Sorry, I forgot that so many of you guys consider anything over a 5 baht satay on a stick as "fine dining".

I forgot to add a couple of points. I am a BIG eater, and my wife always takes home an additional 2-3 entres for a later meal. So, we really order for the equivalent of 4 people. :-) Our last meal there actually cost me 480 baht, with some take home. (Glad I didn't even mention the outsanding Saturday night seafood buffet at the Montien Hotel!)

I'm sorry you feel the need to talk down at people.

But you said Thai food at Thai prices.

    500baht a head!!!!!!!!!!

    Don't think so.

What sort of income would you need to do that for two every day?

  3. It's the Chinese Goldshop Syndrome

Take a look at many areas of Bangkok and in the Shopping Malls

    Someone opens a goldshop

Hey that's a good idea let's open a goldshop next door

Hey look there are a couple of goldshops on this street business must be good - let's open a goldshop

    So it goes on

    Let's open a shopping mall

Hey there is a shopping Mall - must be lot's of business let's open a shopping Mall next door.

SOmeone asked in another thread why there are no Watson's Boots etc in Jomtien

Cause these companies do their market research first - you got to have a customer base to open a store. Big store - big customer base - simple geography 101 & economics 101

Trouble with the Thais - they skipped 101 class

And where does the 7-eleven franchise model fit into your tainted and challenged hypothesis?

7/11 - completely different type of retail outlet. The catchment area for a 7/11 can be measured in terms of a few hundred yards. The same as the original mom and pop stores that survived on almost every street corner.

Specialist stores like a Boots Pharmacy or a supermarket will measure their potential catchment area in kilometers. Hence you don't see a Tesco opening another Tesco within a few kilometers of another Tesco store. However you may see the likes of Carrfour attempting to do this to take market share away from say a Tesco as you see for example on Rama IV in Bangkok.

It's not my tainted or challenged theory just a few simple principles picked up in a Geography 101 class at university.

My comments about Thais not understanding this does come from experience of teaching Geography in Thai Universities. Quite simply Thai students don't have a clue.

Example: Geography GCSE paper question one.

The student is given a map of Australia with population density marked in different shades and a key. The student is asked to mark the boxes to show the different desities 1-50 per sq km, 50-100 per sq km, 100+ per sq km

After 30 minutes the student has not put pen to paper. I asked him why?

This question is stupid teacher (The question not the teacher)

    Why?

Because I don't know where Australia is

Another student jumps up and announces proudly that she knows where Australia is.

    Australia is next to Germany!!!!!!!

    :o

  4. There are two restaurants that I'd like to recommend to those of you who like Thai food, at Thai prices. One is here in Pattaya. The other is along the shore in Jomtien.

    FIRST:

We have found a remarkable Thai restaurant that is only a few hundred feet off of Sukhumvit Road, yet seems secluded once you're inside.

It's called "Som Poi", but the name is in Thai only, so, unless you have a Thai partner, don't look for the name.

Most importantly, the food is very good. The prices are "Thai". Two people can eat a full meal, including a couple of beers, for less than 1000 baht.

The seating surrounds a pond. There is (unfortunately) some Thai karaoke. But it's not as bad as some places. The seating is varied. On one side of the pond, there's Japanese style bench seating, where you remove your shoes, slide in, and put your feet into a clean "pit" under the table. On the next side, it's large tables with bench seating. On the third side, it's round tables with chairs. Lots of greenery everywhere. Once in there, it really feels like you're miles from the city, rather than just a few hundred feet from Sukhumvit.

DIRECTIONS: Sukhumvit, going north from Pattaya Tai. Turn left on Soi 46, directly opposite the Family Mart on the east side of Sukhumvit. (Careful. There's a 46/3, 46/2, and 46/1, before you get to 46.) Once into Soi 46, take an immediate right. The entrance to the restaurant will be on your left, just a few yards into that small road.

    NEXT:

    Thai seafood restaurant.

It's called Ton Hat. It's another restaurant that doesn't cater to many Falang, so there are no English language signs to help you. But it serves excellent fresh seafood, at "Thai" prices.

It's right on the shore, and has both outdoor and indoor seating. The indoor seating is a relatively small, glass enclosed room, which is air conditioned, or has the option of open windows, depending upon the weather.

DIRECTIONS: Sukhumvit going south. Pass Alangkarn, then make a U-turn. Coming back, just past Alankarn, you'll turn left on a road that has a large sign - but in Thai - with the name of the restaurant on it. Just follow the road to the end, turn right, and you'll find the restaurant on your left. There's covered parking directly opposite. If you pass it, you'll know. The road ends shortly after the restaurant.

    And thats cheap!!!!!!

  5. So, what is the next, we can wait to happen in this case? It looks, like they don t mahe house now, more than 14m hight, anyway steels have been cut about in that levell, i think!

Is in Rayong Court some hearing end of this month??

    Someone , who knows something?

Well they have cut the re-bar to 14 meters and applied what looks to be a coat of protectective weatherproof paint to the steel

Rear floors to be completed yet.

So right now VT7 stands as a basement car park, Lobby and shops floor, and two stories of condo units

Looks like they are preparing for a loooong wait.

On another different but related subject.

The Regatta was due to start construction this month. I know that the threads about The Regatta and Indochine Assets were deleted so I am not asking any sensitive questions here. Just wondering if the developers of The Regatta are going to throw money into the ground for a 20 meter+ condo while VT7 is still waiting for a final ruling.

If they didn't start is this from choice? or from a blockade from the condo behind?

Pls. no comments about Indochine not re-imbersing previous clients - don't want this thread deleted also.

So its not over? thought it was a done deal 14m end of!!!!!

  6. yes but, Norway is so boring :D
Now that is place ive never fancied,.im told the women are very cold ! :D (i went out with a girl from there, she had a face like a norse :D

The ladies are hot, and good looking,

  7. My friend is thinking of setting up an office or shop in Pattaya.

Can any of you help me out and tell me

    1) what the average wage is for administrative personnel and for people who work in an internet cafe?

It could be a new idea this internet cafe. not to many in town. :o

  8. Texas toast is standard length and width of white bread, with a similar crust, but about 5 times the thickness, lightly toasted and buttered on one side. Cut diagonally, served two half pieces on the plate (maybe just half a piece; my partner always gives me his). Maybe somebody can post a photo.

    Thanks for telling me.

    Humphrey Bear

You mean that it's called Texas Toast because it's extra thick? Figures.

Well i thought it was funny

  9. I was born " up north" where you got real fish and chips, and Hollands pies& puddings. I find it hard to believe you left blighty far behind, to live in Thailand, for one reason or another and your desperate for f&c, just to remind you this LOS, not Doncaster,or Accrington!

Seriously though, please remember your in Asia by your own choice, try to keep it Asian, try eating the local produce? Thai food is great!

Fish and chips fried in Lard. (nasty stuff)
