pick the wrong girl.

Now, I don't know for sure, but I would bet money that this girl you're talking about was a previous employee of "the Industry".

They are renowned for mental health problems. It happens to almost evry farang who chooses a girl who has ever worked (even for a short period). The guy is also usually 20-40 years older than the girl which obviously raises an alert as to her long term motives.

Just another one biting the dust. You wont be the last. :o

  15. Just returned from a short trip to Krabi and Ao Nang and was surprised to see that by comparison, both seem much more heavily populated by tourists than Patong or Kata. Our hotel in Ao Nang reported 73% occupancy. My best sense is that there is a gradual shift away from Phuket to other places, including those already mentioned.

Is 73% occupancy supposed to be good? or bad?

  16. I've only been to Phuket once and I was bitterly disappointed.

I've been to 30+ countries and all of SE Asia and I'd say Phuket was one of the slickest of con jobs I've seen. (apart from India of course)

Overpriced, superficial, bad service, bad attitudes, etc etc. I didn't feel comfortable or welcomed.

I can see why big tour operators are now seeking out other alternatives such as Cambodia.

  17. Thailand is becoming as expensive as Farangland to be entertained now, whether it's beer or other adult entertainment.

At an expensive bar in Cambodia you can pay $2 (60 bt) a beer but most of the bars sell it for $1 (30bt).

And the girls, well, far better looking and a lot better attitude for less than half the kep dang.

  18. Women lured into sex by aphrodisiac coffee, juice

Pavena issues warning after victims speak out

A warning has been issued by a women's foundation about coffee and orange juice said to be spiked with a sex stimulant being given to unsuspecting women. Sold as instant coffee and orange juice in packets, the drink is suspected to be heavily laced with an aphrodisiac. It leaves drinkers excessively aroused, according to Pavena Hongsakula, chairwoman of the Pavena Hongsakula Foundation for Women and Children. She said the drink is especially dangerous to women because it triggers an uncontrollable urge to have sex with the men who set out to take advantage of them. Pavena said she was told about it three weeks ago by a university student named Bee. The young woman said she knew a man through an internet contact and the two eventually met in person over a meal at the man's house. The man made her a cup of coffee which he said was a new formula health drink. Bee drank the coffee and shortly afterward she felt a surge of arousal and an instant desire for sex. She then agreed to sleep with the man, Pavena said. After the girl returned home, she regretted losing control of herself. She suspected she had been under the influence of the coffee. Pavena said her foundation heard a similar story from a bar hostess. A bar patron offered her a cup of coffee which smelt very aromatic and tasted sweet. About 10 minutes after drinking it, she became dazed and felt a ''sudden unstoppable sexual excitement'' which drove her to have sex with the customer.

I've had the same reaction from bar hostesses after buying them a few San Mig lights or Spys. Maybe the authorities should investigate those drinks as well. There must also be a chemical on some 1000 baht notes because that also has the same effect.

  19. It's completely natural for a man to have sex with as many women as possible. That's why us humans are still here. Promiscuity got us where we are today.

It's still the norm in many parts of the world for a successful man to have many wives.

However, the rise of the feminie movement in the western world has seen an attempt to <deleted> with nature and has tried to dictate to us "disgusting, perverted men" as to how we should go against 3 million years of evolution and stop screwing around.

Personally, I love all of my girlfriends and I treat them like princesses and they love me back because of that.

Asian girls are far more advanced and intelligent in their thinking when it comes to men. The 2 girls I'm with now (1 in Thai & 1 in Cambo, both average girls in clerical jobs) have both hinted that it's ok for me to screw around as long as they never find out nor any of their friends/family find out. They know and respect men far more than their farang sisters which makes for great relationships, IMHO.
