If you are looking at buying a VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat?? then all these cars have an OBD (on board computer) from the year 1991 onwards, have a look on ebay and pick one up for about 1,200 baht. Plug it into the car and check all the faults with the car (engine, gear, abs and airbags) if you find a couple of faults thats ok for a secong hand car. If you find 60 or more simply walk away. I bought a VW 3 months ago (1996 model) and fixed the 7 faulys that i had for a small cost and the car runs great now.

Any more news or links to the story?? What a complete nightmare for them, i hope they fully recover

For 500k - 600k i would buy a VW Passat, should be able to get hold of a 1.9td, 2003 - 2004 model !! Just check the crash tests of Japanese cars before wasting your money on a car without ABS and Airbags. Always European cars for me also check the price for new parts and second hand parts for the car, you will find there isn't a huge difference in price from a Camry to an Audi A6 or a VW passat 2.3

It seems clear that Snowflake has licked the suger coating off Nakhon and is off to a sweeter place
-
The industrial strength unfriendliness of the place.
Once upon a time I thought that was a misnomer, now I know better. Southern Thai's, esp. Khon 'Khon, are not nearly as friendly as other places in LoS. This is, of course, something which is patently denied by Thais from the area. They also claim that Northerns aren't truly friendly at all. Instead, they are insincere masters of deception only looking for money.
Daren, how long have you lived in Nakhon?? how many years did you live in Northern Thailand to be able to make such a comment?? I would like to know?? Also how many Thai friends do you have (Not the Thai beer buddies) ?? Cheers

Think it would be more interesting to write about the cost of living here...
I did make 27500 when I came here long time ago. Back then the petrol was 13.70 pr. liter.
Now I make a little more but the petrol yesterday was 31.59 pr. liter.
Is it me or is the inflation only happening in the expense account?
What is enough to make down here in the South?
The poor slobs I met in Bangkok on the school trip worked for about 35000 a month, in Bangkok. I would have shot myself long time ahead of that.
I do make more than a 1000 B a day now, but I think that in general I spend more than I make every month...
Snokflake, great point you posted!! I have checked the national inflation rates on the CIA website, and Thailand's National inflation rate for 2006 was 4.6 % !! what a complete joke how do they get these figures?? I go shopping at least twice a week to Tesco or Carrefour, and their prices on the goods i buy a lot of have been slowly creeping up!! Milk, eggs, butter, bread etc... its always a small increase each time BUT after a year the prices have gone up by at least 35 % !! I haven't even spoke and the price of petrol which i would say is at least 40 % in the past year.
I know not all products have gone up by the same amount, but when do you ever see a product going down in price?? Never!! Are our salarlies linked to the rate of inflation?? not a <deleted>-king chance they are.
10 days the EU said consumer goods WON'T be included in the inflation rates so that = petrol, Gas, electricity, food, alcohol etc... what does it include then?? could someone please correct me if i'm wrong or shed some light on this!!
Cheers

Took me a while to work it out well my average hourly rate (contact hours) is 413.80 baht
Do your "contact hours" include 'Club' and Home-room? What about teachers meetings and mandatory time on-campus?
A better guage of comparative income would be your total monthly income - then qualify it with what you do to get it. Come on, be honest and forthcoming
1) No mandatory time to be on campus, 5 minutes before class and leave as soon as i finish
2) No clubs
3) No home-room
4) No teachers meetings
5) No exams
6) No homework to mark
7) No parents meetings
8) No school trips to go on
On average i have 30-32 contact hours a week!! So you can work it out.....

What about getting a saturday and sunday job?? Not all day, maybe a few hours in the afternoon?? surely this will kill some of the boredness and will make your nights out or holidays more enjoyable with the extra cash in the bank
Hmmm.... Don't get me wrong, I'm always looking for ways to lose the little free time I already have, but wouldn't getting a Sat & Sun job fairly well exclude nights out and most holiday trips away from NST?
That all depends on where you work ' Daren ' what are your working hours like?? are you tied to the school for the whole day?? can you leave when you're finished your teaching hours for the day??

Just wanted to know which type of petrol will improve the petrol mileage in my car, the car is 10 years old and i would think any petrol could be added?? i don't care about speed and preformance, just want more miles to the gallon. Cheers

didn't it stop at larnaca airport?....my friend was on that plane she saw them putting powder into the food!I paid 23,000 baht with Kuwait AirlinesIn 1988 a Kuwait Airways Boeing was hijacked and diverted to Algiers while on its way to Kuwait from Bangkok. The hijacking lasted 16 days and ended with a Naval Officer from the Kuwaiti Royal Family being killed along with another Kuwaiti military person. The Algerian authorities allowed the hijackers to escape in exchange for the remainder of the 110 people aboard to be set free.
good luck
What's wrong with that?? chili powder into the food, the flight was from Bangkok to Kuwait and they wanted a little spice

Cannot understand why a post requesting such personal information should be posted !!!
Which translated mean Bog off and mind your own business
Why did you bother reading the post and sending a reply if you weren't going to put anything useful towards it?? Also " BOG OFF " please re-translate into English
If you were English, a translation would not be required.
Of course i'm not English!! Thank god....

Goshawk!! why are you adding news from 20 years ago?? has this happened again in those 20 years?? No, didn't think so. I agree Qatar or Eithad are better airlines BUT the OP wanted the cheapest possible ticket
-
Have been on the phone to my brother who has a ticket for the game, and he said the whole of Glasgow is " buzzing" 7 hours to go for the Scoland game, and 10 hours to go to see Russia and Croatia qualify

I paid 23,000 baht with Kuwait Airlines 3 months ago call them direct and give them your rough dates, then ask for the cheapest days. Their prices range depending on the number of seat that are free, more seats the cheaper it is. Also they are a dry airline so no beer on-board

I won't bother since my wife showed me 2 text messages sent from Nok Air to her on Thursday afternoon informing of the change of time live and learn...

If you look at the second hand prices and compare what you get get for your money, then i would take European. I agree that brand new European cars are over-priced, but i don't have to worry about that since i'll never be able to afford one
-
1890 per hour, but not enough time off
Do you fancy swapping jobs?? I don't mind the limited time off
-
Just wondering what you think?? For me i would take a European model any day over a Japanese model. Also why are Japanese cars so over-priced in Thailand??
Fact, nothing or no one beats Japanese build quality or reliability, Mercedes and BMW in particular have had severe problems over the last 10 years for reliability, customer service, 8 out of 10 cars in the biggest reliability survey in UK ar Jap.
On a personal level I have had all the top 4x4 s the most reliable ever were Toyota Landcruiser, Nissan patrol, worst ever Range rover, and yes I know what ones may look the best but reliability VERY POOR.
And I am talking about Jap cars MADE IN JAPAN, not a Honda made in Swindon !
Put another way, the man who has 3 or four luxury cars in his stable is not worried if one is out of action for a month through warrrenty breakdowns.
The man who buys a car/ 4x4 for his everyday living work is !
There is only one breed of vehicles that is far worse for build quality, reliability, and they are made accrosss the pond in the USA ! HAVE A GOOD DAY !
FACT!! Show me
