  1. Vinsat (VTC) has Hbo, Discovery, ESPN, Bbc World,CNN and a few more film channels. I think the picture quality is better than True's. Now my C/S is slowly giving access to K+ , another Vietnamese provider with more foreign channels.

I use the latest Openbox so maybe it is this that gives a better picture quality than True's Samsung box.

At the same time I have a cable Dreambox and with this I can view True`s knowledge package.

I am also using True's box and platinum package on a "gang of 4 basis"

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect App

VINSAT is PPV or FTA.. Longitude ??? Cannot get info from google ..just get JCSAT-13..

    thx

The ones marked F are free to air

  2. We have the gold package (we downgraded) but seem to have masses of hd channels ,is this right?

Yes, 1 month free trial, ends ~ 16th August

Ah, that explains why I have Gold and get all 17 HD channels.

I've noticed that the programming is different to the corresponding SD channels but not the actual content, it's just shown at a different time. e.g. the programme episodes are the same on History and History HD but they're not on simultaneously.

  3. OP: Now would be a good time to move to another house where the landlord actually gives a #$%^. As everyone has mentioned, these 2000 ltr tanks are as necessary as air here in Thailand especially if you have children.

I have been drinking water from the taps and using it for cooking for ages in Bkk or Pattaya. It doesn't come strait from the lake to your taps as someone mentioned here. there are filter systems.

Hopefully the OP has it sorted already seeing as this is a 1 year old thread?

  4. Anyways my reply to PattayaParent was giving the most direct route from Pattaya to Donmuang. Nothing was mentioned on what time of day he travels etc.

And I much appreciate the answers.

I remember though before Swampy opened taxi drivers always preferred the overhead motoway route to Bang Na and then the overhead inner city route to Din Daeng and onto DM, maybe they will still use that route.

  5. Take a trip down Thepprasit Road, there's probably half a dozen along there.

Mates had a very nice kirtchen done by Progress Kitchens but when I enquired there they couldn't do me a decent drawing. They were the cheapest but a couple of others have opened up since too.

Also just near SEAT boats on Theppraya there is/was a place.

  6. I agree True is doing a good job on coverage. I disagree about the best opening ceremony to me I was very disapproved and bored with it. The LA Olympic opening ceremony was so mjuch better. I still think NBC did a excellent job covering the Olympics. But of course they coverage mostly USA events and other big events, but who would want to watch anything else.

I agree with that Brit MP that said it was left wing multicultural claptrap.

  7. This will (should) show the directions being talked about (from Suv to DM).

    edit: or http://maps.google.c...ia=1,2&t=m&z=15

... which has a different u-turn near DM.

That second U-turn I know very well as I used to live on Ramintra but back in the days when you could right turn at Laksi.

Ramintra can be bad for traffic at certain times of the day too, especially near the Laksi end where it narrows and causes bottle necks.

  8. not every1 has a car to drive to Don Muang,

    what about buses?

is it airport bus to swampy then another bus from there to DM?

or regular bus to Morchit or Eckamai then change bus there?

or maybe 1 of them vans to Victory, then a van or bus to DM,

    or what about by train?

any1 done it & know the best way?

Bus to Morchit be your best bet, or taxi all the way.

Edit: wasn't the old DM airport bus service the bus to Morchit which switched airport passengers to a van en route? They would maybe restart that service again.

  9. Drive by yourself only if you are experienced with that. Bangkok-Khon Kaen is very easy, but going from there to Chiang Mai is somewhat challenging.

There are four flights by Thai Airways to Khon Kaen during weekdays and three flights on the weekend. Advance booking is recommended.

Since a while there is a small airline that does flights from Khon Kaen to Chiang Mai:

Somewhat adventurous with small but modern planes.

The only challenge I found was getting teh right road out of Lampang to go to Chiang Mai.

  10. I just heard from a friend who lives in the South Pattaya area. He says the hotel nearby is opening a new gym and it is being fitted out now. It's located in the PRS Hotel. I have never heard of it, nor do i know exactly where or what they gym is like but my friend said that it seems to be going in the right direction, even if it is not fully fitted yet.

Thought I'd just mention it in case anyone wants to google the location and check it out.

They have done a lot of renovating, it's a good gym!

What makes a gym good is very subjective. Could you give us an idea of what equipment they have and how hot/cool it is in there.

Like i said in an earlier post, PRS has some nice equipment and nice cardo machines but there is no AC, I mean none, they have a few fans. I have been going there it is super hot so expect to sweat if you are doing cardio or weight work, I sweat about 200% more here then I did at wow:) but like the equipment

    250 for drop in

    2500 for month

there are year deals as well havent looked into them yet i got a month to see if anything happens to wow

I used to go to PRS many years ago when it was 500 Baht a month but i have seen in passing that they have renovated the place.

Using the facilities early morning when it opens means cooler temperatures.

  11. Do Lloyds TSB still charge 50 Quid a year to have an account or has it gone up?

For their savings accounts no. The current account needs a minimum balance of £2,500 or Euros or $3,500 and it is free or if not £20 per month - so you could say it has gone up.....but realistically for most people it will be free - and free transfers from their end.

    Have a look - http://www.lloydstsb...rrent-accounts/

Odd 'cos when I wanted to transfer my onshore current account to offshore they told me you have to join their "Offshore Club" which then was 50 Quid a year. I declined but I have mates who have this fee..

I had this but that was over 12 years ago. They do not seem to have this anymore (not that I can find on the web site) so if they are still mates you may want to suggest they look into it? smile.png

One of them was changing banks, to RBS I think, the other isn't back here yet but he was looking at Standard Bank IoM after I recommended it and he found a few other friends with accounts there too.

  12. And many on this board will say that thailand is no more dangerous than their home country.

Most people wouldn't be in danger from local drug dealers.

I once walked into a bar in Songkla and had a great time drinking until 3am only to find out from friend's (when I told them where I'd been) that I'd been entertained by the local mafia an onerous bunch of murderers and cut throats.

Sometimes being a tourist is its own shield.

Sent from Android, please excuse errors in type or judgement.

I've done the same in New York!

  13. They're trimming them here in NaJomtien and Ban Amphur also. Those near the power lines. Lots of workers out the past week or so.

Just before rainy season they often severely chop back trees to the trunk. Our estate did it last year and now the foliage is as dense as ever.

  14. It's pretty much always been this way and it always will be. As usual in Thailand, asking why and complaining are useless. Didn't you know? So you just have to be prepared w/ light jacket or at least long-sleeve shirt and undershirt.

Often the sound can be too loud as well, so you also need to carry earplugs. Carrying earplugs at all times here is a good idea, BTW. Surprising how often they come in handy.

A lot of good Thai advice in just a few lines. Bravo!

Earplugs are on me at all times. Indispensable in most massage shops. If blindfolded, you wouldn't know if you were in a massage shop or kindergarten.

I'm guessing from your name you're female as males go to massage shops for services you wouldn't expect in a kindergarten.
