  1. For those that have sent their 90 day form by mail in Bangkok, how long did it take to receive your receipt back in the mail?

    Thanks.

    Hey

I am not sure whether you meant that you are in Bangkok and have sent the documents to the Bkk immigration

If that is the case you are not allowed to do so

If not, well, your question has been answered

I will disagree with that, unless there is some promulgated Radius in Kilometres and I am outside of it. I live in outer suburban bangkok (approx 25 Klm from Suan Plu) and I mail mine, religiously, via EMS every 90 days. Never got a nastygram from them and no-one says anything when I sign on for another year either.

Receipt times vary, but I reckon the average is a week.

This is good news but then again, either, laws have changed, or, you have been lucky.

I tried to mail at the beginning of the year and had prepared everything to send it out.

I enquired about the dates it had to be sent in to the immigration (on this site) and was told that it could not be done via mail (I am residing in Bangkok).

Nevertheless, I went to the immigration to ask the same question (before the report was due) and was given the same answer (Mind you that was before evryone had to eport to a specific office)

So, until proven wrong I will still report in person at the Suanplu's office (or whatever address it will be in the coming years)

But if you a link telling otherwise please share it with us

  3. If the time comes a Class Action Law suit will be filed with whomever wishes be included.

Not me though (I was referring with regards to the extent of my resources)

I think it would be better to be ready to act than starting to enquire about how to go about it when it is too late

I still think that some of the members (obviously not you) should get in touch with each other if something is considered abusive

Noone knows what tomorrow is made of, but when when its cloudy out there, plan ahead and bring an umbrella along.

Please don't quote me out of context. There is enough misleading information on this subject without adding to my comments as if you are quoting me directly.

If it ever got to the point of being necessary a Class Action Law suit will be filed with whomever wishes to be included. (I will be part of that group when I deem it necessary).

Any such action might be completely unnecessary. The last flare-up regarding Thai Elite was the erroneous reporting that the government were shutting down the program when in fact they were evaluating the programs business ethics and ensuring protection for the members in the way of compensation if the program was to fail. That topic went quiet due to lack of information otherwise.

What is happening now is a result of the ongoing audit. The outcome as yet unknown will take a couple of months. I may well be wrong, but preparing for a class action law suit at this stage may be letting the foot off the clutch a little early....

Well I do apologize for misunderstanding but your comment was a bit misleading. In any case, footing the bill for such an action would be quite expensive , that if one thinks on an individual basis.

Who is talking about preparing for a lawsuit: as you said it is going to take a couple of months before one gets any news. Well in the meanwhile get to know, meet, or at least be able to get in touch with your fellow members.

If nothing drastic happens to the members, then, who knows, you might get new friends; but if something needs to be done...then you will not start from scratch

  4. You and your GF will be abale to access Schengen at any POE. No need to enter in Sweden.

    Hey

I would not be that assertive

Yes one may enter via any port in Europe but the purpose of applying at any particular Consulate is the fact that this is either the firsport of Entry or the main destination (although there is really no way to check it) but no one knows...

  5. I have been reading about the current processing times for UK Visas, both settlement and general visitors, which seem to have shot through the roof of late, supposingly because of a massive increase in applicants.

I suppose this increase is not confined to the UK, I just wondered what the current processing times for Schengen Visas is, specifically to France?

    Hey

If all the documents are in order it takes 3 days to get your passport back (with or without visa) at the French Consulate

Let's say you go ther on Monday and you get your passport back on Thursday

  7. Of course this hadn't involved expenditure of 1 million baht but I regard it as just

symbolic of the mindset here regarding honouring obligations to do anything

    after making an advance payment.

The classic example is buying a condo off the plan.

Yes indeed and the government could easily help buyers overcome that problem

if they really wanted to by enforcing every developer to adopt the Escrow Act.

Didn't that development in Pattaya in the Property Section that went tits up adopt the Escrow Act?

  8. Maybe 3 different threads should be created

    1) Who is happy about the outcome (I had told you, you asked for it and other ...)

    2) Who is unhappy about the way it turns out (apart from the members)

    3) Actual members: this way they could get to know each other and tell the reasons why they were attracted to it

  9. Why does everyone thinks (at least th one who post here) think that buyng into the program has/had something to do with the name

When one enters a membership it has to be paid upfront

Look at some health club (although I am not comparing TEC to theses places) selling life memberships.....what does it mean? How long will these businessess stay around ( not talk about the life expectancy of these members) It can cost hundrded of thousands

Please do understand that people buy a product they believe in - at least at the time they do so - and not for the brand name but for the quality (even if it turns out it could have been a rotten deal)

Well You are (wrongly) reading people's thoughts: all the clubs I have been affiliated to all asked for money upfront (small or big fee but sill a fee)

I have never paid attention to the name of the card: I have always heard about "the program allowing one to get a 5 year renewable tourist visa"

Who are the people who have bought the card? they are certainly not wealthy (as they already get VIP service), not businessmen as they would not need this kind of visa, and certainly not businessmen (who on earth would strike such a lousy deal)

It might come to a shock to you, but I am sure that most of the people have bought the program, not for the name it bears, but for the advantages. I am also convinced that some of them even borrowed at the time.

You are confused. There are the members for whom the card was tailored (they haven't bought it) and the members who actually "bought" it, you should ask them their reasons instead of judging them

Unless this was planned from the beginning: we know that the Elite will never give in, so let's sell the package to idiots who will not be able to defend themselves when they are thrown out

  10. Not stupid but I could never understand why more of these people who

:) considered themselves to be " Elite " were so easily persuaded

Why does everyone thinks (at least th one who post here) think that buyng into the program has/had something to do with the name

When one enters a membership it has to be paid upfront

Look at some health club (although I am not comparing TEC to theses places) selling life memberships.....what does it mean? How long will these businessess stay around ( not talk about the life expectancy of these members) It can cost hundrded of thousands

  11. We've had card holders in our business, waving their card in my face and expecting massive discounts and priveleges. Didn't get them very far....

Well if they did so it can only be for three reasons:

Either your business has registered with the TEC program at one point or another

Or they were not members as I know that TEC provides all members with an updated list of the participating businesses

Or simply they presented you with their cards ( waving...you are near by the sea?) asking you whether this card entitled them to any kind of privileges

I do have a Duty free card and I have asked some shops around (at the beginning) if it woeked: I was turned down but neither of us got upset about it

  12. Hey

You can buy € or £ in Thailand if you are willing to travel with the cash as you are allowed to enter Uk/Europe with up to € 7,000 without any justifications.

Of course it doesn't make the 500.000 but it is already a beginning.

Now if there are two of you then you are allowed to bring in the full amount (and of course if you have the paperwork done then no worries at all)

  13. You may get different types of visas and even two visas of the same type (e.g you have been in Thailand for some months on a Non B, go out, decide to apply for a new one: when you are back to Thailand you just point out which one you want to use)

Therefore it is normal you are being asked that by an official

As said earlier: once you have been granted a visa you may come and go as long as it is valid

  14. Was your wife dealing with Norwegian Norwegian Embassy Staff or Thai Norwegian Embassy staff?

There have been several threads recently about people receiving poor, rude and downright obstructive service from Thai staff employed in (IIRC) UK and Aus Embassies/Consulates which were resolved only when a Embassy-native staffer got involved.

Of course your wife would have to rely on luck in getting a Norwegian native staffer with good Thai as well, as the above were resolved between native English speakers thus excluding intervention by overzealous Thai staff. Do your Norwegian friends have any other Norwgeian expat friends still in BKK who could go along with your wife and insist on dealing with a Norwegian staffer?

    Hey

As it has already been suggested go back to the French Consulate: I guess that you have at least a copy of the documents included in visa request for Norway.

If you are afraid your wife is not able to filll the visa form by herself address a message to this particular Consulate but in any case she can write in Thai (and you could help her with the answers using internet)

One thing though: documents have to be translated to French and you will have to hold a hotel reservation (I do understand you have got all the other necessary documents)

I guess that your wife hasn't left her passport with the Norwegian Consulate meaning that her request hasn't been formally registered therefore she will have no problems going to another country's Consulate.

  15. Hey Jingthing: my friend is thai (finacially sound) and has an almost two decades of visa history to different countries to Europe, then to Schenghen and of course to Asia

I also have had a long conversation with some official: Trust me it is a security issue (and the visa was not refused: I just took the decision to stop being bullied). It was just the last straw and decided to have the application cancelled (I do reckon that the interview was in the line of the application but at the time it was simply too much to bear)

Of course, as you might understand, I have not been able to detail the case as accuratly as I would have liked...

  16. Well Just to let you know that I called the consulate to know whether the visa had been granted (application 7 days earlier and 30 days search for flat and flight)

I had to repeat the name three times, the officer going back and forth between the names, had to repeat again the motive of the HOLIDAYS (as if that had not been stated and written on the application): result "The consul wants to interview the applicant" (my friend will be back in a week time, appointment made on that day, has to be there before noon and wait for the consul any time in the afternoon)

At first I agreed but I called them back and cancelled everything: it was simply too much

After so many weeks of seach, wait, expenses (flight has to be bought beforehand, meaning 200 euros charge per person for the cancellation, booking fee lost (as a confirmed reservation has to be presented)

You can tell me anything about how right they are about security I tell you that it was a dreadful experience which ony had the result to let me think that we were going to spend an horendous stay in Israel (if we ever were to be allowed to board the plane, enter the airport, enter the country etc...)

I thought that these measures were taken to prevent attacks but now I can tell you that they are even stopping their friends

The reasons why I decided to cancel are: 1) we are flying to Europe mid June meaning that if the visa were to be refused w<e would not have time to organise ourselves properly 2) As I have already said my friend is quite fragile and I don't want anyone to have a go with questionning our plans

I am not angry I am just disgusted

Paranoia leads them to bar one of their own and their friends

I'll just leave it at it and will find a destination where our money is welcome and where we can plan ahead what we d like to do and above alll ENJOY our vacation

  17. I am a British subject living in Thailand with my Thai wife. She has recently received her first passport in her married name and is currently applying for a visitor's visa to spend a couple of weeks in the UK.

I have friends living in the Canary Islands and would like to show her off to them. I understand she will need the Schengan visa to do so. Can anyone explain the procedures we have to go through in order to obtain such a visa please

I guess you should visit the Spanish Consulate on Wireless (they are helpful)

Being married to a British subject should help the process

Get your friends to write an invitation (mind you a hotel reservation should suffice if you do not want to involve them)

I suppose that you are talking about a Thai passport

  18. Hey

The attestation d'accueil is not difficult to get

Your parents will obtain it by going to the city hall. It takes a few minutes

They write a letter of invitation

But these documents will not be determinant: they are a necessity

They will need to see the applicant is determined to go back to Thailand

I don't understand why you do not want to appear as a guarantor but I guess you have your reasons

if she has all the documents (bank accounts, etc...) then go for the attestation d'accueil (duty stamp will have to be paid for)

Before starting the process enquire with a city hall agent whether an insurance needs to be purchased, before asking for this document (some city halls ask for it)

I hope I have been helpful

    Hey alyx,

    Thanks for the info.

We'll have the letter from her employer to show her return to work date, also we'll provide the return ticket to show we're definitely coming back to Thailand after the holiday.

I don't have any reasons for not wanting to be guarantor, I just didn't think I would be suitable because it's not my house.

Well if she has already got the UK visa it should be ok
