  1. A drunk police officer hitting another car and killing a member of the public by shooting him!!

And his colleagues trying to cover his sorry backside!!

Another proud day for the Thai "police" !!

Seems that the BIB have learned their lessons well from their 'merican donut munching counterparts...

Wonder when the 'mericans will finally start prosecuting some of their trigger happy militant cops.

  2. Khun Mac

    Veeravit Vongkwo

Not the cheapest.. Great comms, full 3D CAD design work... Been responsible for really high end home design.. From memory one villa was a couple of mil USD build.

Mac did a good job for me some 7 years ago. Hired him independently from the Brit builders he was working with which was a very good decision.

  3. Presumably letting you know when people are near means barking? Otherwise known as annoying your neighbours.

Your comment shows that you haven't learned to appreciate a well trained and intelligent dog.

We have a TRB who is also the most wonderful dog I have ever been around.

  4. I lived and worked in Hong Kong and China years ago. I like the Chinese, but it does take some getting used to the cultural differences. Every year for a long time I spent my birthday at the White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou.

One interesting experience I had was when I went with a tour group from HK to Beijing for 7 nights and 8 days. A friend agreed to translate for me, since the tour leader spoke Cantonese. In China, however, we were escorted by our official Chinese gov't provided guide, who did all the speaking. She only spoke Mandarin and the HK people only spoke Cantonese, so the whole tour ended up in English!! China was VERY poor at the time. It was not long after the Tiananmen Square protests (which our nice guide said never happened and nobody was killed or injured). In spite of the poverty, it was quite a safe place.

The whole thing cost $300 and included a hotel room (nice hotel), all meals, all transportation and admission to all sites. But you haven't really lived until you have been a part of a Chinese tour group. We ate together, we slept together, we went to the toilet together, we shopped together. We burped and farted together. It was a complete loss of individual identity.

We even went to a fancy nightclub with Western Music together (yes they did have a few, but only the sons, daughters and members of the ruling party could go -- One of Deng Xiaoping's daughters was there that night. Of course, we all sat together.

By the last day, I just couldn't take a moment more of this intimate, almost jail-like situation. The group was to go to the Tombs of some of the ancient leaders of China. I said I would go back to Tianammen Square and the Forbidden City. I actually planned a little bit more nefarious activities, but I could not take being with the group for another minute. I told them I would meet them at the train station under the clock tower for the trip back at 7:00 p.m. They resisted and being Chinese decided they would all change their plans and accompany me! I said no, I wanted to be on my own. They insisted, canceled the tour and we all went together, but I bolted and lost them and had a nice afternoon meeting some of the local people (up until then we had not spoken to one local person).

I made it back to the train station and waited for the group, but much to my amazement there were actually two clock towers. I decided that being the only person for miles who didn't have black hair, they would probably find me. There were thousands of people at the train station and they viewed me with a quizzical suspiciousness. I sat down and eventually one of them came closer and with a tentative movement offered me a hand rolled cigarette. I took it, then motioned for a lighter. At least a hundred people started laughing and giggling and moved close and started trying to talk to me -- mostly with sign language. It was a delightful 20 minutes or so. I was then rescued by my tour group who were pretty sure that they had saved me from a fate worse than death.

So, if you don't like Chinese tour groups, just remember, it could be worse. You could be one of them!

Staying at the White Swan was really roughing it wasn't it?

  5. For sure if you get a bike in that price range...make sure it has combined braking!

Sawing back on the rear brake and then modulating the front makes for quick safe stops.

And if you buy used, replace the rear brakes quick like especially if they're drum. For some reason every time I jump on a local's bike with rear drum they are wore all the way down. Even me adjusting it for them (which they always thank me for) shows just how wore they are.

Yeah, what's with the rear brake thing? I let my wife's sister borrow my Wave for a couple months so she could use it to get to work. She took good care of it for the most part, but when I got it back I noticed the rear brake was a lot more worn and I needed to adjust it. It was like she didn't use the front brake at all.

The rear brake pedal makes a nice resting place for the right toes... ever notice how many bikes running round with their brake lights on whilst driving down the road?

  6. It's possible the dog has a fungal infection. Seems that most vets go looking for mites etc and never think of checking something simple like this - maybe not so much money to be made from the treatment? I shampooed my dog's feet with dandruff shampoo or selenium sulfide shampoo (from the drug store) and rinsed well. After a couple of treatments got rid of the fungus and she's only doing a short cleaning now.

  7. The big hearted loved one pictured as my avatar had exactly the same thing... within a week he was back to being himself after starting the treatment! Yes, we kept him on the meds for the complete course and he's just doing great now.

    Have faith!

thanks fredge at the moment he is very well, since being on meds.he is like his dad, eating well and drinking plenty[water] not cider.

starts the second course this evening.

Good to hear that your friend is improving and may he soon be back to full health.

A friend who has had several dogs and continually fights "tick" bites has said that there is a chemical which can be applied to dogs and is also present on a special dog collar.

Also he does a daily inspection on the dog and applies a liquid to any ticks he finds, which kills them.

Our three have 5 rai of their 'own' to roam... they will pick up ticks if we don't give them the liquid drops to be absorbed through their skin every 3 months or so. I say "or so" as we watch for any ticks hitching a ride and meal... when we start seeing them then we give the dogs the treatment.

There are also tablets which will clear a tick infestation that take a week or so to really be effective. We give those to the soi dogs we see with a tick infestation. Give by crushing the tablets and adding to some nice food.

  8. Considered, yes. Found a M to M adapter at any of the places here, no.

I just bought a 3m hose and a new screw-on connector for my water tap. Now there are all sorts of places it can fail and leak instead of just a single, solid connection of a standard hose connector, that exists on all the 2m hoses.

I don't understand what this difficult to install, leakage prone connector with the quick disconnect is even there. It only connects to another wash machine hose.

Is it for people wealthy enough to own multiple washing machines, who enjoy connecting and disconnecting hoses between loads to switch from their LG inverter to their Electrolux ultra-smooth drum model, yet too poor or stupid to add a T fitting or Y connector to the line?

Just turn off the faucet/tap when you are not using the washing machine. Precludes any flooding when the burst hose you fear when the machine isn't in use.

Yes, you will have to turn it on each time you go to use the washing machine but that's not all of a great challenge...

Hope these can help. To the best of my knowledge (TBK) they all deliver across Thailand.

Apple cider vinegar shouldn't be too hard to find - the big chains offer it, normally.

Cheers, the second and third sites in your link seem the most reasonably priced.

I have seen both flax seed and apple cider vinegar at Villa Market on Sukhumvit Road near Soi 33. So, next time you're in Bangkok, you might look there for these items.

I'm never in Bangkok, may be worth a visit to Chiang Mai if they have a Villa Market. Thanks

Noticed flax seed and lots of cider vinegar recently in Yok, Chiang Mai.

  10. From my observations, Thai builders have no thoughts about ventilating attic spaces. Adding screened openings under the eaves (soffit area) can help a lot if you don't want to go to the expense of insulating or installing roof vents. At least then you will get some cross ventilation of the attic space.

Insulation is great but will not help much if you don't get some air exchange going in the attic.

  11. OP doesn't say his location. Bought 10 kg bag of seed a few months ago from a seed outfit near Chiang Mai. Before they sold in smaller quantities but seem to have opted to multiples of 10 kg now. 60 Baht/kg with good viability.
