  1. Stiff collars are default for Rajawongse - I have the same problem, but actually it's good because after a few wears it's quite comfortable, kinda like new jeans.

As for "dye" - did u choose the fabric yourself? Did you follow the cleaning directions? If you had a complaint you should've taken it up with them - they will happily fix or replace.

I chose the fabric myself and there were no cleaning directions but as I washed it on a cold wash with all my other shirts and that was the only one that faded, I suspect the inferior fabric is to blame.

  2. Another website some folks like is www.dress-for-success.com I think. It all depends what you like. Just make sure they are not selling polyester and are just a front - no sewing machines in sight? Gotcha! The work is done by sweat shops somewhere...

That is the website of Rajawongse, the "elite" tailors who made me the 1000 baht defective girls' blouse with quickly fading dye and the ultra-stiff collar.

  3. Yeah, browse the old threads. However, my long-time tailor is the famous tailor to the stars, Rajawongse or Raja.

If by 'stars' you mean ageing members of the US Republican Party then that's an accurate description. I bought a 1000 baht shirt based on recommendations for Rajawongse on this forum and others but was disappointed. Like many businesses in Thailand, its popularity seems to have led to a big decline is standards. A good tailor should go through every little detail to make sure he's making you the shirt you want but Victor just took a few measurements and said "slim fit?" I insisted I didn't want slim fit but it came back so slim it looks like a girl's blouse when untucked. I think that might be an 'India cut'. Victor suggested 'just a normal business collar' but what came back was an ultra stiff collar that looks like some comical 1980s throwback. On top of that a couple of the buttons don't quite measure up with the holes and after a few washes the blue stripes are starting to fade. None of this is surprising as the shirts are obviously made in the same sweat shops as those of all the other Sukhumvit tailors but at least in other places they might listen to what you ask for and agree a lower price.

  4. Amazing that it happens once and you post about rudeness of Thai's? Farangs in Auckland (popln 1milln/total NZ 4mlln) yell such things like that often, and yes, they do know what it means, but have limited vocabs. Some friends and I were saying that it's best not to look at anyone in some public places, in case they take offence! So it's not just my perception. Reports of attacks on tourists seem frequent too.

I think you havevtotally misunderstood what the OP is saying. :)

Which is what exactly? The title talks about rudeness by Thais but the story is about one Thai kid. A better title would have been "Lots of friendliness by Thais and then a dissing from a cheeky little scamp."

  5. I thinks Arrow shirts are quite naff, particularly the pointless Arrow label on the back, but at 600 baht each they were difficult to beat for value. I last saw them at that price in Paragon around the time of New Year 2009. Has anyone seen them at this price anywhere recently? I'm talking genuine only, not the crap on sale in markets.

  6. I'm currently on a double entry tourist visa which I can extend for the last time in a few days. I want to change to a non-immigrant B as I have employment in Thailand. The HR department suggested I could change my visa from tourist to non-b but when she looked and saw the tourist visa expired in a few days said there wasn't enough time. I tried in vain to tell her the tourist visa could be extended. She's now preparing the documents to send me off to Laos. Is there any reason why I shouldn't extend the tourist visa and apply for a change in visa status to non-b?

  7. As for the prickly heat powder, I wouldn't put menthol anywhere near my scrotum and the talc is unhealthy too. Corn starch powder is cheaper and healthier.

Each to his own. You carry on using your pancake powder old chap, I'll carry on using the one that I've been with for 20 years because: 1. it's well reccommended, 2. my nutsack is very healthy thankyou and 3. I can afford it. :)

Being well recommended in Thailand is no recommendation at all:

  8. I certainly wouldn't recommend wet shaving but trimming with the Remington BHT every few days and using the shaver head for "special occasions" is simple to try. As for the prickly heat powder, I wouldn't put menthol anywhere near my scrotum and the talc is unhealthy too. Corn starch powder is cheaper and healthier.

  9. I once had this condition and was given a wide range of creams, none of which worked. Eventually a Muslim doctor recommended I keep the area shaved and that solved the problem immediately. I recommend the Remington Body Hair Trimmer, available in Carrefour. You might also want to apply some corn or tapioca starch powder.

  10. I'm looking for a medicine which I know is available in Thailand but it's not in any of the pharmacies (Boots, Fascino etc) and none of them are prepared to order it for me. I've found that even the big pharmacies that people recommend tend to be very understocked when it comes to "unusual" medicines. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good pharmacy which stocks "unusual" medicines. Perhaps the Bumrungrad pharmacy would have it but no doubt at rip-off prices. How about the pharmacies at government hospitals? Can you just walk in and buy your medicine? Any recommendations?

  11. The policy of the Thai hospitals would be even stricter than the policy of your own country. They have very limited resources and only treat people who have something obviously wrong with them. Do you really think you can come to a third world country and expect doctors to put a camera up your bum just for your own peace of mind whilst people with serious conditions are waiting for treatment?

  12. I take that as a 'no'! The queue jumpers were a total nuisance at the old place. I started queuing about an hour before the place opened so got near the front of the queue but a crowd of mostly Filipinos decided they were above queuing and just jumped in when the gates opened. Can someone give us a bit of information about how the new system changes this. The old advice used to be to get there early but would it be better just to arrive at 1030 and take your ticket? Is there a queue outside the building to get into the building to take your ticket?

  13. This is getting so out of hand, it almost feels like a war. These people have to be stopped before someone is seriously injured or killed.

What if you have to seriously injure them or kill them to stop them?

Given events of the past 2 years no one can claim the army HQ is not a legitimate target. Buses are a different matter of course.

  14. Thaksin is allowed back but his charges are dropped or reduced

Thaksin is banned from politics still

Thaksin's frozen money is partially refunded to him and the rest is used to pay for damages that the reds have caused

Fresh elections are planned but with outside observers(perhaps from the UN?) to ensure no vote buying. Before elections are held both sides have to sit down and agree to accept whatever the outcome of the election is.

    Would this work????

Yeah that'll fix it. Nice 1.
