  1. OK then, @+ or 3+ must be what they meant, altho they have posters that refer to it as Class 4 and class 5.

Oddly it is very hard to get any info on these options. I don't even see them listed on an ywebsuites, they all show Cklass 1 as the only thing that includes coverage to your own vehicle.

I live in Prachinburi, no where near Chiang Mai, and the local Viriyah office speaks no English at all. Unfortunately neither does anyone at the only other insurance company with an office in Prachinburi.

I know there are companies which are more English-speaking-friendly but none of these as far as I can tell have an office in or even near my province, which concerns me. I don't want to have to wait hours for someone to get to me if there is an accident.

Does anyone know how that works? i.e. do companies have arrangements with someone in provinces where they have no office to respond to calls? How do I figure out iof a company has the capacity to send someone to my location in a timely manner?

Sheryl do not fear, you are not the only one who lives outside the main areas ! The reputable companies have people all over the country waiting to help you 24hrs a day should you have a problem. A phone call to a central number will start the process and the nearest engineer will be alerted and sent to you - just make sure you know where you are otherwise they will have trouble locating you.

As for information on the companies web sites I cannot comment but then that is why one should use the services of a reputable Broker ;)

  2. Viriyah is an insurance company who often say different things to other insurance companies and so tend to make it hard for their customers - plus their general lack of English can present problems.

There is no Class 4and 5 as such but I think they are getting it mixed up with Class 2 +1 and Class 3 + 1. These two products are the standard 2nd or 3rd Class with an addition of an agreed amount for your vehicle if involved in an accident with another vehicle. These are good alternatives for the older vehicles up to 15 years.

  3. You only need to insure the contents of the condo, including your fittings and fixtures.

The unit, walls and the space should be insured by the Condo.

As that is the majority of the cost of many condo's you don't insure for the price you paid.

This is quite correct the structure (shell) of the building is - or should be !! - insured so what you have to insure is the 'inside'. The way to think of this is to imagine the worst case scenario, a fire. Now if the fire gutted your condo and you have just the concrete shell left, how much is it to replace everything from the floor tiles to the ceiling ?

  4. This may be a silly question, but...

is it possible to get car insurance that is just car (fire/theft/damage) and 3rd party insurance? i.e. not "life and injury of the driver" which is me and I already have adequate coverage for that.

Just want to be insured at a reasonable cost in case car is stolen or totalled...

(it's an 8 year old Honda BTW)

    ??

Sorry it is not possible just to take out 'life and injury' of the driver as (apart from they are all standard packages) the insurance is for the vehicle not the insured in Thailand.

  5. Hi TV-insurance,

so my 1993 Honda 1.6L old bat would be able to get what from AXA (I like their free road side service add-on - and their service when I had them before was good).

I prefer cover for fire/theft as well as at least SOME cover for damage (limited to collision w. other vehicle only - but prefer if not limited by that naturally).

If not AXA do you have another option that will accept my above car with more than just standard 3rd class? Heard LMG will - and in this thread Siam Commercial Bank was also mentioned.

    Cheers!

Thaivisainsurance, that sounds good: is that 2+1 with AXA or whom? And you you specify the cover (damage on own car? to what level?) Cheers!

AXA is one of several companies who offer 2 +1

As for the level of coverage, that obviously depends to a certain extent on the age of the vehicle.

Sorry Firefan but one has to start the insurance before 15 years - see junkofdavid2 above. At 17 years 3rd Class is your option.

  6. Must agree this does sound strange. Just to get things right, you were insured with Viriyah and presumably(?) they sent you a renewal letter which you paid. Now you are saying their sales staff wants to increase your cover and so you have have to pay more premium ?

As you are a Thai Visa member may we suggest you scan and email us a copy of the policy and we will look at it and try and help you - all part of the Thai Visa service

  7. :o Amateur Insurance Agents ( AIA )

    :D

Very true what you're saying and not just AIA, many of them are just AMATEURS or shall I say ruthless businesses. You see those glossy brochures with "we care" crap. All bull.

I am with Premier now. Fingers crossed. Hope they deliver what is in the policy wording, especially if you forked out 78,000 Baht for the yearly premium. LMG I heard offers something quality also, 100% full coverage, I think for around 40k but IPD only though. Anyone insured through LMG?

    To OP,

If you don't mind me asking; how much did you pay for the insurance?

LMG are a good company and are on the Thai Visa Insurance approved list.

Please note they do offer everything – IPD and OPD – however you can choose to opt out of the OPD if you wish.

I was in the LMG office yesterday to renew my auto insurance and asked about health insurance and the girl didn't have any information/brochures in English. She called Bangkok and they told her they don't have any information in English !!! I also tried their websites and when clicking on "English" nothing happens...I've heard from others that they have good & thorough health policies but HOW to get information???? .....and as far as AIA is concerned, they can kiss my &*#@. I signed up with them through a neighbor friend then after about a month I was informed that they don't insure "farangs" for accident insurance.

I called several times to the main office in Bkk to find out WHY and no one could tell me anything....they suck bigtime...and by the way, AIA Thailand has 85 Billion Baht in assets.(do a google search of AIA Thailand if you need "source".

From the sound of it you were in a LMG office but the office was not on the medical side - just house, motor etc ? For all information on the LMG medical (and a quote online) please go HERE

  8. The answer is no they will not cover until the delivery and the baby is 15 days old. She could of gotten coverage before her pregnancy but not after. Insurers do not cover pre existing conditions.

Apparently they would not cover even prior. They do cover her but not the birth.

That's what I'm saying the pregnancy is a prior condition. No insurance company will cover this. After the birth she and the child will be covered, her for the next pregnancy.

Yeah i got you, but he could not get a cover for birth prior her being pregnant. As in insurance company's do not cover birth.even though i find it hard to believe but it is Thailand, so everything is possible

Not quite sure where your 'friend' got that information from but Maternity coverage is available from many insurance companies. When he is ready to obtain coverage for his wife please ask him to go HERE for a quote.

    Thank you

  9. so can anybody tell me then what inpatient care involves? is it only when you stay in the hospital, or does it include medicine, cancer treatment, etc?

the thing is, i don't need insurance for doctor visits, diagnosing and tests, which is probably outpatient care, but i do need covery for treatment.

IPD covers you for when you have to stay in the hospital - usually overnight or in some case more than 6 hours (varies from company to company). It will cover you for the 'general' expenses, room and surgery depending on your benefits - plus OPD follow up for (example) 30 days, again depending on company.

IPD is the most cost effective cover whereas to include OPD tends to be a luxury.

  10. I contacted AA Brokers in Chonburi to get insurance with Bupa. I first corresponded to Peter and then to a girl called Da. When I asked her detailed questions about the insurance she got annoyed with me, telling me that because I am a foreigner I just don't know how things work in Thailand. She made lots of racist and gender assumptions and I started to feel discriminated. When I pointed out to her that her emails were rather upsetting to me, she decided not to contact me again. So no insurance yet.

Please PM us your email address and this will be looked into immediately - thank you.

  11. what i'd like to know, can't one maybe find out what the average prices are without filling out A form?

The only way you will find the answers is to go to the hospital in your local which you are most likely to use and ask. Any figures anyone quotes are pretty meaningless as we all have aspirations of different levels of hospitals/care - plus the costs vary from town to town.

  12. Simon,

you may want to go to your local Siam Commercial Bank. I recently got accident insurance for the wife & daughter which covers clinic visits 100% and was 1200 Baht/year....Kasikorn Bank also has a similar and extended policy as does LMG.

I originally signed up with AIA but was notified that they don't insure expats anymore.....

The original post was for medical insurance not PA (accident) insurance which is quite different - note PA insurance is not expensive as all it covers are 'accidents' ...................

AIA : This is a Life insurance company who "add on" a medical rider.

The banks I mentioned have "medical insurance" and not just accident insurance, LMG has a very good coverage program (IMO) for about 7k/year "full coverage", i.e, hosptial, icu, surgery, etc., not "accident" specifically.

The policy I first took out with AIA wss PA (accident) that also had death benefit as do the others I mentioned, "extended"

You are correct the banks to offer 'basic' medical cover and we agree LMG do offer good plans but unfortunately (for all of us !) you will not get "full coverage" from LMG or any other company for only 7k a year. For LMG the lowest "full cover" i.e. Maxi, premium is 18,515 Baht for the age group 5-18

All PA plans have a death benefit as standard - not 'extended'

  13. We can understand your initial feelings but stress this test has nothing to do with your character in any way. Most Life companies now require these tests once the insured amount goes over a certain amount (varies from company to company).

Unfortunately we all know there are other ways to contract these problems apart from the obvious and so the tests are not a total waste of time for the insurance companies.

  14. The best rule of thumb for medical insurance is to buy as much as one can sensibly afford so rather than try and look for different options why not set a figure and look for the different plans costing that amount ? We at Thai Visa Brokers can offer you all the different plans available for your budget so may we suggest you go Here for the many options ?
