  1. 2 months ago was in Ranong, went into Suzuki main dealer, looked at the Hayate and got all the details...

52,000 baht for the Hayate, this included the paperwork + the Insurance + Road tax... 1st class Insurance they would supply @ 1,620 baht...

About 3 months ago went into Honda a main dealer nearest to me past Bang Yai, at that time the PCX was

70,000 baht this included the paperwork + the Insurance + Road tax... 1st class Insurance they would supply @ 1,800 baht...

As I have not bought yet [within the next 3 weeks] I have no idea what this main dealers Insurance covers... both I asked about 1st class, which was extra..

Of course it could well be that the Companies included Insurance is more than the basic CPTL ?

The price of the PCX has gone up? driving past the same Honda Motorbike showroom last Friday noticed the Red/Black one, so went in to look, was a customers the price now 72,000 baht

Unfortunately the Dealers (not just of bikes but also cars) know nothing about insurance hence the silly premiums you were quoted for 1st Class insurance - you will not get 1st Class insurance for 1,620 Baht.

Two points about Bike insurance : 1 it is hard (and will get harder) to get and 2 it is expensive. The reason behind both of these is that there are simply too many claims because of theft and the danger of riding bikes in this environment.

  2. 3rd class is what you describe, 3rd party medical and cars/bikes, bailbond

I think you are right about it being called 3rd class & apparently its the only option for scooter sized bikes under a certain amount of CC's, ie: Im pretty sure they wont do a 1st class policy on a fino. BUT the way I see it, is if everyone else is covered & ur just up for a fino replacement, then sobeit & at least thats a start.

There are limits on the policy like 200,000 baht per person injured up to 10 million baht, bail bond I think was 200,000. Driver on the insured bike also gets some basic coverage, it wasnt all that flash but certainly better than nothing.

    NeverDie,

Could you please tell me where you get this insurance for a 125 scooter type machine as at present I only have the compulsory 3rd party junk. Even at 2000 baht it seems worth it to me.

    Many thanks,

    Mak

Very simple go HERE and you can buy on-line

  3. Motorbike insurance is the same as any other vehicle and have the following voluntary insurances available to them - as someone said all foreigners (depending on their budgets) should have at least the 3rd Class.

1st Class = Comprehensive i.e. covers the Third Party and damage to your bike.

2nd Class = Third Party, Fire & Theft

    3rd Class = Third Party

    - All include Bail Bond.

These insurances are available to all motorbikes small and large, however as the bike gets older (the same as cars etc) the company may decline certain makes/models.

  4. Is there any additional insurance you can make to cover the rest?

Yes there is the 'voluntary' insurance (just like any other vehicles) available to motorcycles which can cover your property as well as damage to others. Quite frankly if a foreigner dives any type of vehicle then he/she should never depend on the CTPL compulsory insurance.

For any level of vehicle insurance (no matter motorbike, pick-up, car, commercial etc etc) then please go HERE for an on-line quote.

Let Thai Visa look after you properly :)

  5. dancw3 - may we ask where you saw this information please as this applies to the CTPL and not the voluntary insurance ?

As for your statement "since the farang is almost always considered at fault" - this is a little disingenious - unless it really is the foreigners fault !

Whatever you vehicle as a Thai Visa member you can get an on-line quote HERE

  6. For whatever reason, the policy stipulates it excludes coverage for small portable electronics such as laptops, digital cameras, mobile phones and watches...

That's because those things are expensive and likely to be stolen or damaged. The reality of most policies is they only cover the stuff you aren't interested in, and if you do get cover you'll be paying through the nose.

Generally speaking that is quite true but Thai Visa Insurance Brokers does have a couple of Underwriters who will cover the likes of laptops etc . Note : all mobile phones are out I'm afraid for insurance purposes

  7. I am really interested in a couple of the replies above.

I am a 59 year old American and would like to spend part of the year in Thailand, maybe as one poster above said, three months twice a year. I used to live in Australia and I still have an account with Suncorp Bank, and a debit card with them (VISA). So if I use that card, maybe that will solve my problem?? I want to keep my health insurance here in the US, and I am just looking for something that will cover me if I have a problem in Thailand. Not small things (a couple of hundred US dollars) but big problems.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

May we suggest a plan with 'deductibles' ? There are a couple where there are different levels of deductibles - with corresponding levels of discounts. For an on-line quote from Thai Visa Insurance Brokers for these plans please go HERE

  8. This type of problem happens often due to the poor (rushed?) way condos are built. The simple and cheap way to protect yourself is to take out Condo insurance - before anything happens ! This special insurance pays for water damage to your condo PLUS any damage you may cause to other condo units i.e by your water damaging their property.

For dedicated Condo insurance please go HERE

  9. So, as of today, is there a group consensus:

Which is the best health insurance plan currently available to retired farangs living in Thailand... and why?

    Thanks a lot.

Sorry but there is no one plan suitable for all - everyone has different needs.

Talk to your Broker - or Thai Visa Brokers B) - for the best plan for your circumstances

  10. New development, I just sold the car. Now what about the new insurance, can it transfer to new owner? or can I cash in?? Thanks

Can be transferred to new owner - inform the insurance company of their name/address and send their ID/Passport

  11. Hi,

Do you know how much usually costs insurance for 30 sqm condo ?

And if i don't trust the condo company, can i also pay one more insurance for the shell, so that i can be sure to be insured in case of fire or building destruction ?

    Thanks.

Sorry but as an individual you cannot insure just your shell, the whole building has to be done under one policy. Anyone can check if the building is insured by asking the condo's management for a copy of the policy - as you pay towards the policy in your annual service fees, you are entitled to have a copy. Note : do check the amount the shell is insured for !

For a small 30m2 studio the premium is not expensive but naturally depends on what you have inside.
