In Samui, some restaurants will have menus in Thai on the wall and hand a menu to the suckers (i.e: foreigners) for double and triple the price... 

My UK friend, who could speak, read and write Thai, would always make a point of ordering for us from the wall. 

Perplexed the thieving, air-headed rascals...

We did the same in Hawaii, If you showed a Hawaii drivers license, you would get a discount because

your their year around customers, low and high season...

It was called Kamaaina rates, I also get discounts here by showing my Thai license...

If one lives year around in tourist areas, they should get a discount opposed to the person on vacation...

At 63 I moved to the rice paddy's from Maui Hawaii, quite a difference, lived 2 years in the rice paddy's, 10 clicks out of Buriram I found diet, exercise, outlook and giving back is the winner for a good life there, here, anywhere, I also built a swimming pool that contributed to my exercise, now and again allowing a few neighbors in as long as they cleaned up around the area, Education, Education, Education is what you should bring to the table, I taught English free, cleaned areas near or in creeks or lakes, made sure I pulled the legs off grasshoppers before I ate them otherwise they get stuck in your throat, smile all the time, get a dog or 2...

Don't act to well off or a relation might think your better off in sky and then they might think they can move into your nice big Falang home, I built my 2 homes Thai style so I won't stand out to much...

If we would tell them no bag needed, they might start to get the message, they are trained to bag it, so it is done without thinking,

Honestly, I am surprized at the fact that there are no more incidents like this being reported, because I see those european girlies getting $#itfaced to then voluntarily throw themselves in the caring arms of those "oh, so cool" Thai Rasta Beach Boys and Carabao-Style performers (regardless on how much they suck on guitar or vocals) all over the place, may it be Pattaya, Phuket, Samui or Koh Phangan. He was indeed lucky that the ferry team realized his absence and arranged his rescue, and he will no doubt be impressed by the beautiful nurse that cared for him, and he is no doubt hoping that she becomes his girl-friend.
