  1. So would a payment be due 'urgently' as in HAS to be paid today, Sunday for a course due soon?

Sorry for my ignorance in these matters :o

    All schools closed on Sundays.

Admin staff should be at school Mondays to Fridays but as you say, Songkran is here.

I think it will be OK to pay it after the hols.

    Good luck.

Happy New Year./Sawat dee pee mai na krub.

  2. This thread has had almost 20,000 views as I'm writing this, and I think most of the people viewing it are hoping for useful information. BBBKK and others have posted pages of interesting and informative comments and pictures. Rickster has posted about 15 posts criticizing everybody.

I met Tony for the first time this last week in BKK, and he is not a "Boy Racer", nor does he have is head up his @$ as someone so eloquently put it. He is however a genuinely nice guy who took several hours of his day to show me around bike shops in the Big Mango, through heavy traffic. I think that half the people on this thread know him personally, and would say that Tony is a very knowledgeable, and yet still very humble, a hard combo to find.

Thanks again Tony for all the help on Thursday; I really appreciate it. Hope I get to ride with you in the future.

Now, seeing as this is the ER6n thread, I'll write something about the bike. I talked to the Givi dealer here in Chiang Mai yesterday, and he said that GIVI Malaysia has now ordered the windscreens and luggage boxes that are available in the European markets. They should become available to the Thai market sometime in the next few weeks.

    givisetup.jpggiviwindscreen.jpggiviboxes.jpg

Bad news is the price. The price of the windscreen is not yet determined, but he told me that the luggage set, if you purchase everything in the picture above, will run you more than 40,000 baht. I bought my last set of GIVI luggage for about 10,000 baht, so I'm not sure what is so special about this set. They are just plastic boxes after all.

    40 000 Baht???????

    Yer joking?

    WOW!

I will use Big C carrier bags instead hehehe.

  3. Hi all,

I am packing up and about to head over. I mainly teach Biz Eng, but am also hoping to help out thru the Embassy to do volunteer work up country with young kids etc. Is it necessary to bring over lots of materials, flash cards etc? I know that the Language schools should have enough materials & course books for BE level, but is it necessary to bring stuff overall? Happy to pay for unaccompanied luggage rates, but don't want to bring too much if not needed. e.g. Ship or Sheep tapes etc etc etc. I'm thinking if a did private tutor work that the more materials the better, so your comments would be much appreciated.

    Cheers! :o

Bring as much as you can considering what and where you will teach. OK.

  4. Hi, and welcome.

    1. No suit jacket. White shirt and tie, dark trousers, black leather shoes.

    2. Blonde streaks on an Asian male's head would look too non-conservative to most interviewers.

    3. If you are too concerned about holidays, .....

    4. April and first week of May

    5. No

    Good luck

    Enough said.

  5. I think that for a lot of people, top end performance matters less than just the fun of customizing your bike. I mean really, unless you're on the track, who the hel_l cares? In the curves on some back road it comes down much more to riding skill than what the bike is capable of. And someone's stock bike might run a little better than mine but I love the attention when I pull up in front a club somewhere. I'm just vain like that.

Where can you get one of those gold chains please?

    WOW!

  6. And after one day riding the ER-6n, my first impressions.

I went out and put about 3 hours in on the windy mountain roads of the Samoeng Loop near Chiang Mai. It is a fun bike to ride, with 2 exceptions. First, I gotta get a windscreen. I feel like my shirt is gonna get ripped off and my backpack straps are beating bruises into my ribs. I've had a windscreen on my bike for so long I forgot how crappy it is not to have one. Second, the seat is awful. It's so slanted forward that I feel like I'm riding down a steep hill everywhere I go. I'm used to long rides but the seat left me pretty sore after.

The seat is an easy fix; I'll take it into a custom shop and reshape it this week. The windscreen is a little harder. Tony, I saw the Givi and Puak (sp?) windscreen pics you posted a little while back. Who can you order through? I can't find anyplace that sells them. There so ugly I might be better off just getting a custom job made though.

On a side note, while riding the loop yesterday, I had been tearing it up for about an hour down a particulary fun strech of windy downhill road. I was moving at a pretty good clip, focusing on my cornering, and feeling pretty confident, when this little dude on a Honda Dream passed me! He didn't just pass me, he dusted me. He was laying the Dream so far over in the turns that he was dragging the foot pegs, and damned if I couldn't keep up with him! I couldn't decide if it was funny or embarrassing; both I guess.

    EDIT: Puig winscreen, sorry.

    Brand New er6n = 225,000 thb

On road costs = 1,650 thb

    Insurance: = 7,304 thb

New riding jacket = 8,000 thb

    New Helmet = 35,000 thb

Getting blown off by a 15 year old on his 10 year old honda dream with smooth tyres & blocked carby = PRICELESS :o

    Haha, nice one Neverdie.

Do you work for Mastercard? hehe

    Congrats on yer bike man.

Let the good times roll! :o

  8. And now the Lofts Southshore will not be built!

Feel sorry for the people who down deposits.

any source of that or just a rumor ?

My opinion, in this reccession we are in right now.

Together with no activity on site for a long long time. (They have put big white curtains over the entrance to the site).

No activity in the fact that I ride past there many times everyday.

    What do you think fox2night?

    Heard anything?

    Regards

Well, perhaps its the sub levels being piled etc and hence why you can seen anywork above ground?

no nothing at all. Very strange eh?

  9. Sounds like Northpoint would comply with your test and more!

Northpoint is turning out nicely- a friend of mine lives in Sky Beach next door and overlooks the building site. The buildings themselves are very pretty. Hope they have the capital to complete the project.

I don't think so. Lots of supplying companies going boom in this economic climate.

Again feel really sorry for the people who put deposits down.

I've even heard of people walking away from their deposits on condos and just taking the loss.

I think it's more than what we are led to believe.

    Time will tell.

It'd be a shame if Northpoint was halted given how far along the buildings are.

Not sure that many people are abandoning their deposits- before that were to happen I'd expect to see ads going up with folks looking to sell their unit, discounted by part of the deposit they've already paid. After all, if one has 30% put into a 10m unit then it'd be worth trying to sell it for more than 7m before walking away.

i think the problem is that nothing is selling so if you were to try and sell for 7M, you couldnt.

All these projects that are being built now will be lucky to complete given the state of the world wide economy.

Its one thing constructing a condo, then the developer has to furnish every single unit within. Thats one mighty ask given that they have probably spent the money taken on deposits completing construction. They have probably run dry of cash due to the lack of orders for units now.

As I say, time will tell. The big wheel turns as they say.

    Regards

  12. People were tired of the propaganda that ole Nige was writing in the BKK Post ? :D

Dunno, but I know that Raimon have downsized their marketing dept. and several expats have been made redundant.. Maybe they are running short of cash ? Afterall they must have spent a fortune advetising their projects in Pattaya alone.. I belive they said recently that they had done well with 'the river' but other projects were slow to move...

Lets face it their prices were way up there... even without the strong baht..Guess they over-estimated the market for 'high end' condos in Pattaya. :o

    Correct Pdaz.

    Work comes firstI'm afraid.

    Weekend coming hehe
