  1. This all depends on what insurance the other party had - and what cover you had.

Suggest you ask your Broker as they would have all the facts and help you through with the procedure.

Mine is a first class insurance. Her insurance expired. She agreed to pay me for the damages but has since gone "uncontactable". Viriyah has her contact details. Back where I come from, I definitely don't have to pay first. Seems like that is not the standard procedure in THailand? I looked through Viriyah's English insurance policy and there is no mention that I have to pay first though.

I'm also wondering whether its better for me to make a report to police about her driving without insurance?

When you say her insurance had expired - is that her voluntary or CTPL ? In any case leave it to your Broker and Viriyah as they will take care of you.

You will not have to pay anything (unless you have a deductible) as Viriyah will arrange the place for your vehicle to be repaid and pick up the bill.

  2. Only problem with these insurance companies mentioned is that there's an age limit.

AFAIK the only viable travel-insurance WITHOUT age limit is BUPA.

    BTW I'm 75

    Yermanee

Unfortunately BUPA is only partial insurance if traveling, however Thai Visa Brokers can offer full travel insurance up to age 85

  3. Car Insurance For Car Older Than 10 Years AIA will only give 3rd class insurance

unfortunately that is correct. obviously i can't get a better than 3rd class insurance for one of my cars which is 20 years old but valued at 2 million Baht :(

Vehicles up to 15 years can usually be insured 2+1 and then on to 20 years on application.

    And 3+1 ??

Seen a very clean 95 car I might get for the missus as a round towner. not worried on theft or fire much but would like some collision cover. At 16 years old now thats not possible ??

Sorry, 16 years is too old to start any insurance other than 3rd Class.

  4. Sorry it is not possible just to take out 'life and injury' of the driver as (apart from they are all standard packages) the insurance is for the vehicle not the insured in Thailand.

I was asking the opposite...whether it is possible to get insurance on only the vehicle and not the driver.

I think I had that once with a company called Viraya or something - i can check and write later.

As has been pointed out it is the vehicle that is insured.

All insurance companies cover the same basic points.

  5. Car Insurance For Car Older Than 10 Years AIA will only give 3rd class insurance

unfortunately that is correct. obviously i can't get a better than 3rd class insurance for one of my cars which is 20 years old but valued at 2 million Baht :(

  6. So what does 2+1 actually cover..

If my wife drives into another car, and its her fault..

The other car is covered ??

Her car is covered (to only 100 ??) ??

If theres no other car involved ??

I am making the assumption that if the other driver is at fault all claims and all damage falls to them on their policy anyway.

2+1 covers Third Party, Fire & Theft + if you are in an accident with another vehicle (your fault or theirs) your damage will be paid for - as well as theirs. The amount of cover is what is agreed between you and the insurance company at time of application.

If no other vehicle involved e.g. you drive off the road into a wall, then you pay - otherwise it would be full 1st Class !

Other party at fault then yes, they pay.

  7. Vont is correct by saying you do not have to pay now, only 'sometime' before the expiry date - a day before is sufficient !

However where Vont is wrong is where he says :

Insurance biz is very lucrative indeed, you ought to be more creative to attract more biz,

particularly new biz which is even more lucrative in terms of commissions, no?

The ins. biz at present is not lucrative - you only have to see the annual reports to realise that - with one of the very biggest having to be 'helped' by the Government to stave off bankruptcy and a huge national scandal not too long ago.

As for more lucrative commissions ? Not sure where there came from as the commissions are always the same from new or renewed policies !

  8. It is all well and good but is there any insurance out there that will insure over 65 that is the question many people would like to know at a resonable rate not the estortion price some of them charge

This doesn't deserve a reply since neither you nor the OP have given enough details.

Do you only need coverage in Thailand?

Do you need regular or occasional coverage in the US?

    What's your definition of "estortion"?

As thighlander says above, IMG offers great value for many of us. They also will offer new coverage to people up to 74 years of age.

Quite correct but we shall suggest a couple of premiums which can be offered for Euro200,000 (approx 8.5m Baht ) of coverage as a guidance.

    >65 the premium would be Euro1,500 (64,000 Baht)

    66 - 70 Euro1,932 (82,500 Baht)

    Hope this helps ?

  9. The bottom line is if you rent a property in Thailand then you are liable for any damage that happens e.g. rain comes through the roof and destroys the furniture, a fire etc etc. This is more so in a condo where you are liable for damage to (say) the unit below if your pipe has a leak,

Insurance for property is not expensive but to go without may be extremely expensive !

For all you insurance needs use Thai Visa Brokers and ask for an on-line quote HERE

  10. There are many companies who offer the accident, sickness (AXA, BUPA etc) but when you talk about redundancy, that is a little more difficult and needs more information from you.

As a member of Thai Visa you may use the Thai Visa Brokerage service so for help and an on line quote - please go HERE

  11. With April ( and many other companies) one does need to give notice at least 2 months for cancellations. As you mentioned this is standard practice across many European countries and one must be aware countries have different rules/laws.

However saying that, it is impossible for April for bring to someonet to court for this while you are living in Thailand. Bottom line : the whole story ends if you do not contact them and ignore all correspondence - your so called Agent should have helped you on this !

  12. Quoting the OP "yes dont u love it when peeps see their tyres slashed and one whole side of the car panel got scratched with a fruit knife?

im assuming it wont be covered by insurance?"

Don't assume too quickly insurance wont pay, especially when it happens the first time . Once when I took out a car insurance, I inquired if they would also pay if when drunk I would drive the car against a tree. The answer was yes. Never put it to the test though.

1st Class insurance will pay for this type of damage to your property.
