I'm sorry but I have no idea what that means.

I remember the olden days before Uber and Grab when you could phone a number and a taxi would turn up a few minutes later. It only cost 20 baht. Is that service still available and if so what's the number? When Grab is giving you the "high demand" message at 10:00 a.m. on a Sunday and doubling the fare, you know it's become a rip-off.

I wish I'd gone to this one instead of wasting half an hour trying to find the one in Emquartier.
-
Good tip. The one in Emquartier was hard to find - need to go to "the C building" fourth floor and it's a kiosk hidden away in a corner - but efficient. Just a bit more expensive than I thought it would be at 1390 to send a document to the UK.

I'm moving in to a condo with a firm mattress typical in Thai condos. It's a high-quality mattress but too firm for my needs. What kind of topper do I need to make it nice and soft? I was thinking memory foam but then I read these make mattresses firmer so now I'm confused. I realise some people extol the virtues of firm mattresses but trust me, I need a soft one.

I see on Google maps what looks like unstaffed service points for DHL. I want to just take my document to a DHL office, give them the address, pay the money and leave. Is that possible? How about the head office at Chamchuri Square?

Face masks still mandatory on public transport, cinemas in Thailand
edwardandtubs replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
No one is freaking out anymore. I rode a jam-packed MRT and BTS last week without a mask and no-one cared. The new normal is just do whatever you're comfortable with and don't fret about what other people do or what other people think of you. -

It's obvious that Dr Aekkachai has either been mistranslated or misunderstands the law. There is definitely no mask mandate and nothing a minor bureaucrat says is going to change that. -
According to the immigration website, you need 15 days visa validity to convert a TR to a non-b visa. However, this doesn't make much sense to me as last time I did it the non-b was stamped on the same day as I made the application, so why the need for 15 days? And I'm informed that as long as you're not on overstay, your application will be accepted. So if I turned up to immigration with all my documents in order with 3 days left on my visa, would they accept it or would I need to get the TR visa extended by 30 days and then make the application? That would seem completely nonsensical if the non-b was going to be granted on the same day anyway.

It's now 1650 on the Friday before a bank holiday weekend so I doubt whacking it in quick will have any effect. Anyway, I haven't booked my air ticket yet. Not everyone likes booking everything weeks in advance. You'd have thought as they're trying to attract tourists they would make things a bit easier. Anyway, thanks. As I'm British and in Britain now I think I should get my visa within four working days.

Are airlines currently strict about hand luggage?
edwardandtubs replied to edwardandtubs's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
It wasn't an issue but having said that it wasn't full. I think it's a common sense issue really. If it looks like hand baggage, there's unlikely to be a problem. -

It would take a lot more than £50 to replace my clothes but you make fair point. How much value do you place on your own used clothes? I'd rather start dumping a few old shirts to make the backpack smaller than pay the £200 or so to check it all in. -

Great. So you send me the £186.93 it costs to upgrade online to an extra checked in bag. Job done. -

Yes. Just 1 bag of 23 kg can be checked in. 1 bag of 8 kg for hand luggage. They don't actually point out the dimensions of the hand luggage unless you search the website though, which makes me think that right now it's probably not that important to them.
